That link classifies "small colleges" as NCAA D-II-III NAIA. Ohio wouldn't be included.
Another miss from Alan. Is that miss #999 or did he reach 1,000?

I think what confused Alan was that Akron, as I recall. was in Div-2 before they joined the MAC. Ohio never was in that division.

Nothing confused me Carl. Watch and listen to the Earl the Pearl video all the way through. At the end, it clearly says the "small college" hall of fame. I listened to these games on the radio on WAKR, 15990, in Akron back int the 60s when Akron was very good and it was referred to as the small college tournament. Akron had a player by the name of Don Williams who was the original Antio Gates. He played basketball at Akron and was drafted by the Browns.

Yes, Alan, you were confused. You said earlier in this thread: "They were a power in the early 60s when both OU and Akron were competing for small college championships in football and basketball respectfully." Ohio was never D2 in basketball. As I recall Akron was. You were wrong. Be man enough to admit it. Back in the early 1960s OHIO was playing schedules like these in 1962-63:

A rather mediocre year but included a victory on the road against Iowa and both a home and road game with top-5 Loyola of Chicago. Hardly "small college" basketball. BTW, Akron looked like a D2 team tonight.

OK, I see what you were trying to say. The word "both" in the quote above makes the word "respectfully" in context meaningless. If you had edited "both" out then you would have been clearly stating that OHIO in 1960 was playing for a non-top division crown in football and Akron was a competing as a "small college" in basketball. So, with that edit, you are technically correct, though OHIO was elevated to the "university" level in 1961.

Akron moved to Division 1 in 1980.
