Silver lining is we are likely playing Buffalo in the quarterfinals, so to play them this close to the end plus an additional game with the similar personnel in Kent.

Today was the start of tournament level intensity.

Ugly, ugly, ugly. Never had a chance.
Meh. I jinxed the Bobcats. Told a players parent we would win.
Felt like it was me who gave the jinx. I got to go to the game (a thank you reward from Virtual Sellout contribution). I was concerned going in after the last couple big blowout wins and 6 game winning streak, and 3rd game in 5 days. Looked like we had no legs at all - on O & D. Buffalo played with A Lot of energy.

Couple take aways from the experience getting to see one of these limited attendance games live. I was able to break the longest stretch in my life of not getting into the Convo for a game - of course first time since the end of season last year - and I have been at a game (well, Many/Most all each year) every year since my Freshman year 1977. It felt So Empty. The few friends/family/guests who were there, plus the team, made more noise than I would have expected to hear - no crowd roar but not bad. The handful of Buffalo fans plus their team made quite a bit of noise (with good reason and effect). At halftime there was a presentation on court to recognize Seniors from various sports, Cheerleaders, Dance Team, etc. I felt for them. Very small live crowd to give them a hand and cheers - and after a year of not even being able to do what they do every game.

Our bigs just do not match up with theirs. No contest athletically. We have recruited enough guards. We need athletic bigs. BVP and Wilson are not that kind of players.
Think about this....Dwight could barely jump due to injury issues. He wasn't himself at all. As for BVP, look at his numbers and performances against Buffalo last couple of years. He has played really well against the Beefs. Today was the first game where Buffalo has shut him down. Earlier this season, he made a huge defensive stop against Jeenathan Williams to preserve the win up there. And Wilson lit them up in that game and hit the winning bucket.

So, while I agree we need to recruit some more athletic bigs, those two guys have not been controlled by Buffalo until today. Like Preston said, hope we get to face them in Cleveland with redemption in mind.

If I'm reading the standings correctly...like you said as of today...Ohio Vs Buffalo and it looks possibly like Akron vs BG in the quarterfinals. Wow.

Also enjoyed being in the Convo, my first time since last March 6 on Jordan Dartis' senior night (a Bobcat W). They also had a presentation before the game for the basketball team and the announcer mentioned that Ohio has no seniors on its active roster. They did recognize a team manager as well as grad asst. coach Conner Murrell.

I've been saying since early January that UB is the team to beat in the MAC until a new champ is crowned. They showed it today.

Jeff, you can’t seriously say you think our two Biggs are as athletic as the ones from Buffalo. I agree, they have some very good basketball qualities but athleticism is not one of them. Even on their best days they’re just not that athletic. They might be bigger and stronger. Buffaloes guys are leaner and quicker.

I have to agree with this. The beefs inside the paint energy (O & D) was very apparent today, and their interior passing was excellent. BVP and Wilson may have more actual beef, but slow on/off the hooves....

Athleticism is just one component of winning basketball. We aren't as athletic as Buffalo, but we already showed we could beat teams more athletic than us. We beat Buffalo on their home floor. Akron is more athletic than us, but we just ran them off the floor a few days ago. BGSU is pretty athletic, but they had a six game losing streak earlier.

We were slow and tired today and couldn't shoot, and Buffalo used their athleticism to run circles around us. Might be a different outcome if we face them in Cleveland.

Agree with this as well. We could not hit the side of a barn from the barn door today also...

If Wilson's hurting it might be best to sit him the next two games and maybe get him better for the tourney. Even with two losses the worst we can be is sixth (we'd be 9-7; the best Fiami can be is 10-8, so we'd have a better percentage; BG could still finish ahead of us even with only one win this week). Wherever we finish we wind up playing Akron, Kent or Buffalo, depending on how this week plays out, so we'll need to have Wilson as healthy as possible in Cleveland.

This game was certainly a reality check for me. If someone had told me we'd clobber Akron with Preston and Wilson on the bench, and then be clobbered by Buffalo when those two return, I'd have said they were using a little of that most famous export from Meigs County. Whatever happened today, I hope we get it our of our system like real quick!

This will be our first Senior Day loss since 2014.
Buffalo's first win in Athens was on Senior Day.

If Buffalo wins out, they very well could be the two seed. I don't see Ohio dropping to the seven seed. The Bulls have two home games left and could win both of them to grab the second spot. The Bobcats may end up playing Kent, BG or Akron the first game in Cleveland.

I would rather face Kent, BG or Akron in the quarters over Buffalo. Regardless, what a difficult opening game.

After watching this game it was apparent to me that the real difference was the intensity difference between the 2 teams.
Buffalo had it and Ohio did not.

Now let's see if we can up the intensity for these last 2 regular season games.

If Buffalo wins out they are the two seed. If Buffalo wins out and we win out, we get the 3 seed.

In any event....there will be no easy games in Cleveland. Top 8 in MAC are all tough.

Should we read anything into how they did not honor Dwight on Senior Day?

I feel like every time we struggle we get the "no effort" narrative from a lot of fans. I just have a hard time buying it. In some ways it is circular logic, where success breeds confidence and joy and further success...I didn't see a lack of effort. They just got beat...Buffalo played a complete game with a great game plan for us.

Regardless, I can't write it off as a bad day or a tired team. You'd be silly if you didn't feel less confident in a tourney run after that. Anxious to see how they handle Kent.

The thing is, Buffalo does not play that way every game. Sure, they've been on a run lately, but that doesn't mean that will continue at Cleveland. They are always capable of self destructing. They are a volatile bunch.

Remember last year when they came to Athens with basically the same personnel and Ohio went out to a 20-0 lead and coasted to a double digit win?

I would agree with Jeff M as every game in Cleveland will be tough. I can see Miami or Ball possibly winning a game, but not three in a row. The other six teams are all capable of winning the tourney.

Buffalo is a Jeckel / Hide team. They played great against us, however they have lost 4 conference games this year!

I do believe they are the scariest MAC team this year.

I plan on being in the Convo Saturday to see the 2 teams that will meet again in the MAC championship game 2 weeks later.
From 2 weeks ago - another good call. Never in doubt after Ohio and UB ended up in different halves of the MAC tourney bracket.

I've believed all winter that UB has the most balanced lineup in the MAC. The good thing is that this is not a best-of-seven series.
