How long do we see Coach Boals in Athens?
I saw him Saturday night in Athens.
Awesome..thank you
I know he really loves the custard at Whit's!

Seriously, I agree with some of the other posters that he may be the rare bird who sticks around to see how far he can take his alma mater -- perhaps, in the same mold as the new football coach at NIU, who just out and out says he plans to be there until they fire him, which after his first week doesn't look likely any time soon! ;-)

I wonder if we should start with a MAC regular season championship and work our way up to national championship? Maybe try to duplicate our NCAA tournament run with a team that didn't completely luck into an NBA talent who somehow the rest of college basketball missed?

Think we may just be a smidge ahead of ourselves here.
I don't understand.

This message board has never done anything like that before. 😂😂

I'd like to think that coach Boals is gonna be one of those rare coaches to break the mold and see how far he can take his alma mater. This assumes he'll be able to take recruiting to even a higher level. Sooo, if he can get the ballers, why not try to win here? I mean an NCAA championship, or at least see how close he can get. That's IF he can recruit the horses.

Can't that be said for both sides?? I bet if you ask JP...he'll say that he "lucked" into having Jeff Boals as his head coach the last two seasons. If I remember correctly, didn't the previous coaching staff have a love affair with a PG who averaged 7 TO's per game JP freshman year? I think it's safe to say that Boals and his staff did one hell of a job developing Preston after his freshman year. Yeah, they were both "lucky".

I agree. And, I'll add that I think JP will be very supportive of the program as an alumnus. From various statements he's made he appears to be very grateful the change he was given at OHIO. [Does anyone know how many more credits he needs to graduate?]

Given recent news, I think we need to worry about losing Boals to Gonazaga.

I'm not clear on why you interpreted what I said to mean that Jason Preston didn't like playing for Jeff Boals. Nothing I said implied that.

My point's simply that NBA talent doesn't roll through Athens all that often, and we had NBA talent on our roster last year. We won't next year. And because of that, the poster suggesting that Jeff Boals should try and win a national championship in Athens may be a tad bit overzealous.

There's a whole lot of surface area between winning an NCAA tournament game with a PG who leaves early for the NBA draft, and national championship. Nothing about that observation is a reflection on Jason Preston's feelings about Jeff Boals.

I did not interpret it that way at all. Of course, Preston loved playing for Boals. Yes…there was luck with Preston being NBA talent, but he become NBA talent after two years of coaching with Boals. Preston wasn’t NBA ready the day Boals met him at his introductory presser.

Obviously it's never a good time for THAT kind of news about Few, but man I didn't even notice this. It was buried under football talk.

Maybe I'm being optimistic, but:

1.Few's DUI hasn't gotten a lot of attention on sports talk out here.
But, the people who have talked about it, think Few has a better then
better then 50/50 chance of Gonzaga keeping him, at least for this season.

2.Given his tenure there, if they do fire him, they may stay "in house"
for their next coach.

3.Given the status of their program, if Few does go, they may want
a "name".
Of course that could start a domino effect.

3.I know money talks, but Gonzaga is a long way from Ohio.
I also don't know how well Boals can recruit out there.

Last, but not least, I have me fingers crossed and my rabbit's foot
out. :-)

+1

You have to understand the culture at Gonzaga. He will be forgiven and life will go on. I will be very surprised if he's fired or doesn't have his contracted renewed.

Coach Few needs to hire Sam Shamansky to handle his case.

Right now, I would guess he does not want to move his family again. I maintain we must closely watch OSU and hope they stay mediocre. I think for the next few years while his kids are still not quite grown, that might be the only job he bolts for. After that, the sky is the limit.

This is confusing the article both says he's suspended for three games and then that he'll be back for the second game.

Boals with some National pub. We didn't make the Power Rankings but Jeff was tabbed as the Coach of the Week.

That would be crazy to have an Ohio Alum. coach Duke someday.

The University and Alumni base MUST do whatever it takes to support and retain Coach Boals. If we can't cough up a couple million a year than we don't deserve to have a high caliber, long-term head coach.
