Jake Wahlin of Utah. 6’10 put up 6.5ppg and 5rpg. These are usually the types we haven’t landed historically. He’s only a sophomore, but can clearly play at P5 level.
Yeah, Wahlin seems like the best of the folks I've seen mentioned here. His rate stats at Utah were strong, and he's skilled for his size.
You all getting a woody for a post with 6.5 ppl.
Per 40 he put up 10.6pts/8.5 rebounds. He did it against better competition. And he seems mobile and has good hands. As FJ said, are unlikely to get him. But he'd be a much better addition than the 6'5 wing from Findlay that Boals will sign for some reason.
Although it's not 100% fool-proof, when a guy was buried on the bench behind other good players at a power conference program, a look at who also recruited him is always interesting. In Wahlin's case that was: BYU, Arizona St, New Mexico, San Diego St., etc

Things to consider before deciding he's "not good enough" to play in the MAC.

Also if a guy who was highly recruited and averaged 3 points per game in the SEC (which has 14 teams in the big dance) from being stuck on the bench behind big $$ transfers...he's probably light years better than a 13ppg game from Podunk Nazarene starter who would be lucky to be a walk-on in the SEC.

Thus as more teams are eliminated from the NCAA and NIT... that is when you will see a flood of qualified candidates hit the portal.
I don't think anyone is implying Wahlin might not be good enough to play in the MAC. Unless Boals were to pull out a bag for him, no way does he land here. He'll make a lateral P5 or upper Mid-Major (eg, St. Mary's) move.

Just look at his game log, he put up 10 pts and 12 rebounds against Kansas, for example. He's only in the portal because Utah fired its coach.

This guy's 40 min rate stats are off the charts. He'd double our leading rebounder from this past season.

We’ve expressed interested in Findlay’s Will Aljancic. He’s a wing at 6’6. Makes you wonder how much turnover we might be anticipating.

And suggests Boals and staff have doubts that the incoming freshman wings can contribute right away.
Our recent interest expressed in Walsh’s Ayden Carter would support this hypothesis. 6’5 wing who put up 19ppg this past season. We’re on a long list of teams that includes some MAC rivals.

There are 6'10'' twin brothers transferring from Loyola Maryland. One is a clear starter and was second team all conference. The other began to start halfway through the year but stats show more of a complementary piece. Coming from Serbia and ineligible for NIL, I wonder what matters most to them in their new destination.

Here at BobcatAttack.com we feature an entire message board to all things Serbian when people can't help but make things political. That should count for something.

On the other side of the portal, what concerns do we have for our guys leaving? Really hoping we can keep the perimeter ground Paveletzke, AJ, James and Elliott together, but that’s a tough task in this era.

It's an interesting question. Staff continues to express interest in wings in the portal, so you have to assume they expect some turnover. Next year we've got:

Guards:
Elliott
Brown
James
Paveletzke
Sheldon
Burris
Kelly

Wings:
Nicol
Fisher
Mosley

Frontcourt:
Hadaway
Kuany
Evans

That's 13 of 15 roster spots, and the other two are for Boals' son, and the son of one of the NIL donors. Though, I believe next year schools can offer 15 scholarships, so maybe Boals' kid moves into a manager role and we free up another spot that way?

My guess is that Nicol moves on to somewhere he can get time, and we lose another guard and someone from the front court.

It'll be pretty amazing if we go 16-16 and don't lose a single returning rotation player. Amazing does not mean good, to be clear.

Isn't that the truth.

It even applies to my dog "Ms. Houdini" (not her real name) who escaped from the biggest harness they sell at Tractor Supply.

But please assure me Chase Boals was not on athletic schollie this season.

Chase Boals - no schollie, but he doesn't need one since he received free tuition as offspring of a current university employee. Hopefully we're not paying his room/board either.

A lot of new names staff is following that entered portal last two days.

Bradley Land, Colorado Christian (D2). Listed as 6'6 Forward. 15ppg and 5rpg.
https://ccucougars.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/brad...

Thomas Allard, Lincoln Memorial (D2). 6'7 9ppg and 4rpg. 41% from 3 while firing off nearly 5 3PA's a game (sound familiar?)
https://lmurailsplitters.com/sports/mens-basketball/roste...

Wes Enis, Lincoln Memorial (D2). From Conover, OH. 6'2 and averaged 20ppg while earning Conference Defensive Player of the Year.
https://lmurailsplitters.com/sports/mens-basketball/roste...

Drayton Jones, South Carolina State. 6'11. Averaged 13ppg and 6rpg and 2bpg. 1st Team All-MEAC. Exactly what we need, but I feel like he gets paid for a bigger leap.
https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/...

Yassine Gharram, Yale. 6'3. He only played in 8 games this season. 6ppg and 6rpg.
https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/...

Ethan Duncan, Lubbock Christian/Texas Tech. 6'0 and 17ppg while earning LSC POY and 1st Team All-Conference
https://lcuchaps.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/ethan-...

I find the staff following 3 guards who recently entered interesting.

Two observations on Drayton Jones.

Former Vandy coach Stackhouse offered him out of high school. (must play defense)

Presumably he is academically strong which opens up all sorts of options for him.

If we have to compete with Vandy, Wake Forest, Northwestern, etc = not a chance.

Yea, I think he's out of reach. Just reading the tea leaves, it's likely anyone we add over 6'5 is coming from D2.

Looking at some dudes in the portal and this guy has solid rate stats after two years at FIU: https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/okechukwu-ok...

Only played 7 games this year, but per 40 in 32 games at FIU averages 14/10/3.

These are the kind of D1 transfers I think we (among other mid-majors) have a shot at. From the Midwest originally -- specifically East Chicago.

This kid played high school ball at Western Reserve Academy in Ohio. Great per 40 minute stats. Seemed like he was great in games when he played 15+ minutes, but was rarely used down the stretch. New Hampshire was bad, bad this year though.

Add Nolan Dorsey of Campbell (6’6) and Josh Ogundule (7’1) Tennessee State to list of recent portal entrants that staff follows.

Ogundule is a big boy at 275, he’s been around the block with stops at Iowa and MTSU. Coming off his best year at 7ppg and 4rpg. I wonder how good of game shape he’s in, since he only eclipsed 20 mins 8 times all year but started 20 games.

Per 40 stats show 18ppg and 11rpg FWIW.

https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/stats...

Dorsey also had a few stops at New Mexico and Holy Cross. Won CAA DPOY. Per 40 mins bumps him up to 11ppg, 8rpg, and 2 spg.

https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/...

Edit — Riley Mulvey of Iowa. 6’11, only played 7mpg. Per 40 mins shows 12ppg/11rpg/2bg

You guys realize these folks can still make NIL. And before you go all whiny, Kurtis Rourke got a lot of NIL. Our international footballer gets NIL. So the notion that foreigners are ineligible for it is simply false. They can’t earn money while here, but they can do that work when they go home for summer or breaks.

A guy buried on the bench at a power conference program. Not named Wiznitzer.

This is ideal. #PossibleUpgrade

**BTW...Lincoln Memorial is a top D-2 program re: the 20ppg guy
