Boals better be hitting the recruiting trail hard, or we'll have a team of walk-ons next year. Not surprised by this one, and suspect it won't be the last.

This moves worries you? Really?

He seems like a great kid and he obviously has a ton of potential, but c'mon.

I hope he fares better at his next stop.

Doesn't worry me in the long term. But short term, between him and Carter (as well as some others rumored to be considering an exit), that's a tall task for Boals to assemble in recruiting. Not to mention, we don't know if our 2 current commits will stick.

He had a lot of flaws but he was still the team's second-leading scorer and had two years to get better. The only players left who played significant minutes are Vander Plas, Cowart, Preston and Murrell (who didn't play much until the last half of the year).

I don't want to trivialize it too much, because I do think some of our young players were starting to show a lot of promise last year, but this was a last-place East team. It would suck if they all left, but we're not talking about the breakup of the Warriors here.

Based on Boals' preferred offensive structure, a guard who can't shoot or dish doesn't fit.

I'll try to get the heads up to Boals.

This one doesn’t bother me.

Carter bothers me.

With that said I have faith in Jeff as a recruiter.

I’m still excited about the direction of this team.

There will be 20 grad transfers and 50 JUCO players available by next week better than the two who are leaving. Take note of the year Larry Austin had at CMU after doing nothing at Xavier and Vandy.

To me, this isn't all that surprising, but it's still a blow no matter what anyone says...the kid scored over 900 points in two years at Ohio. With as many problems as Ohio had on offense the past two seasons, that's a big deal.

TK is talented; a great rebounder for his size and has nice touch on his floater/push shot around the basket. He had well documented problems with turnovers, but had he been playing in his natural 2/3 spot there was room for more growth.

Someone will get more out of him than we saw here in Athens and I for one will be rooting for him.

I agree with your assessment of his game and potential, but I'd rather he be someone else's project. We've had five years of too many projects.

Be prepared - players we don't want to leave are going to leave. Players we wish would leave are staying - and will be allowed to stay.

Does this mean that Bobcats are not always happy about just being Bobcats? Well, well, tickle me silly.

In truth, I see all of this as being very positive. Sounds like Coach Boals and the players are wasting no time figuring out who is on board going forward and who is not. Thankfully, Boals won't have to deal with unhappy players moving forward and can work on creating his own style of team. Like it or not and regardless of whatever individual pieces showed promise, this Bobcat team was at the bottom of the MAC and failed to gel consistently as a team. Instead of putting a Hot Rod Hemi on a skateboard, it is time to go out an assemble a top of the line street rod out of parts that are supposed to fit together.

If he and Carter leave, we may need to look at adding some grad transfers or regular transfers, we don’t need to just hand them out like candy. We can also save them for next year. If we can keep McDay and land Ben Roderick, we can still win more than 14 games next year. I hope they both stay and improve, but if they must go, we will be ok.

Folks...it is what it is. Anyone expecting some magical, great season in Boals first year is delusional. Because of this five year mess he's inheriting, we aren't going to truly see what Boals can do until year three. Let the man get out there and recruit. If Carter leaves...that's a blow...I get that. But anyone else isn't going to make or break anything. Remember...this team finished dead last in the MAC East.

Addition by subtraction.. I don’t get why everyone is up and arms. We were TERRIBLE last year. Next to last in the MAC. Carter leaving sucks, TK is whatever, James- he was a non factor. Best of luck to them but I don’t see them contributing at a bigger program. Winning solves all problems, let’s bring in some JUCO guys and transfers who want to prove something.

meh...

after two 14 win seasons I'm not going to sweat any transfers.

I'll be excited to see increased athleticism, ball control and shooting % next season.

Agreed, I think the locker room and the product on the floor will be a bit more enjoyable. Blaming Saul for "regression" ? I think the only way he gets better is to get to a place where a Coach will put him on a short leash and demand his attention. The bench is your friend.

Realistically we could return Vander Plas, cowart, Preston and Murrell as well as McMurray who would have given us a big body at least who was getting some PT. Hopefully we can get Carter and Dartis back. I am not going to say anything negative against a kid who is looking to better their situation after their coach was non-renewed. I will look forward with the guys we have.

If we get Roderick and McDay they are instantly a 3-guard rotation with Preston. And no one knows if Boals has a Stony Brook guy or two who want to come over with him or some grad transfers he's met in his recruiting trails. I feel confident that while we may not be very good next year, we will be better the next year.
