I love this team, too. Hopefully we can run it back next year, but we'll see what happens.

I'm actually shocked it was as close as it was, given the cold shooting from BVP and Preston. Thinking back about it last night and this morning, we lost that game in the last few minutes of the 1st half. That run Creighton put on us when we went cold and they knocked down shots to bump the lead to 15 from about 3 was just too much to overcome. It was a great ride, great run, lots of positive memories about this team and this season!

This team is only missing its Nick Kellogg, a deadeye shooter you can count on to hit 3-4 three-pointers in key situations.
No disrespect to Nick, but Ben Roderick is already with us in that role and I'd take him over Nick 10 times out of 10.

Assuming no one leaves, we're not getting more rim protection. We need some bench guys to step up and command a spot in this rotation. Sam Towns has potential, can he rise to it now? Jalen White might be our best shooter, but can he put the rest of his game together? Can someone in the Rifen, Colin, Nolan group raise his game and give us more?
Ben over Nick 10 times out of 10? Not sure I agree with that.

In my opinion we lost the game in the first ten minutes. We go up 5-0 and Creighton couldn't fire it into the ocean for the first six minutes. We make some shots during this stretch to go up something like 14-4 and we can withstand the inevitable run that Creighton was going to make. Not extending the lead up 5-0 early was a killer during that stretch.

Yes. I'll specify that I'm comparing sophomore Nick to sophomore Ben. While Nick was a better three point shooter by percentage, Ben has a better overall shooting percentage, better scoring average, and took a much higher percentage of his shot attempts from inside the arc.

+1. The door was wide open for some separation those first few minutes.

I was cautiously optimistic for the first ten minutes. We played OK, had some bad turnovers, but it felt like it was going to be a nail biter.

Then Creighton had some huge dunks and their offense went on a tear. Our offense never found a groove. Way too many empty possessions and mistakes. If we would have hit 5 more FTs in the 1st half suddenly the 9 pt deficit we faced w/ 2 mins left could have been only 4pts.

Another glowing review of the Bobcats and Jeff Boals this morning from Bishop and Laurenaitis on 97.1 the Fan. It still amazes me the love we get from these two when the station is practically run by Ohio State. Beau Bishop was talking about his young kids playing basketball on the driveway yesterday before the game pretending to be Bobcat players, and wearing green preparing for the game. This type of publicity is priceless.

Coach Boals is building something. I know I am quite the optimist but as I said in another thread, if he stays with his recrutiing expertise and coaching bona fides, dare I say a Midwest version of Gonzaga?

Boals has an 850k buyout if he takes another position before April 1st 2021. After 4/1/21 he doesn't have a buyout so he has to be extended and resigned.

One model the athletic department could use is give him a raise but also sign him to a longer term contract with a bigger buyout attached. Northern Iowa did this with Ben Jacobsen. They are paying him 900k through March 31, 2027 but the buyout is huge, 30% of the remaining contract (6,300,000). That is a 1.9 million dollar buyout which amounts to over 2 years of salary back.

What if they could take Boals to 725k with a 3 year extension? Six remaining years (4.35 million) and the buyout was 50% of the remaining contract value. A buyout of 2.175 million would be 3x his salary that OU gets paid by the next school if he leaves after next season.

He could do something no Ohio coach has done in the modern era, stick around long enough to make the NCAAs 3 times.

First, I think some really bad turnovers hurt us. Second, Creighton exposed our lack of athletic bigs. We did not finish above the rim. And we couldn’t guard their bigs. In the end we defended the three poorly. Went behind too many screens and left too many shooters wide-open. I think we could all find 14 points on very dumb passes and poor shot selection. All and all a good year with high hopes for the future.

Having a football team hampers us from ever becoming anything close to that. However, I could easily see Ohio being closer to a Wichita State type program if we made the investment to do so, but I don't see that happening either.

The only thing that hampers this program is that 70% of the alums who were making all kinds of noise the last couple weeks won't be heard from again for years.

Agreed, and Ben once healthy started getting to the rim and slashing some. Something Nick couldn’t or didn’t do as a sophomore. Ben also has better size.

Not only the alums, but what about the students celebrating on Court St. Saturday night? Those that can fall out of bed, walk 10 or 15 minutes, and be in the Convo in January/February of 2022 or 2023?

At some point the program has to turn those empty bleachers into chairback seats for season ticket holders if the students don’t start using them, right?

They’ve abdicated their rights to premium seats at this point. Stick them in the second level bowl seats and give all the season ticket holders lower bowl seats.
