Everyone seems to shoot 90% against us. Even when taken awful shots

I do not understand. From Illinois to the last 3 games what has happened? How is Towns a no show? Why is Preston so MIA since Illinois? BVP are you there? Lundo?

Their quickness and ball movement is killing us. We look slow and unwilling to play defense.

I just don’t think we are as good as we thought (hoped).

We certainly don't seem to want rebounds on either end of the court. Akron totally took Wilson out of his game today.

How low has Foster fallen on this roster that he can't get into this stinker?

Or Towns? Why does BVP hate the block now?

I wonder if all of the positive attention the team and especially Preston got after the Illinois game has decreased the team's focus a bit.

On the positive side, these last couple of games are reducing my anxiety about a bigger school hiring Boals right away.

Some of the Boals top line recruits really need to start establishing some game. Throw all the rocks you want at ol’Saul, but take Preston and BVP off the roster and........

Wow. To lose a game by almost 20 (was worse going into junk time) that you were favored to win is a swift kick in the nuts. I am not sure about the effort/energy issue others alluded to, maybe a bit on the rebounds. I hate to oversimplify things but to me most of this is just shooting. I personally didn't observe a game where Akron had significantly better looks than us...they just hit them and we didn't. In the paint, mid-range, 3 balls...they were better in all of it. 14 of 25 from 3...goodness.

And I don't mean that in a "oh well they just didn't fall" sort of way. I mean it more in a way "maybe we just don't have enough good shooters to win consistently" sort of way.

Looking at the last 3 games, we look like a bottom dweller. The previous 3 made us look like the MAC favorite. My guess is somewhere in the middle but after this rollercoaster so far this year, who knows?

I know what you’re saying but today was probably not necessarily the best case for those thoughts. I’m not sure they kept it closer than what it would have been had they not been playing.

LCJ & Trimble Jr shoot a combined 11-16 from 3...there's your ballgame.

Where's the defense?

OK, use the Marshall game then. Pretty much the same outcome as today. I realize we didn’t shoot worth a damn today, but we are largely relying on 3balls coming from Preston and BVP as well, game in game out. Just saying it would be nice to see ONE of the Boals heralded recruits to be a consistent force sooner rather than later.

It's virtually impossible to win when the other team shoots 64%. Some of it was Akron just making shots. A lot of it probably was bad defense.

Akron played tough flypaper defense. I'm surprised they have a loss at all.

BVP needs to stop launching threes from beyond NBA range. I think he just took one from the other side of Youngstown.

Lackluster.

This team has looked tired during the last three games. Maybe since Fiami has postponed next week's game, the players should go home for Christmas and come back Sunday to start prepping for BSU.

Akron set the tone for this game right out of the gate with their D. We did not match Akron's effort and therefor this game was over by half time.
Our 4 wins were against lower competition and today our boys got hit in the mouth with the reality that we are now playing against D1 competition.

I also think that 9 days off between games can make a team a little rusty.
I just now heard that we will now have 10 days off due to the Miami game being postponed. Not a good situation.

Totally forgot about this game being played. Pushed the radio on which was tuned to 640 the Akron station (used to carry Kent games) and hear a basket by Akron putting them up by 28 late in the 2nd half!

I guess I am glad I forgot about it. Groce running guys off the line, hanging his hat on defense and our lack of defense from what I am reading is a recipe for disaster. I thought we had a good chance to start 3 0 on the season. Guess I will reconsider. Pomeroy will adjust projections accordingly. I think the MAC and the BIG are going to be surprisingly deep and competitive this year. Too bad we won't be one of the tough outs.

I think has got a little something for Akron tomorrow, and they're not gonna like it.
Such confidence from OhioBobcat is typically the kiss of death.
And the kiss rang true.

Looks like we have a seven man rotation 5 of whom are essentially guards. I'm hoping the other MAC teams don't pay too close attention to how Akron defended Preston. They picked him up early and got up in his space which led us deep into many possessions before a shot was taken. Also, I hope the Baltic disease hasn't afflicted Vander Plas. He needs to be working more within 10 feet of the hoop. Good thing - it's only one game and I'm assuming everyone gets in the tournament. On to Oxford.

Other than JP, who on this roster can create their own shot? Akron looked like a team with several players who have this capability.

JP not only can create his own shot but he obviously can find teammates in position to score. Does this mean he's going to have to play 37 minutes again this year for this offense to function?
