If this hit when I was a college student and I saw the data on the harm (or lack thereof) it does to 18-22 year olds....yeah, I would not have social distanced from my fellow college students one bit.
And hasn't OU long been a place where many students tend to prioritize having a good time over following the rules or behaving as safely as they should?
Doesn't matter at that point.

If this is going to turn into a business and these kids want to get paid and sponsored next season when NIL kicks in, will the university put up with someone acting out of line in this situation? I mean, if we all can get fired for violating protocols, why couldn't a ballplayer getting paid at that point that jeopardizes finances for his teammates who need X games to earn a bonus get canned too?
From what I know, a good number of OU athletes have been bending and breaking the university's rules for conduct since well before I arrived on campus in the 80s. I think many come to OU not just to play sports or get a degree, but also to have quite a good time like other students in Athens -- and hopefully be careful and reasonable about breaking rules so they don't get caught. I doubt that COVID or NIL changes that situation entirely.

But nobody should feel guilty about wanting to watch Ohio basketball and March Madness. The last year has sucked enough and if watching Ohio basketball and Jason Preston play hoops for two hours brings them happiness, don't hold it against them.
Nobody has said any of that.

The person that raised that question then responded to explain that he was only doing so as an obscure reference to a different thread in the Football forum and is not actually questioning whether ". . .we need basketball that badly?"

Sounds good...wasn't made known with original post immediately and totally missed his follow-up explanation. Thanks......I'm not on football thread much so I missed the sarcasm. Appreciate it.

I'm of the belief that this country would be in much better shape if we had listened more to Dr. Fauci, the other experts and science. However, the former president didn't believe in any of that.

My son plays on a D3 team in Ohio. (sorry not stating the school). Everyone on his team tested positive by September. His entire fraternity where his lives 40+ in the house have all tested positive by end of November. Most with no symptoms and a few lost their taste for a few days but none of them were sick.

My son was home for the summer when he tested positive. He lost his taste for a few days. We took precautions, he isolated downstairs and no one else in the house ever tested positive. He has been back to school since August; with a longer than normal break for Christmas. But living on campus and in class learning most of the year. They play a limited schedule this season and cancelled a scheduled West Coast trip and Southern spring team trip.

Similar with my neighbor’s experience where their son (Penn State) tested positive over the summer along with some teammates. Their entire house ended up testing positive. Quarantined with mild to no sickness. It was worse (for them) two years ago when half the team contracted the flu. I am sure there are isolated cases but this does not seem to slow most athletes.

The reason we have vaccine now is because of the former president not “sleepy joe”.

Sorry, the reason we have the vaccine now is due to many years of basic research definitely accelerated by the pandemic. Most likely any president would have stepped up under the circumstances, particularly since my reading tells me that the idea for “warp speed” came from a presentation to President Trump by a group of pharmaceutical industry leaders.

Politicization has apparently dulled our ability to deal with facts without spin. Oh would that it weren’t so.

I am recommending that we attempt to keep politics off this board for the good of the entire Bobcat Attack program.

Even taking the question at face value, there's a pretty big leap from that to "you should feel bad if you want it."

I was the person who posted the article asking “ do we really need football this badly?” It was meant merely as something to think about. I don’t think anyone has all the answers.

Some of you people forget what is like to be a college student. College students all across the country are getting Covid. Games are being rescheduled or called off on a daily basis. Look at the programs that have played less conference games than Ohio. SMU 11, Wichita St. 11, UMASS 10, Richmond 11, Boston College 11, Louisville 12, Davidson 11, Baylor 11, Xavier 11, Texas mailto:A@M 8, East Carolina 10. This list goes on and on. Be thankful that any Bobcat athletic team was able to compete in the past 12 months.
How about Marshall, or did they reach herd immunity?

Not really....there were some folks on here last year who were getting on people for being disappointed the day the MAC tourney was canceled last year.

According to Russ on the Jeff Boals Show tonight:

*The team never left Athens. Russ had gone ahead to Kent to set up for the broadcast and tweeted some things from up there.

*There was one positive test and two players who were identified in contact tracing, but there were enough players on the roster to play. But local health officials in Kent deemed that the game could not be played.

Boals added that testing was done today, the results should be back tomorrow and the team might be able to practice tomorrow and play Friday at BG.

Boals also mentioned on his WCMH interview that the results from yesterday might jeopardize the availability of the three players for the tourney next week because of the 10-day protocol.

No kidding, I remember vividly our offensive line being out at bars the night before games or our WBB team doing the same. Some impressive performances after a few drinks I must say......

When I played soccer at O.U., the coach had a really good way to cut down on
weekend partying.

Most weekends we had a Saturday morning game, to make sure we were done before football, even though we didn't play at Peden.

With practice on Friday, and an early morning game Satuday, partying on Friday night wasn't even given a thought.

Our coach put an end to any wild Saturday night partying by having an 8:00 practice on Sunday morning.
You knew better then to not be ready for a run to start practice.

Of course, some players, especially freshmen, didn't always get the message.

Still remember the first time I saw the scene in Glory Road where the coach made his hung over players run up and down the court.
I was like, this looks familiar.

With WrestleMania 11 right next to New York City, Vince McMahon called for an all-staff meeting at 7 AM the day of the show. The meeting consisted of Pat Patterson showing up, telling everyone, "have a good show," and adjorning the meeting.
