First Bobcat. Don't think he'll be the last.

should be a couple more guys if they want to play College basketball. May not actually happen at Ohio University. Read today that the Portal has over 1000 athletes and should be at 1200 by the Final Four. 300 schools going to absorb all those bodies? Division II may be loaded next year.

Some could end up at NAIA schools or maybe giving up on hoops. It's tough to be the hometown hero that put up huge numbers in high school and then turn into a pumpkin against big-time D-1 opposition. For every Jason Preston or Garrison Mathews (was more known for football in high school, now plays in the NBA) there are a thousand former local high school "stars" who never get near that in D-1 ball. Sometimes not in D-2 either.

**Obviously Preston was not a star in h.s. - everybody knows the story.

***If there had been a portal, Bevo Francis would have ended up in it.

Majority of portal folks have ended up in D2 or JUCO in recent years.

I wish Mason well and hope he finds a program that he thrives in.

Hate when it doesn’t work out, but this is best case scenario for Ohio and Mason. Bobcats get a fresh schollie to use for next year and hopefully Mason can find a way to get a few minutes with a D2 or NAIA program next year.

Whenever Mason got PT he really showed some great toughness and energy. Wish him well wherever he ends up.

McMurray is one of those guys that got the most out of his talent by toughness. I wish him well. Seeing how he had already been passed on the depth chart by younger guys and we had only one senior on scholarship, it is not a blow to the program. It will give the staff another scholarship to actually have some true freshmen on the roster next year.

Spent a beautiful March Saturday in Athens visiting my daughter. Most of the time was spent on Court St. where a couple of her friends mentioned Mason leaving and that word was another player or two would join him in the portal. No names were mentioned. But like most of you, I can guess.

I think there have been plenty of discussions here in various threads as to the guys who are not going to get playing time. There would be fans with opinions better than mine that would offer their views up.

You'd be interested in a new Court St. restaurant my daughter had been telling me about. I wasn't sure if she was saying a "new Mexican" or a "New Mexican" place next door to Courtside. Turns out it is new with Mexican dishes. Food was good, service not so much.

I get that and I know we live in a different world of college hoops with the portal. However, are guys like Towns, White and Miguel willing to bolt after one year? I could see the Brown twin who doesn't play moving on, but does he want to leave his brother? Foster I think has a real chance to contribute some solid minutes next year. Sears knows he has the keys once Preston leaves. BVP isn't going anywhere. Obviously, I wouldn't be surprised by more departures, but I don't see it being as cut and dry.

I suspect Mason was "invited" to enter the portal. Thinking the second Brown and even Towns will be as well.

Ted Thompson's updated Grid is a good follow. I was surprised to see Murrell still there in 21. Does that open up?

Agree and don't have a problem with that. Seems like both parties are on the same page. Mason wants to play and it won't happen at Ohio and it most likely won't happen again on the D-1 level. Hope he finds success at a lower level of a ball where his skills will translate better. The key moving forward is avoiding swings and misses. And yes, I know Boals didn't recruit Mason.

Don't see why Towns needs to be thrown on the garbage heap so soon.

I don't see why any of the scholarship players remaining would be on the garbage heap. Nobody looked out of place when they got on the floor. Obviously, some of the younger guys need to get stronger and develop but this team seems almost like an "old-school" team where you had guys wait their chance and shine as Juniors and Seniors. Very rarely see players willing to let that happen anymore so who knows if it will. But I would be very surprised if Boals is inviting anybody that is left to seek another opportunity somewhere else.

Rife already has his juco time and may not want a change. Towns will be fine with some muscle. White will be a major shooter in 2 years. I can see Miles being content with his role. Dude is a perfect sub with energy!!!

Observing the bench and all the energy over there on TV, we would think most of those guys who were part of this would be happy going along for the ride. Seems like they embraced the journey and roles of athletic supporters really well.

I so agree with White coming into his own in the future as well. What little we saw of him this year we can kind of get a feel that he has some good potential.

Really, really hard for a mid major to build that kind of "old school" program any more with the changes in transferring and recruiting, but maybe not impossible. Still, I think any mid major that wants to be successful has to prepare to have transfers and to also bring in transfers. It's the new landscape and I don't see any way around it.

As was discussed in another thread, Sears is KEY, and I don't mean to make a play on words about your thought about the keys.

He's easily one of the 4-5 best players on this team, and needs to be playing starters minutes next year, which I would assume we'll see.
