Capital is coming off a banner year where they finished 21-8 and were Tri-Champions (along with Marietta and Mount Union) of the always competitive OAC. The Crusaders also advanced to the 2nd Round of the NCAA Tournament (losing to national power Augustana).

The bad news this year is that this is a team that graduated their top 4 scorers from a year ago and will be a team looking for a new identity here in the early going in the season as some guys will be stepping into some new roles.

For what it's worth, Capital traveled to Notre Dame last night and were beaten 72-43. Capital head coach Damon Goodwin's son Dane is a sophomore for the Fighting Irish.

25% of the team won't even be playing because of injuries.

So what? We've got so many new moving parts I'd love to be able to watch or listen.

This is going to be a fascinating year to watch and I'm really not concerned about the final overall record. While I would expect initial struggles, it wouldn't shock me if they finished around .500 in MAC play. Maybe I'm being overly optimisitic.

Having Dartis and Ogbonda is huge. Such a young team and it's critical to have those two provide leadership and stability when things get rough. I realize Ogbonda is new to the program but with his time in an ACC environment, that is valuable experience to have on the team. And I'm pulling for Dartis as hard as I've pulled for any player. He deserves a healthy, productive year.

I can't wait to get down to Athens for a game.

Who tests the live stats software we are using? As an SQA myself, I can't believe this version made it to production. Updates once every ten minutes, no full PBP available, and the mobile version has nothing but disabled links.

From what I can gather on Twitter, we aren't fooling around with this D3 squad to start. Preston and McDay looking strong.

THANK YOU for the comment on the live stats. Been making me crazy here. What a mess.

Twitter has been helpful- good to see some quick clips on the Ohio account and Taylor from WOUB has had some decent notes as well.

I saw that we forced 19 turnovers, but only shot 41% from the field and 24 from three. I don’t know if Roderick or Price played. I imagine someone went and will have some great insight. Maybe OUcountry.

It was a weird setting. Where were all the folks in the gold section? I too was impressed with the kid from Akron. Early on, Capital outhustled us on most of the loose balls but they couldn't shoot a lick. Daris couldn't hit the broad side of barn the first half but after he made his first 3 in the second half, his smile and attitude quickly returned. Dad's weekend needs to go back to the winter when we have a real game. We used to routinely put 10K in there for a Dad's weekend game and the house rocked. Oh, the Roger Waters scoreboards looked really clear and not even Abdul Jabbar could stand in front of them.

Vanderplas, McDay, Dartis and Preston look ready. McDay looked very promising. Could be a rough early season with Murrell, BRod, Price and Brown not available. I was seriously bummed when I looked down and none of those dudes were dressed. Curses.... Boals was calm and doing a lot of coaching - liked his demeanor today standing/leaning on scorers table throughout. Nice to see them working on a half court trap and zone. Springs sure is athletic but didn’t really venture inside at all on offense that I remember. Too bad. 110 busted out some Rage Against The Machine. Crowd was decent. Not many exciting plays. Game served its purpose well I think. But all those dudes not dressed is a bummer for sure.

I didn’t see anything that drastic. I was just disappointed in not being able to see what this group could really look like. Hopefully we get to see it at some point this year. Today was sort of like opening a Christmas present and seeing that it needs 8D batteries you don’t have. You can play with it but it’s not what it’s supposed to be. I expected Ogbanda to look a little more dominant against such a small team but he wasn’t. Preston, McDay, and Dartis all looked pretty solid. Springs and Foster, meh...I doubt we see huge contributions from those guys this year. I walked away a little concerned about our bigs, honestly. And did BVP even attempt a 3 today?

Poster above was right, it was a weird day.

I am excited to see this team on Tuesday against a St Bonnies team that is very similar to us. They only have 1 Sr and 2 Jrs so the youth movement will be on display for both teams. Should be a great way to kick off the season!

I thought that JP, JD, BVP an SO showed their leadership and experience today. JP looks ready for a breakout Soph season. It was great to see JD back on the court, his energy and enthusiasm are just so contagious, it will pay off in a big way with a young team. BVP is just a solid consistent workhorse and Sylvester will really help the bigs with his physical play! All seem to be really high character kids and set the foundation for the team that Boals wants to put on the floor.

McDay looked really comfortable in the starting role and will be fun to watch this year.

Something that hasn’t been brought up yet was the FT shooting. 83% for the team average Is very good, can that continue will remain to be seen.

Sylvester plays very strong and physical and could end up in foul trouble. I think he was called for a flagrant foul at one point where his elbow hit the Capital players jaw on a rebound. The Capital player may have had a concussion and he took a step or two and then almost went to the ground. We will need him to stay out of foul trouble against the better teams as we need his size in the paint.

3 point shooting: wasn’t pretty but with the line moving back this year I think percentages will drop across college hoops until the players get adjusted. I believe that Sylvester and Springs both hit from outside which is helpful with the sets that Boals wants to run as will help open up the the court even more. This team will go as the guards go, but it’s a dagger when the bigs can step out and knock down a 3 as well.

Injuries: tough to see the guys sitting on the bench vs on the court, I think most should be back by time conference play starts. I think it will be fascinating to watch and see the development of this team.

Not that is means anything but the final today was 73-49 and when Capital played ND final was 72-43. All it really means is that Capital isn’t very good.

I hear some of you saying you hope the 4 out will be back for conference play. What is that based on? Has anyone heard from Coach Boals that these 4 are out a long time? If they are why were they practicing? Seems odd they were all throughout the videos but now hurt?

Supposedly Roderick was injured during the secret scrimmage vs RMU. But otherwise no idea on timing or anything. I think the only thing people are basing a quicker recovery on is we saw no crutches, walkers, boots, wheelchairs or breathing machines on any of the 4 while they were on the bench....

110 has become, yawn....maybe I'm spoiled, maybe I'm tired of the excessive hype. But it's SSDD with them for me. Blasphemy, I know.

All of the healthy guards and wings we already know about, plus Mcday looked solid to me.

Hoping everyone else gets healthy soon so they can grow as a team.
