2 observations:
All jerseys hanging in the Convo are for players being 'honored', except for Frank Baumholz, whose jersey is retired.
The one 'honored' jersey hanging in a separate, peripheral section, is that of Caroline Mast. I think it needs to be moved.
I would agree her jersey should be moved alongside the rest. I also maintain there are a few other jerseys, including that of DJ Cooper, that belong in the rafters. I would add Brandon Hunter to that list, and I'm sure we could find 3-4 others who legitimately belong up there.
Just curious what standards you feel should be had for such an honor?
Players whose name is mentioned as being All-MAC for several years during their time at Ohio. I'll name some names I would put in there since I've been a Bobcat that aren't already up there. I'm not saying "retire" numbers. I'm saying hang the jersey.
Also, I've said it before -- there should be a big banner up there with All MAC players - men and women. There should be a MAC POY banner as well. Stuff like that is free advertising, if you will, for success and tradition. Success and tradition not only helps recruit players, but it helps attract fans. We all agree winning sells tickets, right? Well giving new students/fans the impression and feel that you're a winner ought to help sell tickets at least a little bit. And there isn't nearly enough inside the walls of The Convo that speaks to the number of good years that happened there.
Back on track -- since I've been a Bobcat (fall '95), names I would put up there are below. My standard would be one of three things: All-MAC multiple times, top-10-12 in school history in scoring, or MAC POY.
Gary Trent (obviously there now)
Geno Ford
Brandon Hunter
Leon Williams
Jerome Tillman
DJ Cooper
Tony Campbell
Outside of my years, I would add:
Paul "Snoopy" Graham
Danny Nee
(and I'm sure I'm missing someone worthy of mention)
All of these guys above are talked about as legends in The Convo, and should be recognized as such in my opinion.
****And adding a star here -- I would have, if he would have stayed for that final year, put Jaaron Simmons into this conversation. I also would have put Jordan Dartis in the conversation, had he continued his upward trajectory before injuries derailed his last two seasons. Both would have approached top 12 in the all time scoring list. Dartis could have been an All-MAC 1st team, and Simmons was definitely of that caliber. But that's speculation. The names above this paragraph are not.
