Ok...so here is a team that is 4-3 in conference and has one of the top 3 players in the league. He is averaging 19 points per game. The next highest is James the post player at 9.6 ppg. They beat Beefs at Buffalo..beat Kent, beat Western. They epitomize the MAC this year in that seriously any team (other than maybe Eastern) can win on any given night. I know we've been bad but think about it...we have been in every game. We have not been truly blown out. This is one of those games where we can win. We need McDay on German out of the gate and BVP on whoever their 5th starter is so he can stay out of foul trouble. We can get this one!

I would like to see the strategy suggested in the Akron thread tried in this game. That is to give Preston some post-up looks against German. Get him to expend some energy on defense and maybe draw a foul or two.

We could really use this one.

It seems like German has been there forever. It definitely feels like a winnable game, especially if we can take any momentum from the second half on Saturday.

Oh, and their floor is hideous.

Also, I think Mark Montgomery is a supremely underrated coach, but NIU is one of the two worst basketball jobs in the MAC. I don't see how he ever gets out of Dekalb without taking, at best, a lateral move to another conference.

I tweet about how awful that floor is every single time I see it on TV. That floor, the one at Memphis, UCF, and I'm sure others....they're all terrible for TV viewing.

It's the EMU football field of MAC basketball.

It only got worse. I watched our women's game against them last week on TV. With the men's three point line moving back this season, they had to paint the new line on the existing court. Instead of a white line, the men's line is red and barely visible to TV viewers.

This is so true. Ohio could just as easily be 5-2 in the league right now as they are 2-5.

I'm just wondering when/if all of these close losses plays a toll on their mental state. Constantly losing tough games can wear on you. I've like the mental make-up of this team so far this season ... so I'm hoping they remain mentally tough. I think the EMU comeback on the road was a perfect example of where they could've packed it in that day and took an "L" ... but they remained in it and fought back to win.

Yes ... I'd love to see this team continue to mature and these close losses turn into some wins.

But honestly, this is pretty much what I expected after the non-conference. A competitive team ... albeit young ... that doesn't get blow out ... but would struggle to win 6 games in the league.

At 2-5 ... they're pretty much on that pace to go 6-12 in the league.

How dare you disrespect the non-green colored football field! I happen to love it. When you watch it's like you're somehow watching a game on black and white TV. All of the non-green colored football fields need to live on.

Yeah the NIU basketball floor is bad. Add Oregon's to this list.

They keep losing, but I think they keep getting better. It doesn't look to me that the mental side has changed much. Ohio has gotten big contributions from just about everyone who has stepped on the floor so far. Just a hair or two off in the losses. We'll get someone we're not supposed to, for sure.

FWIW, I thought JD and BVP showed a positive attitude in the post game press conference.

We need McDay on German out of the gate
Kept thinking during the Akron game (as we couldn't get stops) that we needed a true lockdown perimeter defender ala Ricardo Johnson in the Groce era, or more recently Mike Laster.

Thinking about current roster, McDay seems like guy with most quickness to become that guy.

BVP has got to figure out how to avoid foul issues. It’s a broken record right now.

Was it Woody Hayes who said something about there being 3 things that can happen when you throw the ball into the post to Ogbanda? And two of them are not good?

I’d say all three! Last game people were saying how they liked what he could do. About the only thing is rebound and he’s not doing that tonight either.

Foster needs to step up like he did to start the year. What game did he have 10 pts in the first half? McMurray does more at 6'7.
