Capital 11/2 (exhibition)
Detroit
Tennessee Tech
Morehead State
Purdue 12/17

AWAY
Villanova
St Bonaventure
Iona

NEUTRAL
Baylor 11/21
Utah/Coastal Carolina 11/22
Villanova/Miss State/MTSU/Tulane 11/24

Probably one or two more to go. Call me crazy, I'd actually be cool with a SWAC or MEAC early on given our youth.

Are you already ducking after saying "SWAC" and "MEAC" in a phrase about non-conf schedule? ;-)

Personally, I'd rather see OVC/Horizon/CAA/CUSA/MVC scheduled vs either of those conferences.

Serious upgrade in opponents. Too bad that Purdue game is after the students have left and on a Tuesday night otherwise it might have been our first legitimate 10K+ crowd in years.

Is Villanova confirmed for Myrtle Beach opener? Or is that speculation?

Us saying we never want to play the SWAC or MEAC is like the Big Ten or ACC saying they never want to play the MAC.

Not even close. SWAC/MEAC are traditionally the worst two leagues in CBB year in and year out. MAC is normally middle of the pack. The difference between P6 leagues and MAC top-to-bottom isn't at all comparable to difference between MAC and SWAC/MEAC top-to-bottom.

I was confused when I first read that because I hadn't listened to his comments at the Bobcat Caravan in Columbus last week. But he did clearly say that they'd play at Villanova. So it definitely seems like they could play 'Nova twice this season ... once on the Main Line in Philly and once on The Strand at Myrtle. Pretty cool.

All in all ... a nice schedule is forming. A couple OVC teams (FAR better than SWAC/MEAC opponents), a decent Detroit program ... tough roadie to open at St. Bonnie and another at Iona ... home game with Purdue and the Myrtle Beach trio. That's 10 pretty quality non-conference games. I like it.

According to the Sagarin ratings, an average Big 12 team would have been a 12-point favorite over an average MAC team. An average MAC team would have been a 14-point favorite over an average SWAC team, and this was in a year where the MAC was rated pretty highly. Two years ago, the difference from Big 12 to MAC was 14 points, and from MAC to SWAC was 12.

when is schedule usually released?

I'm looking forward to getting to the Convo for one of first few games of season.

Recently, it has usually been one of the last two weeks of August, and one year in the last 3-4 it was just after Labor Day. (I think)

There shouldn't be a restriction for us to announce the entire non conference schedule as soon as it is set, but the past few years, they've waited to announce the entire schedule in late summer.

Agreed, although last year, the MAC was ahead of the game with an earlier announcement than any year I can remember.

Does anybody know if there will be a return visit to TnTech?

There are a butt-ton of mid-major D-1 schools near it, thus an economical road swing would be easy to squeeze in games with Belmont, Lipscomb, TSU, Peay, etc or whatever combination plus maybe a game at historic Memorial Gym vs the new look Jerry Stackhouse Vandy bunch.

Awesome ... thanks!

I did see this ... https://www.vuhoops.com/2019/6/6/18655367/villanova-baske...

Looks like I'll be picking up the ol' man in WV and making the drive to Philly to see our respective alma maters clash for the first time.

Was hoping they'd meet in the opener in Myrtle Beach we're going to ... but doesn't seem likely with this game. So to The Pavilion on the Main Line it is!

So it's possible Ohio could play Villanova twice if they happened to meet in bracket play. But at any rate, Ohio will play at Villanova plus play three from a good group of Villanova, Baylor, Utah, Miss State, Middle Tennessee, Tulane and Coastal Carolina.

I've been told by a person who has good Villanova sources that we're in different brackets at the Myrtle Beach Classic, so both 'Cats would have to reach the finals in order to play there.

Seems to be the case. Nova faced College of Charleston twice in the regular season a couple years back ... same deal. They played Charleston in Philly in a regular season game ... and then met Charleston in the Charleston Classic ... but it was in the finals because both teams advanced.

Seems like MB would be the same.

Nova is set to visit Cbus on 11/13 to play O$U (Wed night) a couple weeks before MB. So I'm guessing Ohio will travel to Philly that wknd? Or maybe the previous weekend after both teams open the season. Nova is set to open with Army, probably around Nov. 6 or something. Ohio opens at St. Bonnie to start ... would Ohio start year with a trip to upstate NY then down to Philly? Doesn't seem like that would happen? So I'm guessing it's the wknd of Nov 16 or around then before both head to MB.

OR ... they wait until after MB and they play it in early Dec. But that seems unlikely b/c Nova typically plays their Big 5 schedule (Temple, Lasalle, St. Joe's and Penn) during Dec and they have Kansas scheduled on 12/21.

This is obviously way too much put into this ... but I have a work trip the first week of Nov and I really want to get to Philly for this game ... so I'm willing it to be the 2nd wknd of Nov, ha!

Cookeville is kind of no-mans land .... but you are right about a lot of opportunity for decent games nearby.

WKU and MTSU are a pair that are just as close to Cookeville as Nashville. You could even throw in Tennessee .... Knoxville is just due east of there. UT Chattanooga is due south. Hell if you going to go to Peay in Clarksville ... might as well keep driving about an hour and go to Murray State. Better game, IMHO.
