Teyvion Kirk to UIC.
New coach, Luke Yaklich.

Well, what is the consensus, does the young man having sat out one season already, have to sit out another or can he switch universities as he has done and play first semester or second semester? Or does he have to sit out the entire season and play in 2021/22?
I suggest he use the time to work on free throws.

From the NCAA website:
"If you transfer from a four-year college to an NCAA school, you must complete one academic year in residence at the new school before you can play for or receive travel expenses from the new school, unless you qualify for a transfer exception or waiver."

Unless he gets some kind of hardship waiver, he has to sit out again.
Is he seriously going to not play a single minute with CSU and sit out another year making it a 30 month hiatus from playing competitive basketball? Bizarre..

The exodus has begun at Western, with their best returning player already gone.

WMU's Michael Flowers is now in the portal. Three days ago,I thought the Broncos had a roster in the top third if the conference. Now, they're toast.

He averaged 2.8 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game. His minutes were cut a lot toward the end of the year.

Was the America East defensive player of the year in 2019. Led all of JUCO in BPG in 2018. Not much offense.

And I look at Vest...what Boals got out of him!! This guy would be serviceable in the middle.

I find this a somewhat intriguing possibility. His defensive abilities in the center could really help our team, I would think.

I agree. We do not necessarily need offense. Between Preston, BVP and Lunden and B-Rod taking another step we will be fine offensively. We need to replave Vests 6 and 6 per game. This guy blocks shots which Vest really did not do much of.

Can he shoot it? If he can't shoot it, for me, he's not worth the last scholarship(s) remaining.

I don’t agree. Defense and rebounding are central to winning programs. Look back at the statistics for Dennis Rodman and note the number of championships he was a part of. He was primarily a rebounder and defender. You’ve got to score too but elite teams play solid defense. Bernie

If we can get a big man that’s a good rebounder and rim protector we will be fine. We don’t need a dominant offensive center.

He's a very poor shooter. He shot 46% at the foul line and hasn't attempted a 3-pointer in two years. Despite his shot blocking and rebounding ability, there were several games where he only played single-digit minutes.

I agree that Ohio doesn't necessarily need a scorer, but he seems to be such an offensive liability that he sometimes struggled to get on the court. Of note, his production actually was higher as a sophomore (when he was league defensive player of the year) than this past year. In similar minutes, his blocks dropped from 2.4 to 1.5, scoring went down from 4.4 to 2.8 and free throw shooting from 65.5 to 45.9%. Rebounding did go up from 4.2 to 5.4.

Honestly, this is where I was going with my initial post. Sylvester may not have been an offensive force, but he also was not an offensive liability. And for me, there should not be a single scholarship used on a player that is not at least a threat when given a wide open look, or one that can't put it back off the offensive rebound from 8-10 feet away. Definitely don't disagree with the sentiment that having a rim protector and rebounder is important. But I envision the scenario where a player like this comes out to set a high screen, rolls off, and no one guards him because he can't shoot outside of 5 feet away.

UC had this issue last year with Chris Vogt. No one even guarded him outside of 15 feet because he couldn't shoot out there. In the modern game with floor spacing being important, and having 5 guys that can at least be a bit of a threat, I find that type of player to be frustrating to watch. I'll take the 6'7" kid who can really play over the 6'11" kid that won't even attempt a 3-point shot in a game, much less make 25% of them.

With all due respect, in a lot of instances, Ves was an offensive liability. If he caught the ball 3' away from the rim it was like he was paralyzed and didn't know what to do. Passing him the ball on the move almost never paid off. For as much positivity as he brought, he had bricks for hands. Yes, he made a few 3's and was a pretty decent charity stripe shooter, but I never felt comfortable when he caught the ball anywhere near the paint.

Agree 100%Cat

wOUld love to see Preston have a low post threat, one who won't fumble his passes and has the strength and touch to finish around the rim. I would think Preston would love to see this addition to the roster as well.

Justin Turner announced his top 4. Bowling Green is one of those schools.

BG's 6'11" starting center, Mattos, entered the portal.

The NCAA is extending the late signing period. The signing period begins April 15th but will now extend into August.

https://www.aseaofblue.com/2020/4/4/21207740/college-bask...

Don't know how this might affect us.

There looks to be more than a hundred currently (maybe hundreds) in the transfer portal (http://www.verbalcommits.com/transfers/2020 ) and the NCAA is expected to get rid of the "sit out" requirement soon. It's unclear to me if that were to happen whether it would start immediately or some day in the future

Considering there could be no basketball at all next year, sitting out for transferring would seem less of a punishment anyway.

Jeff Goodman has the latest on the transfer portal. Now over 600 players. It is current. Scroll down to CAA and you'll see Dwight Wilson to Ohio.

This means someone is transferring for us if we reached out right?
