86-58 butt whooping of Toledo last night. Erika 8 for 11 from 3 on her way to 31 points. Plus 9 assists, 8 rebounds & 4 steals. Dare I say one of the best performances in Convo history? Had she gotten the triple double, it for sure would've been.

Cece is a great slasher to the hoop but I think she needs to be more selective. She hurled up 21 shots last night (with just 2 assists)...the 5th time in MAC play she has shot over 20 times.

One weak spot, Bobcats were 4 for 12 from the line. Oof.

Hoping the Bobcats can win out to Cleveland.

Good game for the ladies. I stand by my prediction of last year that Johnson will be selected to the All America team by her senior year. She's that good!

I know I said it here at some point, but if Cece could just become an adequate three point shooter...not great or maybe even good, just adequate...she'd be a true nightmare to guard. Defenses have zero respect for her shooting ability and sag way off of her. Even near the foul line, defenses back off. It's frustrating to watch her hoist threes now because it's what the opponents want her to do, it's making her far less of a threat.

Johnson was awesome last night. Had it not been for some (what seemed to me to be) bogus foul calls, she had a legit chance at another triple-double. It felt like the officials last night nearly lost control of this one towards the end. They were letting a lot of physical play go and it almost came to a head on Johnson's 4th foul. A Toledo player was slow getting off of Johnson, who was on the floor, so Erica gave her a little assistance. IMO, it was the perfect time for a double-T and send a message to both teams to clean it up, but just a foul call on Johnson. The second half was a steamroll-job from Ohio and Toledo seemed pretty frustrated, lots of hard physical contact with not a lot of whistles.

Akron is up on Ohio 40-37 at the half. Cece Hooks has 24, including 2 threes. But Erica Johnson is all out of whack - 0 points on 0-8 shooting, plus two missed free throws. The Zips are getting good looks and knocking down their threes.

Ohio loses 79-76. The Bobcats were up 62-56 entering the 4th, but were outscored 23-14, made only 1 of their final 7 shots, and got outrebounded by a whopping 17-6 in the final frame. Hooks finished with a career-high 41 points but fouled out with 1:30 left. Johnson recovered some of her scoring touch to finish with 16 points.

Katie Barker went down with a leg injury early in the second half and did not return. Ohio really needed the bench to step up, but in 55 minutes of play, Beck, Kroll and Guice scored zero points. If Barker is out for any length of time, lack of bench production could really haunt this team.

On a positive note, Ball State also lost today, so Ohio hangs on the second seed with a 10-4 record.

At one point Cece was 15 for 19 from the field on pace for a truly historic game. I didn't watch the game but suspect they started more double teaming and isolation on her as she struggled to get good shots up in the last 14 minutes or so of game play.

Hit free throws, we win. Make shots at the rim, we win. That being said, the stripes were pretty kind to Akron over the final few minutes. Akron's Dawson, who had 4 fouls, steamrolled Gabby Burris on a drive with a few minutes left which should have fouled her out, and it was a whistle-swallowing no call. She made several key buckets for Akron afterwards. It appeared she again fouled out late on a charge and the call was overturned. A few foul calls on Ohio, based on what I could see, were really bad. Hooks' 4th foul looked like a phantom call, to me.

At least Ball St lost, so we still have a hold on the 2 seed. Hopefully the ladies will finish strong and make some noise in Cleveland.

We were there and I have to totally agree on the officiating.

Hard to imagine this would be a 10 loss season but here we are. I thought this would be our Rocky 2 season but it is turning out more like Rocky 3.

I can't remember seeing a reversal of fortune quite like Ohio's in the last week. After the Miami and Toledo games, it looked like they could beat anyone. After Akron and BG, it looks like anyone could beat them.

Katie Barker's injury had to play a part in last night's loss, but the game also highlighted Ohio's lack of depth, chronic foul trouble, low assist totals, and inability to defend the opponent's leading 3-point shooter. These problems have been overcome, but never really addressed, and they all cascaded on the Bobcats yesterday.

The next two games are probably going to determine what kind of season this will be. Buffalo, a team that has been Ohio's kryptonite, comes into the Convo on Saturday, followed by a road trip to Kent State next Wednesday. Ohio has now slipped to third in the overall standings, and KSU is just a game behind in fourth. Losses in those two games may well knock the Bobcats out of the top four and a bye to the quarters in Cleveland.

No, I was trying to treat our progression like Rocky. Last year being Rocky 1 where we made great strides and came up just short against a great competitor, so my hope was Rocky 2 where we come back better and win. Instead we appear to have come back unprepared and distracted and in the midst of a letdown. I was really just referring to the 1st half of Rocky 3. It was a stretch of an analogy but I gave it my all.

Only got to watch the last quarter of this game. Worst quarter I can remember seeing the women's team play. Hope it doesn't continue, and that they right the ship against the Beefs.

Gabby Burris has become my absolute favorite player. She did great, and her teammates made her a couple of nice feeds. But when she's your leading scorer, you have a problem. Way too many easy opportunities missed today, both from the field and from the line. The last possession was a microcosm for the game. Layup that wouldn't go, and one of two from the line. Brutal loss that should never have happened. Two of the three refs called a good game. Should have beaten them by 15 anyway, even being outrebounded by 14.

Also, when only one bench player plays more than two minutes, it makes it really tough to close out a game.

With Katie Barker on crutches, the margin of error is now paper thin for the Bobcats, because they can only put four scorers on the floor. No one Boldon picks from the bench to replace Barker is likely to have any impact in terms of points. Caitlyn Kroll, Barker's replacement today, took 2 shots in 32 minutes, scoring 3 points. In the first game against UB, Barker hit 5 threes in 11 attempts for 15.

Without the added point production, weaknesses this team has shown all year but shrugged off are now costing games. Today's 55% free throw shooting and rebounding deficit of 14 are not atypical this season, but the team has been able to outscore those weaknesses. That's no longer a given, especially since this team tends to abandon the offense in the fourth quarter in favor of driving into the teeth of the defense to put up low-percentage shots. Today Hooks was 1-7 in the final quarter, Johnson was 0-3, and the team as a whole did not score in the final 3:23, save for Guice's 1 of 2 from the line that ended the game.

Kent State held off BG in double OT today, so Ohio and Kent are now tied at 10-6 for the third and fourth seeds. One game behind at 9-7 are EMU and WMU, both winners today. Ohio plays at Kent on Wednesday in a game that could knock the Bobcats out of the top four.

39-37 Bobcats at the half. Erica Johnson has 25 points despite missing some minutes with a leg injury. It's a good thing she has the hot hand, because Cece Hooks has 3 fouls, Amani Burke has 2, and both of them have been fumbling the ball away at an alarming rate. Ohio has double digit turnovers already.

Despite making almost every mistake imaginable in the 4th quarter, they still mounted a comeback and took the lead very late.

The offensive foul on Johnson looked a little soft, but she has to keep her cool there. The technical foul gift wrapped the game when they could have still had a few seconds left for a tying three.

That offensive foul on Johnson would have been a good no-call, given how physical the game was. The call was made by the least experienced of the refs.

Western Michigan won tonight and are tied with Ohio at 10-7. WMU has the head-to-head tiebreaker over Ohio, so WMU now has the fourth seed and Ohio the fifth. Ohio still has a chance to flip places with WMU, but Miami on Saturday becomes a must win, and WMU must lose their final game at Ball State.

Central Michigan was considered to be a sure thing for an at-large when they were 15-0, but they lost again tonight and are now 15-2. I think that makes us a one-bid league this year.

Watched the second half of this game. This team still has a lot spunk, but they don't seem to be playing smart. Lots of ill-advised shots and very sloppy ball handling. They don't seem to have the same chemistry that they did earlier in the season. I don't think that can all be explained by the Barker injury. Erica's technical in the final seconds was the final straw. She clearly committed the foul, which was not a smart play. She's too smart a player to play out of control like that. She may have realized that, and been mad at herself, but you don't lose control right in front of the official. I hope the turn it around against Miami!

4/20 from 3. 5 assists...14 turnovers. Not gonna win many games like that. To me, it looks like a lot of individuals playing out there instead of a team. Hopefully they can recover before the tournament.

Not that I can put myself in the mind of a player, but I have to think/assume that her frustration was the culmination of the way that 4th quarter was dominated by the whistles. There were a lot of no-calls on the Ohio side, and Kent shot 22 4th quarter free throws. Kent made 1 FG attempt in the quarter, a quarter in which they scored 19 points. Kent's leading scorer, Shumate, scored 13 of her 20 at the line.

There was a lot of sloppiness to our ladies game last night, no doubt about that. But I think you could see the frustration on the sidelines and in Erica Johnson at the end of the game for how the game was called down the stretch.
