I live in a town of 4,000. i grew up in a town of 3,500 where 30 percent of the people were Anabaptists and the land was flatter than Russ Eisenstein’s stomach and my telephone line was shared with my neighbor’s...IN NINETEEN NINETY.

I can call any damn town Mayberry I want because I am a lifelong Mayberrian.

Athens was a metropolis to me at age 18. So bleep off with your accusations. I make fun of EVERYBODY. Because we’re flawed, goofy little creatures and self-deprecation is one of humanity’s greatest gifts.

I wouldn’t live in a bougie suburb if someone put a gun to my head (believe me my wife has tried to convince me of Carmel, Indiana, for a while now...now it’s my turn to try to convince her to live off the grid at some point....) But I don’t begrudge anyone who does. Jeff Boals sn’t going to stay or leave Athens because ya’ll aren’t worldly enough. He might leave because someone backs a Brinks truck up to his driveway, but coaches who llived in Athens left for that, too.

Small town America is officially as thin skinned as its cities now.

Yay.

The Athens News today published one of those Athens Voice drive-by call-in statements saying that Jeff Boals is living in New Albany. Any truth to this? Or is this in the same category as McDavis living in Lancaster and flying a helicopter to the Albany Airport every morning?

You are why this website needs a whacking off emoji.

That a simple question gets this kind of over-the-top, emotional and somewhat crazy response is quite telling.

Actually the entire concept of this thread is over-the-top, emotional and crazy. hence self-pleasuring emoji.

Asking a question based on this week's Athens News' Athens Voice is "over-the-top, emotional and crazy"?  We have now officially entered Htrae.  I'd like a Bizarro World emoticon.  In the meantime, this will have to do!

Anybody know what kind of car Jeff Boals drives? If it's not a Toyota Camry, I'm going to be disappointed.
If he doesn’t drive a car manufactured in Athens county from parts made in Athens county using machine tools made in Athens county, then some locals will be disappointed

ROTFL . . . good one.

However, I don't think Jeff would fit into a King Midget!

Living outside of town and commuting increases Jeff Boals’ carbon footprint. Ohio University should mandate that all employees live in Athens to help stop climate change. Think of the Polar Bears.

You mean he doesn't live in the Convo dorms?

Tom Thibodeau would definitely live in the arena he coached if given that option.

He’s a basketball hobo.

You had a bad take, you doubled down on it, you don't get to criticize the reaction. Take the L.

You can’t be critical then see that criticism go over like a lead ballon and then change the narrative. That’s not how things work.

This may come as a complete shock to you, but you don't write the rules either.

Nope but funny others slap you around with the same sentiment but it’s me you love. Again, just because you were nappining on the park bench waiting on your shuttle, does not mean any of this was actual news. And even better to use as your source a total hack job like the ANews voice who’s is so random and often filled with BS. I’d think a person with journalistic training would know the pitfalls of this. And yes, you claimed your disappointment/dissatisfaction, to Jeff and Bob, that’s fine. The good news is it’s warming up so you can go tell the neighbors children to get off your lawn.

Interesting response in that strangely enough the ANews comment was correct. And now disappointment is "fine" when previously one disappointed was an asshole. But if there has been intellectual growth since yesterday I applaud you. Time to focus on winning, Go Bobcats.

Upon further reflection, Boals can live in Calcutta if he keeps coaching and recruiting like he's doing. I understand that they now have a way to teleport him to Athens instantaneously using new technology developed by the OHIO College of Engineering. I, therefore, respectfully withdraw all my objections. Now returning this channel to regularly scheduled ranting and raving by the usual suspects.

I have more important things to talk about like the NCAA tournament, a BIG BOBCAT win, and getting to the Sweet 16!

I had a position at one time in Brentwood TN at Tractor Supply Company home office and several times it took almost two hours to go 17 miles to get home back into the next non-Nashville/Davidson county from there. Sometimes it took 30 minutes to get out of the Maryland Farms office park area it was located in. Commutes these days are more relevant based on time, not distance. Ask people who live in a suburban county outside of Atlanta, Charlotte, Nashville, Austin, Dallas, etc.

Besides, I had Eagles Pizza (New Albany) for the first time a couple of years ago on my last Ohio trip and it was really good. My weight and cholesterol would have an issue if I lived near Eagles... but New Albany looked like a great place to live.

As far a Boals having to commute... you can't fault the results. Just ask Toledo, Buffalo, and now former defending national champs Virginia.
