81-65 win. Some good minutes in 4th from the younger Hale, looking forward to seeing more of her. I believe we will play the winner of Charlotte-UMass. Go Bobcats.

I'm so confused. Didn't we lose yesterday?

This tournament has a losers' bracket, even though it's not a true double elimination tournament. Monday, if we beat the winner of the UMass/Charlotte to be played later today, we will be in the losers' bracket championship game. If we win, we should host a new banner in the Convo -- WNIT Losers Bracket Championship! [There's a tad bit of sarcasm somewhere in this post.]

You do know Erica has been playing on a very bad knee. She has gutted out every minute on the floor. I sure hope she comes back

Very nice to have both the women's and men's team still playing in March. Good luck on both games, but hoping that our women can pull off the win. It will be a current MAC coach against a former MAC women's coach.

Speculation that she might be out because of contact tracing. Just someone's guess, I think. Not based inside knowledge, as far as I know.

UMass head coach Tory Verdi was Eastern Michigan's HC for several years, including in 2015 when his team lost to the Bobcats in the MAC championship game. I wonder if he's still sore.

The other MAC team in this tournament is also 1-1. Bowling Green lost in the first round to Creighton, then rebounded to defeat Dayton from the A-10. The Falcons play Monday against Drake.

The game against UMass is scheduled for 4:00 P.M. today. UMass is billing their remaining team as the "Savage Seven", since only seven have played since late in the season. This appears to be a result of internal team problems, and not COVID or injury.

The seven made a nice run through the A-10 tourney, winning three games in as many days before losing in the finals to VCU. They were blown out by Villanova in their first WNIT game, then rebounded to beat Charlotte. They are currently 15-8 overall. The only common opponent with Ohio is Fordham, who UMass defeated twice.

UMass led the A-10 is ppg with 71.1, and was second in forcing turnovers at 16.9. They are led by Sam Breen, a 6'1" senior who was first team A-10, averaging over 17 ppg, and Destiny Philoxy, a 5'7" junior who made the second team. She is 10th in the nation with 6.5 apg.

I believe this will be the final game of the season for Ohio, win or lose. I don't see anything on the WNIT website that indicates that the regional consolation winners will play next weekend in connection with the WNIT final four.

The game with UMass was, unfortunately, the most uninspired, lackluster game I've seen in a long, long time. We looked like we really didn't want to be there. This surprised me, because we played relatively well in the first losers' bracket game against Fordham. Maybe I'm not giving enough credit to UMass, but I really didn't think they were as good as we made them look. I'm not going to say anything about individual performances by name, but a few of our ladies seemed less dialed in than others, in terms of my observations. Time to turn the page, and look toward next year. If CeCe and Erica both come back, we should have a very good team with an improved Mace and some other good returners and promising freshmen.
