I think at this point it could be hard to bring in enough talent for this year to win even 10 games. I just hope that isn't a further detriment for the future.
But what did you expect to happen this offseason and in Boals first year as coach? Next year is not going to be pretty in the win column. However, by the end of Boals second full recruiting class we are going to see a roster full of Division-One talent...something that has been lacking in this program for five years. Boals is cleaning up a huge mess and this is going to take two years for him to get his players to fit his system. As I've said before, we can't really judge Boals until year 3. He is facing one of the most difficult rebuilding jobs in Division-One hoops.
Exactly, and yet we had more than a few people who were for staying the course which would akin to the crew of the Titanic saying, "nothing but a few icebergs ahead." We heard stories about how every player and their parents loved the previous coaching staff. I have no doubt that this is true and we might all say that Coach Phillips was a nicer guy than Coach Christian and even Coach Nee. However, sometimes leaders aren't always nice. I have heard stories that the staff at 10 Downing Street thought Neville Chamberlain was nicer than Winston Churchill. In a perfect world all successful leaders would be nice, but we live in a fallen world and perfection awaits us in heaven.
Again, as I stated before I was heckuva lot nicer to my players when I was coaching than my coaches were to me. However, sometimes you have to raise your voice and show displeasure. You might have to tell players that they are not measuring up. I can't begin to tell you the feeling you get when you don't think you can accomplish something and a coach helps you believe you can (although not always in the nicest way.) Human nature being what it is, far too many people want to coast in life. Hopefully, those players who want to put their talents and abilities on cruise control are getting the message that those days are in the past.
