My wife has both her undergrad and graduate degree from Lehigh - Neither in engineering. She had no issue with the name change, nor did most of her college friends - guess it matters who you know and what your major was. Ohio Communicators. I'd be goods with that - but then it really wouldn't convey what the university offers and is about to so many students.
I guess it comes down to when you went there.
You said your wife went to Lehigh.
Until 1971-1972 Lehigh was all male.
I graduated high school around that time, and Lehigh was one of the schools I applied to.
I remember going there for a visit. All the buzz was about the school going co-ed.
There seemed to be both excitement and dread on the part of the students.
My dad, and the people he went to school with, did not share in the "excitement".
My dad and his friends got over their objections to the school going co-ed.
The mascot change.
He still refers to the teams as the engineers.
I guess Purdue will be next.
