It's a taste, an opinion. What you like doesn't have to be what I like. I might be in the minority but that's OK - although I've had PMs sent my way from posters agreeing with me.

And for the record (again) I understand the basketball "lingo" despite not being from Indiana.

And I too listen to other teams' broadcasters despite not being from Indiana. I favor Michael Reghi, the dean of MAC broadcasters, and Paul Keel - even though I can't stomach the team he covers.

'Squared used to get a lot of criticism for playing his Barbra Streisand albums in Read Hall back in '79-80. To each his own.

I fully agree with you -- what you like doesn't have to match what I like (or others).

The two guys you mention Reghi and Keels, are outstanding. Paul Keels is one of the best. When he's teamed with Lachey for football, they're outstanding. I actually think his talents show up better for basketball though. His delivery is very, very smooth. He gets excited, but not too excited, when he's supposed to. And, there's very little homerism from him, which to me is a measure of a really good college BPB guy.

Very interesting that you chose Barbara Streisand to include in your dig at me. While I own 0 Streisand albums to listen to (then or now), I did listen a lot to two other artists with the same initials. Can you name them? One is easy for the few on here from Read Hall in 79-80.

I wasn’t in Reed Hall but I’m going to take a wild stab at it and say Seger and Springsteen.

Overall, I think Russ does a good job, but I get what you are saying. For many, he might be an acquired taste. He's certainly in the upper echelon of current MAC play-by-play guys. After 13 years at one school at this level, you wonder how much longer he wants or can continue to this as I'm sure $$$$ comes into play at some point. I'm sure he's had and still has bigger aspirations than calling college baskets and football at OHIO.

I don't like Reghi as much as I once did. He seems less prepared for the game at hand each time I hear him. I can tell he's looking at a roster sheet in the middle of plays so he knows who's doing what. That said, when something cool happens, he gets appropriately excited. I love this call - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsLgoZuZ9MM

His vocabulary has improved, though. Unbelievable number of malapropisms back in the 1990s and early 'OOs. He was the Little Carmine (Sopranos) of sports broadcasting.

Bart Simpson? I recall a New Zoo Review soundtrack on your Close-n-Play stereo many days.

Could be.
After all, Nancy Cartwright did attend O.U.
Even gave the Graduation speech a few years ago.

WTH does being from Indiana have anything to do with anything? Ballers are from all 50 states and speak the same language from FL to WA to the Northeast to Cali. We don't have a hold on basketball.....well we do have the NCAA...so there is that.

I don't think russ or rob are from Indiana and they speak it well. What's your point?

I read on the Kent St board that Mike Nuga might be done for the year. Talk of an ACL injury. That’s a huge blow for Kent.
