Well.....I am on board. Like the hire and, as always, OHIO has my full support.

I hope Dustin stays. It is hard to imagine he wouldn't given Geno's ties with JC.

He has earned the right but that's now up to JC.

Andy Katz doesn't seem to expect much out of us for next year.  Here is his very early top 25.

I wouldn't stay if I was Dustin.

A. You just got spurned for the HC job.
B. Groce can pay you at least $180k, which will be a sizable raise.
C. You go to a much higher profile conference at a higher profile program.

I don't fault him at all for leaving.

Andy Katz also said we had no chance to beat Georgetown in 2010.

Jim Christian may not have won an NCAA tourney game, but our seniors have won three in three years.  I don't think enough people are giving our guys the credit they deserve.  I don't see Christian flubbing this season, not with Cooper, Offutt, Ivo, and Reggie in that huddle.

Completely agree for all three reasons.  I think he could get past A but B & C are hugely important.

Are we sure that Groce wants him to join the staff?

No, but this is a message board we speculate. That being said, I'm sure JG will try to add somebody with Illinois ties, much like when he added Dustin with Ohio ties.

5 years $425,000 per year is the reported contract for Jim Christian.

He will definitely be taking somebody, Jamall Walker tweeted that he will be coaching Illinios' colors next year.

I'm glad its not the 600k that had been reported. Steve Hays might have had a heart attack.

Good.  The last time he was pumping us up I remember how that turned out . . .

Would that be a bad thing (assuming of course, that it was a non-fatal heart attack, but one that forced his departure from the University)?

425K --- this could leave money for top assistants...hopefully he retains D. Ford. If D. Ford goes to Illinois, he is
going to have to reestablish himself there. I say he sticks it out at OU, then nabs a HC position in 2013 or 2014.

I think the $600 might be the total package with incentives, with $425 as the base.  Not sure, I guess we'll know soon.  I don't think Prof. Hays reaction is much of a concern one way or the other.

Funny how the Illinois fan board is still fearing that JG will bring Dustin Ford and other assistants over, and we're fearing him going over.  They were hoping Dustin would get Ohio HC job to keep him away from Illinois.

The most ridiculous thing is that even before anybody mentioned it one of my first thoughts was "what will Steve Hays think about this?" It's sad that he has continued to spew hatred toward athletics as a whole. I know people who buy into it and get visibly upset when I tell them that I disagree with his stance wholeheartedly.

I've followed the mbb program closely since I entered OU (yes, Administration, that's the name of the school ... nothing wrong with Ohio U.) in '91 and, I'm sorry, the program officially died on 4/1/11.

Christian, who was too good for Kent State, is now coming to Athens. He QUIT his latest job because he was about to be fired. Or, he was SCARED of competing with the big boys of the Big 12 and decided to exit stage left.

The idea of taking a someone like that, a guy who is sloppy seconds from Kent, is beyond pathetic.

I'm hoping Cooper & Co. either go pro (i.e. Europe) or transfer out IMMEDIATELY. There is no reason, none, to play for a joker like this. A few of the guys may be close to graduating but, if it was me, I'd take the academic hit and play D2 ball at Ashland at this point.

And, I can't wait to see Ford & Boals get head coaching gigs (maybe even in Oxford) and prove the current administration wrong.

Ohio Men's Basketball ... RIP

The transition from "Let's all calm down" to this post was...AWESOME.

Wow! Just checked back in after hoping people would calm down.

Besides this "sky is falling" post, it seems, for the most part - we are ready to listen to JC.

Obviously this presser is important on how we all feel going forward. All I can say, he better outperform JG at Illinois - that speech wouldn't have won me over.

He's an excellent professor as evidenced by this www.ratemyprofessors.com/ShowRatings.jsp

Why exactly would we want him to leave the university?

He thinks that spending lots of money on sports at a place of higher education is stupid. I'm glad he cares enough about Ohio University to get involved a voice his opinion.

Don't mean to hijack the thread....Forgive me that rant.

I think a classics/word religion department is stupid.

The difference between myself and Dr. Hays?  I understand that his department has a place and that it ENHANCES the University, and I'm not going to lead a crusade to remove that department from campus.
