What's the over/under on those who pick a team to win, but with eyes closed and nose plugged?

And if it's pulling for Akron, is it because you'd be genuinely happy for Groce or because it's just anyone other than Miami?

When OU is out I root for the team I think can win an NCAA game and that is 110% Akron.

Miami is not built to win NCAA games (yet).

Also Groce is a good dude so easy to root for him.

All of this plus I grew up in Akron and played lots of pick-up games in the old Memorial Hall much like so many folks used to do in Grover.

Apparently, you haven't looked at UA's all-time NCAA record. Hint: It's not good.

I'm actually pulling for Miami just so we don't have to have the conversation on here about how great John Groce is. And it's better for the league if the Redhawks pull it off.

Got to go with Miami on this one. Akron may be the stronger team but Miami making the Big Dance will bring back some much needed spice to the rivalry—whereas win or lose the rivalry with Akron is already pretty strong.

Miami is getting better, has a good NIL going for it, building a new arena and maybe winning a MACC. Sounds like their trajectory is better than ours . Hope we can keep up to be a good rival.

Is Groce not great? I would argue that he is.

That was a 1st-class gack job by Fiami.

Great showing for the MAC tonight. This preconceived notion that the 13th and 9th best teams in a couple of football conferences deserve a bid over either of these two teams tonight is ludicrous. That idea truly is March Madness.

I understand the first reason. The second one, not so much. Care to explain?

Fiami’s last made FG was at the 5:34 mark, just 2 made FT’s in that remaining time. Akron out scored them 9-2 in that stretch to win by 2. I thought most of the Redhawk offensive possessions late looked awful. You have the ball, tie game with about 30 seconds left and you waste 2/3 of the shot clock dribbling time off…to end up with an Ipsaro out of control runner in the paint. I can’t imagine that’s how it was drawn up, with the ball not going to Suder or Kraft.

IMHO… When it was time… Miami didn’t have anyone who could win the game for them. It’s why I surmised they weren’t ready to win an NCAA game yet. Maybe NIL $ will get them over the hump…

Meanwhile Groce knows what he’s doing yet again. But… does he have the special player that will win an NCAA game for Akron? So far no. Maybe with the right matchup this is the year….

Anyway. F Miami….

Akron will lose in the tourney by 20. Mark it down.

Miami hasn't won the league since 2007. It would be better for the overall health of the league if someone other than Akron, Kent State, Ohio or Buffalo won a MAC title. Creates balance. Spreads the wealth. Etc, etc.

Depends on how far you go back. They were a power in the early 60s when both OU and Akron were competing for small college championships in football and basketball respectfully.

Don't know what you are talking about referring to the "small college championship" in basketball. Never heard of such a thing. The "College Division" in football (that was the official name) only existed for about a decade. After the 1960 season we were reassigned to the "University Division," which later became D1, and then was subdivided into FCS and FBS.

That link classifies "small colleges" as NCAA D-II-III NAIA. Ohio wouldn't be included.
