Do we really know if it's the kids? Coaches and other personnel at other schools have tested positive this year, and through contact tracing it could be almost anybody from professors to office personnel to maintenance people.

Arkley post makes it sound very likely the season has ended.

https://suacbobcats.com/2021/03/02/ou-at-kent-state-postp... /

+1 on the "sick to my stomach" aspect. What a gut punch for a team that looked very capable of winning this league.

That's 2 straight seasons, if Arkley is correct, of the season ending before the Bobcats play one game in Cleveland. The pandemic that keeps on giving.

Really curious if the coaches show is still going to be a go tomorrow night. If so, how much will Boals disclose? Going to be a nervous 8 day stretch in Bobcat land coming up.

Buffalo beat Akron today. If tourney started today we'd be 5th playing a reeling Akron squad instead of red-hot Buffalo and BG.

Some of you people forget what is like to be a college student. College students all across the country are getting Covid. Games are being rescheduled or called off on a daily basis. Look at the programs that have played less conference games than Ohio. SMU 11, Wichita St. 11, UMASS 10, Richmond 11, Boston College 11, Louisville 12, Davidson 11, Baylor 11, Xavier 11, Texas mailto:A@M 8, East Carolina 10. This list goes on and on. Be thankful that any Bobcat athletic team was able to compete in the past 12 months.
Texas A&M dodged playing Vandy both times. If they bother to show up to the SEC tournament, their "fight song" should be the Chicken Dance polka song.

Short answer, yes. Literally no reason not to have it.

Long answer, do we "need" anything to live? Do we really NEED cars? What about restaurants? Televisions? Phones?

You realize my consistent posting of this message through the season is specifically targeted at those basketball only fans who started a thread during the FB season asking "Do we really need football this badly?", no?

Whoa... big news: Season may NOT be cancelled after all!

Arkley just tweeted this in reference to his earlier article:

Will update the piece later, but Ohio has reached out to clarify some things.
1) OU was prepared to play tonight (roster was deep enough after testing)
2) OU plans to play Friday at BG
3) PPD today was centered on both schools trying to make sure nothing happened prior to CLE

What does #3 on Arkleys list mean? To make sure nothing happens?

Dunno. Maybe something to do with the contact tracing and making sure no one has COVID but not yet showing symptoms?

I'm guessing that Ohio and Kent are using the same level of caution that the MAC used when it decided against having make-up games after March 5. The less chance for exposure to covid the better.

Protocol says at least 10 days to get back on the court. So anybody that gets covid after today would not be cleared for first game of the tournament.

Better to lose a game now (both OU and Kent are in top 8) than later. And in reality with league being so close 2-8, seeds don't mean much.

Yes...we do. And it's not because we are ignoring covid and how it's affected our lives. But nobody should feel guilty about wanting to watch Ohio basketball and March Madness. The last year has sucked enough and if watching Ohio basketball and Jason Preston play hoops for two hours brings them happiness, don't hold it against them.

And hasn't OU long been a place where many students tend to prioritize having a good time over following the rules or behaving as safely as they should?

Doesn't matter at that point.

If this is going to turn into a business and these kids want to get paid and sponsored next season when NIL kicks in, will the university put up with someone acting out of line in this situation? I mean, if we all can get fired for violating protocols, why couldn't a ballplayer getting paid at that point that jeopardizes finances for his teammates who need X games to earn a bonus get canned too?

I am back to being depressed. These two paragraphs in Arkley's update suggest we have a player (or players) who won't be able to play in the MAC quarterfinals:

"Ohio’s latest COVID-19 issues could dramatically alter the end of the team’s season. Given Ohio’s 10-day quarantine period for contact tracing, the timing of the positive test and quarantine starts will be critical to determining the state of the OU roster for the MAC Tournament.

"Ohio was notified about the COVID-19 issues prior to departure for Kent on Tuesday morning, according to the school. With the positive test/contact tracing begun on Tuesday, the 10-day quarantine period for any players affected would include the quarterfinal round date of March 11."

If OHIO was notified about the cases prior to departure, why did they depart for Kent? Just curious.

I get the impression they knew there were some covid issues before leaving but the contact tracing wasn't complete until after they got to Kent. It was then that they realized they didn't have an adequate roster to play the game.

Was it reported that they did depart? I got the impression that they knew before departure, therefore they did not.
