We need to change the mind set to play D.
Without a good D we will continue to struggle.
BG came out after the half and clearly played better D particularly on the parameter. This got them back in the game and controlled the 2nd half.

Yes it will be a struggle to get to .500 in the MAC, but keep the faith as this team is young.

Hopefully the Bobcats bounce back in Buffalo and at Eastern next week.

As Groce would say, "Don't flinch". A younger Ohio team did and the veteran, league favorite didn't. That was simply a matter of the tougher team making the winning plays.

I think a double-double threat is the missing piece for this group. I don't thinl that player exists on this roster this year, but maybe someone grows into that for next year or maybe it will be a newcomer. It would have been nice to have someone to gobble up some of those offensive rebounds BG pulled away late.

Credit to the two students who stood in the front row. They withstood some other student throwing sandals at them trying to get them to sit.

This teams still lacks a spark off the bench. Would like to see Brown get a shot. In place of Roderick is fine with me. I assume Roderick is simply a stand/shoot guy. Great to have but not a spark-type skill in my mind.

Vander Plas and McDay played hard and tough all game.

I like how BG plays. Aggressive and athletic team.

Boals said Preston was sick post-game. Quick turnaround game this week. May need to try out some others at the point next game.

We are playing with house money this year. To be 9-7 and 1-2 in MAC with 2 decent games in those losses -- still optimistic. Plus Murrell, Brown and Roderick are still getting sealegs. Still optimistic can go 9-9.

I was shocked to see how immobile Jordan Dartis has become. Just a shadow of his former self.

True. But he still makes shots and gets in the right position on defense. He is very important to this team because of his experience.

The 2nd half defense was pretty bad. It just looked...lazy? Credit to BG with their backdoor cuts taking advantage of people out of position, but they got way too many open and easy looks. Preston looked gassed by the end. Really surprised Brown didn't get a run in the 2nd half to provide some type of spark.

The offense got off track once BG stepped up their defense. I remember only a handful of wide open looks in the 2nd half. Still even as bad as they looked they were still in the game, and like others have said they just didnt make the plays to win. There isn't a killer on this team like Turner. When things are clicking and everyone is playing well, Ohio is a tough out. But it was a tale of two halves today.

I agree the Ohio defense looked lazy at times in the 2nd half, but relatedly the BG offense looked unstoppable. Night and day between the 2 halves.

Jason Preston has really struggled the last 4 games. Not just what shows up on the stat sheet. He has just struggled with vision and control when bringing the ball beyond the perimeter. Needs to have a big game with 10-12 assists to get his confidence going.

It looks like we're having trouble finishing the game. In the last three losses, here are some interesting stats.

BG - down one with 8:55 and lose by 9
Western - down two with 2.45 and lose by 12
Campbell - down two with 1:51 and lose by 8

Why?

Because we have a young, inexperienced team. I think that’s pretty obvious.

I don't really buy that. We start a graduate student, a senior, a third year sophomore, two sophomores and a freshman. We bring a third year JC transfer off the bench. All of these guys have played in high level AAU atmospheres. My only concern at this time is what has been an inability to close out a game.

That may be our starting lineup, but at one time toward the end of the game, I counted two freshmen, two sophomores and senior on the court together. We are a young team, and a team with moving parts that haven't played together very long. As I exited the arena yesterday, I told my wife, "This team is a work in progress." I expect improvement as the season goes on, but, to use an old-fashioned term, this team has yet to "jell."

Thank you for the appreciation. It was upsetting that we were given numerous F-Bombs and even had a parent come up to us and call us jerks for doing all we can to keep any bit of DLo and the Ozone inside the Convo. We’re not sitting down anytime soon and we won’t stop cheering either! Go Cats!

Not only does BG have the best player in the MAC - Justin Turner - but also the best dressed coach in Huger.

Also on the staff at BG is Anthony Stacey. Younger fans in the Convo yesterday that saw him on the bench may not realize that he was one of the best to go through the MAC around 20 years ago. In fact, I youtubed him later last night and saw some highlights of his playing time at BG. It clearly showed how far the league has declined since then. Not only were the arenas packed, both in the old Anderson Arena in BG but also several away game arenas, including the Convo. But also in the level of play. That BG team had Stacey, Jay Larranaga, the coach's son, Dave Esterkamp (whose younger brother Steve was a Bobcat) and especially the high flying Antonio Daniels. Athletes like Daniels just don't play in the MAC these days. I recall a Wednesday night game in a packed Convo circa 1995 that showcased Antonio Daniels and Gary Trent. Those days are long gone.

I don't get the whole standing thing. If you are the only guy in section standing, sit down. Stand for great plays and when the energy is high in the arena but not like that old guy or the guy with the virginity shirt the other night. They looked like fools.

I respect your opinion but in all honesty the energy is always high for me when I attend games. The Ozone used to be packed with students all standing and going crazy. I wish it were like that today and I refuse to sit down and give up on any possibility of getting that back. You also have to understand that Norm (the old guy) personally knew DLo and I think he feels it’s up to him to do what it takes to get the student section back in honor of his legacy.

Good and valid points. A week from Tuesday when the students are back in town and more than two of them show up and the band is to their left, have at it. It's a fun time to be in the Convo and it's great to watch youthful exuberance. I get that and appreciate that. But when it's one student and one old guy, it's kind of wierd and almost a spectacle. I go to lots of concerts and it's much more fun when the crowd is engaged. But if there are only a few people in the house, two guys in the front row cheering is kind of weird.

On one hand, it was still kind of a winter break game. The dorms had just re-opened that morning. It's common for that section to fill with adult fans and kids. My son and I did just that and my ticket seats were actually eight rows up in the upper bowl. On the other hand, every non-student in the O Zone section did the same thing as those seats aren't sold to the general public, so I don't think they have any place to be upset with you.

I'm just shocked there's an honest to God student on this board in 2020. As a former O Zone leader myself, I regret not coming over to meet you in person. I encourage you to keep the effort up and work on getting a core group of 10-15 others to stand and make noise at every game. That may require you to work the crowd pre-game and personally invite those you don't know to join you. Then when the team is better and more students attend, they'll have something to build on.

Can anyone recall an Ohio player having the half BVP had in the first half Sat. in terms of combining accuracy from the 3-pt line with an almost unstoppable post-up game? He knew it was his night after banking in a 3 from the top of key late in the first half, then running down the court with out-stretched arms.

BG had an ESPN top 10-worthy ally-oop dunk by Plowden. However, I was equally impressed with BVP's 2nd-half dunk on a baseline drive because his was contested by a BG big.

They were both great dunks. BVP with only one dribble beat his man from the arc and went two hands over their 6'11'' guy.
