How about Ohio's week?! Bobcats beat Belmont and Cleveland State --- two favorites in their respective leagues --- back-to-back by double figures. There is indeed life in Athens after Jason Preston.— Jon Rothstein (@JonRothstein) https://twitter.com/JonRothstein/status/14597034394039828...
Gotta love that! I'll be trying to make the most noise possible Monday night!

Anyone else smelling a few top 25 votes this week? Let's keep it rolling. And did I see a picture of Boals at the Bobcat Bash in Cleveland a few hours before the game? This dude gets it....he loves Ohio and its fanbase and I love it.

I hope we do garner a few votes! That would be huge. When's the last time we were ranked?

Messy first half by both teams, bobcats cleaned it up after a bit in the second. Always answered back whenever cleveland scored. Good strong finish.

For anyone in attendance, how was the turnout for the bobcats there?
Bobcats turnout was great - I estimate 25-30% total attendance. Though not much noise....

Final poll of the 2012 season, after the tournament ended. We clocked in at 25. The one that matters most, but the least fun.

I can’t believe this!!! We should’ve won by 20. Fire Boals.
Let's wait and see how he does against Concordia.
Send in the clowns.
Sorry but the clowns are already here, not excluding myself in that, either.

Nobody has commented about the defense. This may be the best defensive effort I can recall. That’s how you beat a good team when your shooting is off. That and the emergence of Miles Brown and Townes. Tommy Schmock definitely belongs as does the big freshman (blocking on his name). We really could have something special. this year.

I doubt Cleveland State will be as good as people suspected at the beginning of the season, but that is still a really encouraging win. Taking care of business on the road is, at least to me, more impressive than the Belmont win. Especially when we had what was probably our “C” game, we were still in control the entire time and our defense locked them down completely. I am very encouraged for the upcoming few games.

I like our rotations. I like Sears getting rest and being fresh for the final minutes. BVP/Schmock/Towns/McDay/Clayton held their own. Defense is at mid-season level, good helping. Chucked too many threes maybe but I like 8 guys getting at least 1. Offense moves and moves the ball. This team is going to be fun to watch.

Carter can really jump!

While sloppy, give some credit to the corner traps the Vickings employed and the refs letting both teams play. My biggest take away was that the on floor product seemed very comfortable playing together. The ball movement for the 2nd game was acceptable and the mates were looking for the open man while not being afraid to take the open shot.

The defensive effort was acceptable with guys fighting through picks instead of simply switching and causing the mismatch the opponent was seeking.

My only view was a couple of forced shots and floating three pointers when there was actually a higher percentage stable shot available.

But good rebounding and good team play won the evening. It was a treat to be in Cleveland a few months before March and well, CSU should be a permanent schedule fixture to go along with Kent and Akron so we up north can enjoy OUr Bobcats as much as you Townies.

There was nothing flashy, extraordinary, or really even pretty about it.

We played solidly "meh", against a good team, on the road, and still won by double digits. And to be honest it really felt like, if we ever REALLY wanted to, the lead could have been 20 at any moment...though we never got there (think biggest lead was 18 @ 57-39). That's saying something.

On offense, our efficiency was decent overall and we passed the ball really well, though we oddly struggled from within the arc.

22 assists on 24 made FG (92%).
7 of 10 from FT (1.400 Pts/2 shots)
12 of 32 from 2PT (0.750 Pts/shot)
12 of 31 from 3PT (1.161 Pts/shot)
Overall 31 of 73 (Only 42.5% - but 0.918 Pts/shot)

We out-rebounded them by 7, to be expected.

The biggest thing was our defense and CSU's complete inability to hit shots.

They were:
10 of 19 from FT (1.053 Pts/2 shots)
17 of 36 from 2PT (0.944 Pts/shot)
4 of 19 from 3PT (0.632 Pts/shot)
Overall 31 of 74 (41.9% - 0.757 Pts/shot)

We shared the ball and hit our 3s and FT and they didn't. That was basically the story. Good road win. Looking forward to another Horizon opponent in Bobby Mo.

My big takeaway from this game, other than we are a much better team than Cleveland St, was the game from Sam Towns. This happened a few times last year but a guy may sit the bench an entire game but the next game he plays major minutes. Not sure if this is Jeff Boals' way of reading matchups or just making sure everyone is mentally ready to go every game but it works.

Frustrating at times, but very workmanlike. A game we’d quite often lose in the past decade.

It seems like the difference night to night on Ohio’s ceiling may be how well Carter shoots the three. If he’s hitting it, the opposing defense is screwed. If it’s not there we’ll have to work a little harder.

If memory serves Mr Carter hit 29% of his 3's last season.

I saw Coach Boals state in a presser that JC was instructed not to shoot again if he missed his first shot by XU coach(es). That could explain a few things...

It appears, after the 1st 2 games, that Boals subs at the 12 minutes mark with 3-4 fresh legs, and back to the starters at the 7 minute mark.
So we have an 8-9 man rotation, nice to see this early in the season.
The team seem relaxed and even when the opposition starts to make a run we do not tighten up, but rather continues to play loose.

Anyone notice the two crushing, Boals-signature picks that Ben set in the second half. Very reminiscent of his coach and the two kids who ran into him will remember them.

Towns was the "wow" for me in this game. I had high expectations for our existing roster but watching him for the first time left me thinking we are going to be very, very good moving forward.
