As I've said a few times, tear this thing down and start from scratch. We finished dead last in the MAC East with all of these guys who are on their way out. My big question is where in the hell does Cowart think he can actually go to play at another D-One school?

Two weeks left in signing period. I can't imagine that Coach Boals and staff will be getting much sleep between now and then.

He received about 17 Div I offers. I'd think at least a couple of those might still be interested. He played excellent defense for us, I hate to see him leave.

OK there's something here that is a bit perplexing to me. I don't like it, but I get it that someone like Jason Carter would leave because he is going to a university that is in a power conference. However, there seems to be more than a few players that are exploring their options, when unlike Jason they really have no options at this point. Someone earlier commented in another post that some of the players appeared to be slouching and not all that interested during he press conference announcing the hiring of Caoch Boals. I didn't see it so I can honestly say. However, whether you like what you have heard beforehand or not, you better act like you are interested when the new guy in charge shows up. Reminds of the story when Lou Holtz got the job at Notre Dame and he told those slouching players they had two options act and work like you want to be here or leave.

Yet everything we hear points to the fact that Coach Boals knows what he is doing. Perhaps the best confirmation came in the interview with channel 4 in Columbus. The channel 4 interviewer Jerrod Smally (a Marshall grad,) said Coach Boals was his favorite assistant in the Thad Matta era, because of his hard work, honesty and knowledge of the game.

I thought his contributions declined dramatically in the final third of the season. Narrow range of skills.

Cowart was solid, I wish he would have stayed. Boals should probably take some grad transfers to hold down the fort and use most of the scholarships on a higher talent pool next year.

I wasn’t “happy” with our results this season but it’s absurd to suggest the team lacked any talent whatsoever. Winning 14 games in D-1 isn’t nothing and at times they were competitive with some pretty good programs. I’m sure the guys transferring will have options at the D-1 level. There are a lot of teams who won less games than we did.

It does speak to the potential and expectations of this program that a slightly below 500 season is considered disasterous. At many other MAC programs, that’s a regular occurrence every so often. Doesn’t happen often in Athens

Hard to believe he’s going to stay division 1. Dude disappeared and looked like he was afraid to shoot the ball. Those saying he was solid, what did he do? I remember exactly zero times Cowart doing anything positive. He wasn’t bad... he just didn’t do anything

Cowart was awful. Indicative of Saul era. No impact whatsoever. Have a nice career Antonio who is Rodney Culver Lite

Cowart was, predominantly, a starter for OHIO last season. How many minutes per game would you guess he’d have averaged for Buffalo this past year? I’m confident in my answer, but tell me yours.

I agree. I remember Saul often praised his defense. His offense, not so much.

I’m sorry, let me repeat the question—-how many minutes per game do you think Mr. Cowart would contribute to a MAC Championship team? And remember, he started for us.

Some of you guys didnt watch his defense. He was very good. His offense definitely was lacking.

I heard or read somewhere mid-season that Cowart was our "defensive specialist" and it just grew from there (all this coming from a few in SE Ohio). But I never saw it and wondered how he earned that reputation. Additionally, he was not a threat from mid-range or from 3 (although he was probably our best 3-pt. shooting guard).

Doubt he'll be missed.

Jeff, how much per hour for you to teach me how to watch the game? Guess I need to boost my BBIQ.

Feel free, like I said, I’m sure Coach Boals will be looking you up. Take it as a compliment as I admire your talent evaluation.

Dambrot and I are starting a consulting firm to teach how to watch the game, if you dont mind making the trip to Pittsburgh. Will have it on Skype eventually.

Sign me up. BTC says I need to learn a lot more about the Xs and Os, and I'm sure he'd give such high-powered consultants his imprimatur!

Well, my lack of Xs and Os savvy is only slightly better in basketball. I do still play the game a few times a week. My assist to turnover ratio is on par with TK's, but I don't score nearly as often! ;-)

They make pills for that. Sorry old friend, sometimes you just lob beach balls to the plate, bout like the Reds Bullpen. 😎

Huh....finishing below .500 has happened in three of the last five seasons in Athens. Your definition of regular occurrence is far different from mine.
