At the moment I think we're the number 8 seed because of tiebreakers and in the lead for a home game in the first round of the tourney. Fiami (3-9) is 12th and Toledo (4-9) is 11th. Ohio, EMU and WMU are tied at 4-8. Ohio is 3-1 vs the other two (2-0 vs EMU and 1-1 vs WMU), so we should be 8th. EMU beat WMU yesterday and should be 9th and WMU should be 10th. They play again on March 3rd.

The Bobcats need to continue win at home because they have struggled on the road except for the close win vs EMU. The magic number is eight as if Ohio can achieve 8 wins, they should host a first round game. It wont be easy, but a win vs Miami in the final game should help the cause.

We could do a lot worse than at Central.

We'd actually be hosting Eastern if it stays as it currently stands.

It won't stand - but I think somewhere on that 8/9 line is probably where we'll end up. If we can manage to squeak out the 8 seed and host a first round game - especially if we win said tournament game and just get to Cleveland - I think you have to consider year 1 a success for Coach Boals.

After tonight, Ohio still leads for the #8 seed. We're tied with EMU at 5-8 and we have the tiebreaker over them. WMU and Toledo are both 4-9 for the 10 and 11 slots. Fiami is 12th at 3-9.

"consider"?

Every Bobcat fan would have signed up for this back in November.

Getting to Cleveland is great, but I'm more interested in how this stretch run goes than a one-and-done scenario in March.

Honestly, I was hoping (not expecting) for a little more than this. I was hoping for .500 in conference.

We'll have to revisit the pre-season prediction/expectation thread at the end of the season. Will be interesting to see how it all shakes out. I can't remember, but I thought I said Lunden McDay would make All-MAC Freshman team...have to believe he has a good shot.

This may sound premature and there's a lot of hoops left, but I'm already pleased with the way the group is progressing. A lot of the MAC losses have been close, competitive games, and that in itself is an improvement over last year. I look at a (potential, barring transfers) core of Preston-BVP-Roderick-McDay-etc... over the next 2+ years and I like our chances moving forward.

I'm with you- the future looks bright. In the immediate future, I am looking forward to what this team can become. What did Boals say in the presser? They have lost 5 games by a total of 25 points? They are a few possessions away from meeting our wildest expectations. I am looking forward to watching the rest of the season...one game at a time.

My conerns for next year are who will be the three point threat and replacing Ogbonda's 7 and 7 per game. That is almost 1/3 of the scoring this year.

Those are legitimate concerns, but losing that volume of scoring to graduation is pretty normal in college hoops. I hope (dare I say expect?) today's freshmen and sophomores to make strides next year and fill a lot of gaps. Ideally, it will be a considerably better team next year. As much as I'll miss the departing seniors, they have not exactly overseen a glorious period of Ohio basketball. Turning the page should excite us more than bringing any fears.

Agreed. And I don't think we've seen the best shooting/scoring from Roderick and McDay quite yet. Next year they'll be counted on more and I expect them to be even better.

That'll be good to revisit. I'm not even sure if I commented within that thread or not. Agreed on Lunden - he would have to be an all conference frosh, right?

That last thought....I'll miss Dartis, and always wonder what things could have been like if he and others had stayed healthy. That said, turning the page is definitely exciting for the future. I like the looks of Granger and Towns, and still hope we'll see a really solid transfer on the horizon to solidify this young talented group.

I still have a chance to go 3 for 4 if McDay makes all-frosh team....Ohio somehow wins 17 games and Self quits after the season...haha. My miss...Boals coach of the year...hopefully next season. Fun thread.

Not sure Self will resign, but the other two seem possible, and they would be fun if they happened!

We're still in the lead for the #8 seed. Now we're tied at 5-9 with EMU and Toledo. We're 2-1 against them and EMU beat Toledo a couple weeks ago, so Toledo is 1-1 in the three-way head-to-head and EMU is 1-2. But because EMU beat Toledo, EMU has the two-way tiebreaker between them for #9 and Toledo would be #10. EMU and Toledo play again this season (the graphic on the ESPN3 broadcast had us playing EMU on the 29th, but that's wrong).

Buffalo is a must win. I think Ohio can beat Kent and Miami, but the Zips will be favored over the Bobcats. If Ohio can grab 8 MAC wins, that should get them a home game in the conference tourney. Seven wins is not a lock to host.
