The Athletic ran the following today:


We asked the basketball world, ‘Where are you going when this is all over?’


They had responses from about 100 folks in and around College Basketball. Here are a few that I thought the board would enjoy. :


Jeff Boals, Ohio head coach: I’d go on vacation with my family to the Bahamas because I watched “Outer Banks” and there’s $400 million of gold there.


Fran Fraschilla, ESPN analyst: We have a family business in the Fraschilla household, so if I woke up tomorrow and could go anywhere, it would be first to Philadelphia to hang out with my son Matt, where he is the video coordinator at Villanova. Preferably, it would be great to see the Wildcats play at the Palestra in any Big 5 contest. (I’d be grabbing a pretzel with mustard and a Coke, by the way.) Then I would head to Orlando to see my other son, James, where he works for the Magic. It would be ideal if they had an NBA game to play. Either way, both boys would get a huge hug from dad.



Chris Holtmann, Ohio State head coach: 1. Local: The Pancake House for breakfast — a relaxing spot we enjoy more in the offseason. 2. For an extended time: beach as quickly as we could load the car. Probably Folly Beach in South Carolina.

That's an interesting thought - who in Ohio goes to SC and who goes to NC. I was having a discussion with a fomer Minnesotan and we were trying to draw the geogrpahic line between those snowbirds who go to Arizona and those who go to Florida.

I had the audacity to tell my dad and aunt (siblings who schedule family vacations) that there are other places in the US to go and they were floored.

It's just reparations for all the damage Ohio boys did to South Carolina back in 1865. It was, of course, the "Mother of Secession" and deserved all the damage inflicted on it by the boys from the Buckeye State. There were, for the record, about 60 Ohio regiments with Sherman on the March to the Sea. Nonetheless, most Ohioans have repressed ancestral guilt and go to South Carolina in the spring to assuage those feelings that they don't even know consciously that they have. How's that for quack, pop psychology! ;-)

Folly Beach is unique - Been there multiple times. Lower brow = less glitz, less expensive and more real, more shrimp on the plate, etc. Plus, Where I was actually bitten by a a shark - really. They catch a lot of smaller white tips off the pier there, and with all the bait in the water not far from the shore prolly draws them in. I was walking out of the water when I felt a weird tug on my foot, and when I got out of the water saw there was a ring of bite marks around half of my foot that had all drawn blood. Cool - Was bit by a shark, did not kill me, so what are the chances of ever getting bit or attacked by a shark ever again?! Also - there is an oyster roast shack down a long lane in the middle of the marsh on the way there from Charleston - totally low key cinder block place that only exists for one reason - big buckets of fresh roasted oysters - cheap - Real and Tasty as it gets for the Low Country.....

I was down there 3 or 4 years ago. Still does it.

Almost scared to say this since some don't seem to like Myrtle Beach, but if you have a family trip or golf trip to MB, I own a 3 bedroom condo there and we rent it out. So if you are going to suffer going to the beach let me know.

Just think of who sponsors the MAC tournament...

It's a far sight better than Galveston, I'll say that.

Two years ago I stayed right around the corner from Sea Pines at the Westin. I'd have to say Hilton Head seemed run down from how I remembered it back in the 80's when it was magical. Less development. Today it feels like a small city rather than an exclusive story. True story back in 88' I ran into David Stern outside an NBA store open down there at the time. He asked me why I bought a Miami Heat T-Shirt and if I was from Miami. They were an expansion team that year so was excited.

They can all go to Nelsonville for vacation for all I care. Pick up a pair of Rocky Boots as a souvenir.
