Anybody know what kind of car Jeff Boals drives? If it's not a Toyota Camry, I'm going to be disappointed.
This is Ohio. It better be an Accord.

I’m calling Bullshit here OCF! Bob Bolden spent 5 years living in Chillicothe and you never said shit.
Just to clarify.....does he live in Chilli or Southeastern? Asking for some friends.....
He no longer lives in Chillicothe, but when he rides his motorcycle he always wears his helmet.

The Athens News today published one of those Athens Voice drive-by call-in statements saying that Jeff Boals is living in New Albany. Any truth to this? Or is this in the same category as McDavis living in Lancaster and flying a helicopter to the Albany Airport ever morning?
I’m calling Bullshit here OCF! Bob spent 5 years living in Chillicothe and you never said shit. Now Boals lives out of town due to family considerations and it matters for boys coaches and not girls. Sorry. That don’t fly! Do what’s best for your family! Has Coach Boals done anything that shows he’s not committed! No offense but you are out of line.
Bob Bolden? For me, I did not know he lived in Chilli and I would have expressed the same disappointment as I have for Boals. I can't speak for your best buddy OCF.
And you’d be an asshole for expressing that. Living an hour a way was best for him and his family. Same with Jeff. Don’t judge anyone from your shoes to there’s.
Rhetoric here is getting a little out of hand. Yes, I said that I would be disappointed if Boals doesn't move to Athens when his daughter graduates. I do understand that his daughter wanted to finish high school where she had been before he went to Stony Brook. I also said that I knew a lot of others who would feel the same way. I didn't say that I would disown the Bobcats or want Jeff fired. I just said that I would be disappointed. I didn't know about Bob, or I would have expressed the same thoughts. Can't Grover and I have a different opinion than yours without being called names?

He’s got more children than a daughter. Way to be open minded.

I don't remember what his wife does for a living but if I recall she has a high salary type of career. She might have a job with the same employer in the Columbus area that she once had as well. I remember wondering if she was planning on commuting to Columbus when Boals was hired. There is likely more to this than just his kids attending the same HS.

Interesting that posters poke fun at the conversation by bringing up cars, should we be surprised that smart people might be worrying about the amount of time we spend in them?

This is silly off-season drivel that's getting brought up the day before Jeff Boals coaches the biggest game of his life to date. This is why we can't have nice things.

There are more people to consider, but since they didn’t belong to the play Army recreating the OHIO 78 they didn’t matter. Sorry, you done crossed the line! First, his living condition was addressed here when he got hired, Bob’s has been addressed here. It really doesn’t matter. My boss has a daughter who doesn’t shop in the business he runs. It’s called personal choice, which is called America! Just because you don’t like it! Well Boo F-Ing hoo!

As I stated in a post back somewhere in this thread, I am glad Coach Boals and his family have this arrangement that seems to work for them and hopefully this arrangement will continue for a long time. My fear being if his family likes more cosmopolitan areas, they might be wooed to other places, and oh by the way, he could make many times more the salary he makes at our beloved Alma mater.

However, I want to stick up for Ohio Cat Fan and those who might feel slighted that the head coach lives in New Albany (night and day difference from Albany!) Just put yourselves in their shoes for a moment and imagine you are reading quotes like "Mayberry." It could be construed as being condescending. Do the same folks who poke fun at people in small towns, poke fun at people who live in urban areas? I hope we can understand why Ohio Cat Fan and others might feel the way they do.

If he’d have ac5ually understood and payed attention, Boals is the least of that surprise, he’ll your baseball coach owned a home in Arizona for the last 5 months before he retired.

Boals grew up in Magnolia (there's literally one stop light last time I checked) and went to college in Athens. I'm pretty sure he gets the small town thing. I really don't understand why people would feel slighted by this.

If Boals is gonna be wooed by a bigger school in a metropolitan area, where he currently lives is the least of our problems.

I encourage you guys to listen to an episode of Split Zone Duo. It's a podcast run by college football writers and they go in deep dives about this kind of stuff. The coaches RARELY make any of the decisions when it comes to housing. Usually that's all put on the wife while he gets the program running. If she works in Columbus and they love the New Albany area for their kids, I'm all for it. And frankly, Boals living close to Columbus isn't a bad thing. He's closer to recruiting circles and media markets where he can promote the Ohio brand.

I live in a town of 4,000. i grew up in a town of 3,500 where 30 percent of the people were Anabaptists and the land was flatter than Russ Eisenstein’s stomach and my telephone line was shared with my neighbor’s...IN NINETEEN NINETY.

I can call any damn town Mayberry I want because I am a lifelong Mayberrian.

Athens was a metropolis to me at age 18. So bleep off with your accusations. I make fun of EVERYBODY. Because we’re flawed, goofy little creatures and self-deprecation is one of humanity’s greatest gifts.

I wouldn’t live in a bougie suburb if someone put a gun to my head (believe me my wife has tried to convince me of Carmel, Indiana, for a while now...now it’s my turn to try to convince her to live off the grid at some point....) But I don’t begrudge anyone who does. Jeff Boals sn’t going to stay or leave Athens because ya’ll aren’t worldly enough. He might leave because someone backs a Brinks truck up to his driveway, but coaches who llived in Athens left for that, too.

Small town America is officially as thin skinned as its cities now.

Yay.

I remember reading shortly after he was hired that he would be living in the Columbus area due to one of his children having medical issues, and they wanted to be close to a wider range of medical services.

I lived in New Albany from 2001-2010. My daughter attended New Albany schools and that educational experience helped her be more than ready for college. It's a great town in the northeast suburb of Columbus to raise a family.
His personal choice of where to live was the right choice for his family. He probably has an apartment in Athens. It take between 1.5-2.0 hours to drive from New Albany to Athens, as I have made that drive many times during my time in New Albany.
His choice of where to live has not negatively impacted the performance of our team.

That a simple question gets this kind of over-the-top, emotional and somewhat crazy response is quite telling.
