Heard on 700 WLW last week, that only 300 athletes in the portal last year actually went/stayed DI scholarship. Lots of downward movement, lot more than upward movement.

Most go D2 or JUCO.

So with McMurray, Foster, Miguel and White transferring out and Carter in, where are we on spots?
If Schmock is on scholarship and Preston returns, we are full. If Preston is drafted and Schmock is a walk on, we have two open spots.
At this point, you'd have to imagine he's not a walk on, but who knows. I have to believe that there is transfer news to come in the coming weeks. The coaching staff has to have been well prepared for the potential of JP leaving. It's just a matter of who they can add to the team at this point.

Why do we need a transfer, short timer for PG? Sears is more than capable, Miles Brown can play, team chemistry has to be an important ingredient and getting buy in. Trust the process.

Depth? I agree, Sears is really good. But we're also a rolled ankle from having to run with Miles Brown as the starting PG with...Schmock as backup? I've seen enough injuries the past few years to not have a problem with stockpiling depth at key positions.

If you have not paid attention to the transfer portal, it's not like you stack talent on talent with folks waiting their turn to play. It is what it is. Brown is a great kid, loves OHIO, loves his teammates, and if he's in an emergency situation, I'm good, because the kid can play a little and will always give you 100%.

It's not a matter of adding another PG. It's taking advantage of the post season run and Jason Preston being in the draft to sign a good player of any position, but hopefully a wing or small forward, from the portal, JUCO or high school. I understand that chemistry has to be a priority. As a fan, I've always been uncomfortable with holding on to scholarships.

Assuming Schmock is on scholarship (which I have no problem with that being the case), I'd like to see us go after a young shooting guard with the last scholarship. That's where I think our depth is the weakest. Are all transfers immediately eligible at the moment? I'm not sure on that. A transfer with three or four years of eligibility remaining would be perfect (and there are plenty available in the portal) or if somehow a decent rising freshman is still undecided.

I think all transfers are eligible immediately.

I stumbled upon news that Marvin Price signed with Western Carolina.

Plus, he’s the best defender on the team.

who is "he" and who annointed him the Best? I am far enough away I can't see or tell who is the best. I know I was impressed with BOTH Sears and Brown but I do not know that I have enough of a view to pronounce either one "best".

Brown is he and it’s a personal opinion but he’s shown that he can be the best on the team defensively

Miles Brown is “he” and it’s more of a personal opinion. From the games I’ve watched, he’s an excellent on ball defender.

Players coming in > players leaving. . . not only for OUr Bobcats but for the MAC overall.
Adding validity to above inequality: EMU just got a transfer who was a 4-star recruit out of high school.
I’ve kind of lost track. So how many 1-3 team all MAC players and all freshmen team players will be leaving after this year? I guess we will have to wait until after the draft or the combine to tell for sure, but it seems to me that there’s a lot of proven talent leaving.
Check out the h.s. recruits committing to WMU and new coach Bates. At the top of this list is Javaughn Hannah who had offers (if you believe VerbalCommits) from Big 10, SEC, PAC10, Big East schools.

Not only excited by Boals' recruiting of late, but the MAC overall is looking impressive.

Bates has been a great recruiter for years getting guys to Kalamazoo going back to Joe Reitz. They had a dip for a few years when he left, now that he is back and has replaced Hawkins it is no surprise to see them get some classes with talent.
