He does not run the collective.
Nah he doesn't run the collective - he just runs the 1804 website. :D
So let's get some clarity here - there is the Ohio NIL Exchange -- https://app.inflcr.com/exchange/ohio-university - (Billy is this the entity you are referring to when you reference "the collective" ?) -- who oversees this? where do the funds come from? who decides which athletes get funds?

There is also the NIL Sports Collective (the "1804" website - https://1804sportcollective.com ) that is a "fan-driven and alumni-led Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) program for Ohio University" that is part of a consortium of "fan-driven and alumni-led Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) programs" created and managed by Blueprint Sports, a for profit business set-up in response to the emergence of NIL - https://www.blueprintsports.com - same questions as above -- who oversees this (the 1804 program)? where do the funds come from? who decides which athletes get funds?

And then the "connection" questions - do the two entities above (the "Exchange" and "1804") work in unison? is there coordination? if so, how? if not why not? Does "1804" give their dollars to the "Exchange" Are there other groups in or trying to get in on the process?

I'm sure there are more questions and better clarity - but that's a start.
The Ohio nil exchange is for businesses and individuals to hire student-athletes. the athletic department runs it.

The 1804 collective is managed by donors. The CEO works with coaches to who gets the money, and then the collective finds work for the athletes so they can collect the money. These are going to go away next year I believe when they can pay athletes directly.

This should probably be it's own thread, but I am the reason for the deviation in discussion, so my apologies.

I know the discussion is football focused on the 1804 Sport Collective side, but there is a basketball tab on their website. Is it just that no one is fundraising for basketball?

As was mentioned in another thread, the link to the basketball tab on the 1804 website is dead. 404 error. Page doesn't exist.

You can only donate to football from that site.

If someone has a different opinion than many of you then you want to criticize and tear apart that person. I continue to give you facts about some of these things like Boals being the highest paid coach in the league and ending up with five and three seeds yearly. I bring you facts of the baseball hire being less than average and being hired by this current administration. The same administration who made the mens hoop coach the highest paid in the league. This same administrator saw fit to secretly renew a womens basketball coach who has not had a winning season in four years and two of those seasons won six games each year. Many of you don’t want to accept those facts. Yet you enjoy belittling people who give you those facts. Believe what you want, but I know the truth. And no, I’m not related to anyone who runs a collective! I just give you the truth and many of you resist the truth!

Actually our women's team was 30-6 in 2019. Two of the last 3 season? 6-23.

Some might legit wonder what is going on there.

OCF- being a former journalist in college, I am surprised you did not do more investigating! I have not only done all the work for you, but you refuse to accept these facts that I provide. You realize that all the facts about the womens coach I provided are true. Yet you, like several others continue to ignore the facts. I'm guessing you think this administration has done a great job hiring the baseball coach. Outstanding record! Great hire by this AD! Also congratulate the AD for the wonderful job paying Boals, who is annually a fifth or three seed. This administration pays him top MAC salary. Kent, Toledo and Akron have all been better than Boals conference wise, but she rewards him top salary. The mens basketball program plays zero power four programs, yet this AD expects the football program to play 50-75% of power four schools to make money for the university. Are you doing your homework? The BB coaches are paid for the entire season, not a three game tourney in March. We won't get into the other major blunders she has made. I'm guessing your buddy Frank can inform you about the football program. Of course, since you aren't in the mood for investigating, then you have no idea that Coach Albin had the best record in the conference the last four seasons, yet was paid the sixth best in the league and seventh best if you include new member UMASS. All this information I provided for you are facts! At one time, you were a huge Solich fan, but I'm guessing you were not excited about Coach Albin. I'm asking you a question. Name me one better football coach than Tim Albin the last 50 seasons at Ohio University. I'm waiting on your response. You were a former journalist at one time and I expected you to do some investigating. However, it is evident you have not done your homework.

This is one of the strangest posts I've ever seen. I don't disagree with everything you say here. I'm not a great fan of the AD. I've stated that publicly in several posts over a span of at least a year or more. A recent conversation with a source close to the program that wishes to remain anonymous confirmed some of the things that you have said here about her. However, what I object to is your constantly beating the same drum over and over and over again. Also, one can think that Albin was a good coach, that Julie is a crummy AD, and still believe that Albin misplayed his hand and had very bad timing. Like the rest of us, Tim is human and makes mistakes. I'm afraid his dog should have waited another week to get sick! ;-)

#It's no great secret. Ridiculous string of injuries and loss of talent to bigger programs."

SBH- And the football program lost 14 plus players to power four schools and lost a bunch of players to injuries. The football program had success. The mens basketball program had many injuries this season but won more than six basketball games. The womens program has won six games twice in two of the last three seasons. And no better than 35 percent win percentage the last last three years. No excuses! The womens program has not had a winning season in four years, yet the AD secretly renews the coach. The same administration who hired the baseball coach. The same AD who made the mens basketball coach the highest paid coach in the league. Happy to see that you support those blunders!

Arkansas has fired coach Bret Bielema, the school announced moments after falling to Missouri 48-45 on Friday afternoon.

Bielema went 29-34 (11-29 SEC) in five seasons with the Razorbacks, never winning more than eight games in a season nor finishing better than tied for third in the SEC West. Arkansas showed some early progress after Bielema was hired away from Wisconsin, going from 3-9 in 2013 to 8-5 in 2015, but it has all been downhill from there for the Hogs.

"Shortly after the completion of today's game, I met with Coach Bret Bielema and informed him of our decision to move forward with new leadership in the Raozrback Football program," interim athletic director Julie Cromer Peoples said in a statement released by the school.

"... Our goal has been and will always be to compete and win in the SEC and nationally. I firmly believe that with all that the University of Arkansas has to offer, including our history and tradition, our facilities, our passionate fan base and competing in the nations' best conference, we will attract the interest of many of the top coaches in the nation."

The above quote was from the Interim AD at Arkansas around Thanksgiving seven or eight years ago. Just guessing that the same principles do not apply to Ohio's womens hoops or baseball program.

Do you think Cromer was going to fire Albin or something? You realize he was under contract for several more years, and was probably going to get another extension after the season. Instead, his dog got sick, he lied to the department, and took a job that is netting him less income (because he wasn’t smart enough to have his new school paying his six-figure buyout). He chose to leave Athens. Which is fine, by the way, Athens is not a place to live forever. But he chose to leave, under contract, for the UNCC job.

I ask you, how was the administration blind to seeing he was a good coach? She hired him, extended him, etc. What else do you want?

Ahh yes because the Ohio Bobcats baseball and women's hoops programs are on the same level as *CHECKS NOTES* Arkansas Razorback football, a member of the SEC.

It’s a great place. And that’s not a knock on anyone who lives there. But it’s missing modern amenities that can make it hard to retain high-level coaches and administrators.

Burner- you don't know the entire story. Do your homework like OCF. Coach Albin was a proven winner at the NW Oklahoma State earlier in his career and won a national title at the NAIA level. Look at the contract the AD gave Coach Albin when he was hired after Coach Solich retired. The initial contract in July of 2021 had stipulations that the AD would "revisit the direction of the program" or his contract after two seasons. Did the new coach have a stipulation like that in his contract? Did the baseball coach have a stipulation like the one I mentioned above in the contract. The current AD has hired several head coaches at Ohio, but did those hires have a stipulation like that in the contract? This administration was paying Albin the sixth highest salary in the conference and 7th highest if you include new member UMASS. Do you actually think this football program was the 6th/7th best in the conference? Many of you would be protesting on Court Street if Boals got that type of treatment. Boals track record isn't nearly as good, yet he was the top paid coach in the conference. No football coach had a better league record the last four seasons. Name the last time Ohio won ten games for three consecutive seasons. If Roderick McDavis or Duane Nellis was still president, this blunder wouldn't have happened.

Duane Nellis? My god.

It sounds like you don't know the full story, or you're just being ignorant.

Frank, while he had health problems, waited until July to force the AD to hire Tim because there is no way a full search could have been done so close to fall camp. The contract he was given was essentially an interim contract, without the interim tag to help Albin with recruiting. After his abysmal first season, he earned a new contract during that look-in (MAC title game, 10 wins, etc.).

The baseball coach, Craig Moore, was named interim coach for a season when Rob Smith retired in January, also right before the season. After the season, a full search was done and Moore got the job. So yes, the baseball coach had a "stipulation" in his contract as well.

When it comes to salary, yes, he was middle of the pack. Why would he have been higher? Because he won an NAIA title in 1999? Come on. He lost to NIU and Miami at home in 2023 and didn't make the title game. He earned a higher salary after the 2024 season. What you refuse to understand is that Albin played his hand early. He left, before the season was over. The extension and raise was surely coming. But he couldn't wait to leave.

Burner- you are evidently working with the current administration and related to the AD. And if Frank did wait until two weeks to retire before the season began in 2021, then that was the right move. Coach Solich knew what what he was doing. Coach Albin accomplished more in four seasons than any other coach in Ohio history the last 50 seasons. I have given you the FACTS that you obviously ignore. And after that "abysmal season" that you talked about, the football program won ten games for two consecutive years and got 11 wins in 2024. If this were mens hoops, baseball or womens hoops they would have been rewarded. I am not calling you ignorant, but you continue to berate ME. The fact that Albin was paid middle of pack and Boals was the highest paid coach in the conference should give you a wake up call, but you obviously are not able to see that. The baseball team has been WAY below .500 the last three years. If that would have been Albin, he would be dismissed. Quit making excuses for this administration. Also, the womens hoops coach has been worse than pathetic, but hey it is ok to secretly renew that coach. This AD should not be complimented for these huge mistakes. Do you actually think Nellis or McDavis would have allowed this mess? Do you think the other new coaches were given an "interim/contract tag?" Was the new football or track coach a few years ago she hired given this type of contract? This AD is tight with the President and this is the reason these blunders were made. And to your response of why would have Albins salary been higher? You just answered that question. She paid Boals the top paid salary in the conference for finishing 3rd/5th seed yearly. I'm guessing you enjoy watching 5 seeds yearly? Albin obviously was way better than that, but she refused to reward him. Keep supporting these huge blunders from Ohio's administration.

. . . Athens is not a place to live forever.
Ask Alan Swank and other long-time townies about that? Some of us really like it here.
It’s a great place. And that’s not a knock on anyone who lives there. But it’s missing modern amenities that can make it hard to retain high-level coaches and administrators.
Probably why Frank left so early in his career and didn’t stay with us. Or any number of Bobcats who spent their entire career here in Athens. And what modern convinces you want? I can ride my bike to work every day, walk to the store and get everything I need. I have cable, wireless internet, they even deliver things to my home if I don’t feel like going anywhere. The problem with retaining HIGH LEVEL COACHES AND ADMINISTRATORS, as you put it; is NOT the city, but rather the PAY, the dollar dollar bills!

This isn’t a knock on the best college town in America. I’m just saying there’s a reason so many staffers and even coaches are grads.

There’s no airport. There’s no trauma center. No movie theater in town. Little entertainment. The town is anti-business. No jobs other than the university. If you’re a single person, good luck. If you need advanced medical care? You’re driving 1.5 hours to Columbus. Shopping? At least 45 minutes.

It’s hard to attract talent to Athens that isn’t already affiliated with the university.. I’m not saying it can’t be done, but it’s difficult.

Also, didn’t Frank’s wife just not move to Athens full-time?
