I don't know if teams are allowed (or do anyway) to tell prospects "we won't let you go past our pick at #__," but I'd like to think Jay has some strong indications that he WILL get drafted.

If not, he wouldn't be the first to get bad advice.

From all the things I’ve seen and the teams I’ve seen bring him in for a workout, I’ll be very surprised if he isn’t off the board somewhere in the mid-20’s to the 40’s.

I predict that JP plays more NBA games than any OHIO player other than Gary Trent.

This is going to be an unpopular post but, whatever.

The last two updated mock drafts I looked at...
One had JP going mid-2nd round and...
The other had him undrafted.

Look, if he ends up undrafted, remember that his last game in college was 4 points in 40 minutes on 1-10 shooting. It would be a shame for NBA scouts to put so much weight on one game but you never know.

It'll be unpopular because it's silly. You think his last game is what NBA scouts will be focused on and not his whole body of work which also included an 11 point, 13 rebound, 8 assist performance against one of the best defensive teams in the country or his 31 point, 6 rebound, 8 assists against #1 seed Illinois or his MAC Tournament MVP Performance or his solid performance at the NBA draft combine. And I see you carefully omitted that he had 9 rebounds and 7 assists in that last game of his.

And mid-2nd round will be just fine. It's very possible that's where he'll go but that will give him the shot he'll need and I'm guessing he'll be okay with that.

I watched every minute of the Illinois game when it was on the tube live.

This is just a warning to not freak out if for some reason he slips through the cracks and has to sign as a free agent. He is going to have to play in the summer league and prove himself either way. Unless a guy is an all-out athletic physical specimen like Xavier Tillman, there are very few instant guarantees about being picked in the second round.

If he goes undrafted (he won't) he could actually return to school as long as he notified the Athletic Director by 5 PM the Monday following the draft. Doesn't matter if he signed with an agent or not.

If that's the case, I wonder if there's a connection between that and whether Lukas Frazier commits. Like, maybe he commits on the condition that Jason is not drafted.

I would be very surprised if he is not drafted at this point.

Nbadraft.net just put him at #44 in their latest mock. They also did a lengthy write up on him here if interested.

Thanks for the link. Very good in depth analysis - and pretty spot on all around.

OUs LONG Driver posted that if he is not drafted he could return.
Where do the rules state this as a fact? I never heard about this rule before.
Please clarify?

I was under the impression that only applied if they did NOT hire an agent, but I could be wrong on that.

Don't know if this is definitive, but it says, yes, undrafted players can return to college, even if they have had an agent.

yup - takes much of the risk out of play. Perfect for someone like Preston (though he will be drafted and get guaranteed money)

Been wild to see the mock draft projections from many reputable NBA writers and sites. I've seen anywhere from 26-51. Hopefully it's closer to 26.

Good luck JP!

I looked at one last night I didn't like that had him falling late 2nd to New Orleans. I don't want to stay up that late tonight. Big night for Jay, I'm excited to see where he lands!

With Draft Day upon us, here are some final projections....gasp....predictions from various publications:

CBS - #51 to New Orleans (note: NO just traded the 53rd pick to philly
https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/nba-mock-draft-2021-co... /

SI - #38 to the Bulls
https://www.si.com/nba/2021/07/26/nba-mock-draft-2021-lat...

Yahoo - #55 to OKC
https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/2021-nba-mock-draft-f...

Lines - #43 to New Orleans
https://www.lines.com/nba/drafts/round2

Bleacher Report - #42 to Detroit
https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2945939-post-nba-fina...

NBADraft.Net - #40 to Memphis
https://www.nbadraft.net/nba-mock-drafts/?year-mock=2021

Yahoo Hoop Hype Aggregate - #38
https://hoopshype.com/lists/nba-mock-draft-consensus-pred... /

Either he gets drafted (as predicted) and grabs some guaranteed money or gets slighted and comes back to Athens with a HUGE chip on his shoulder.

Either way - Great Day To Be A Bobcat!!!

Good Luck Jason!!!
