Man, WAKE UP… I thought we were more athletic this year. We may be, but we don’t have any guards that can guard the opponent.

The best basketball athlete we ever had was from Connecticut! That will bring an argument from some quarters, where history starts with me. (ha-ha!).

Outscored 15-4 to start the half.

This is the problem with hiring an alum as coach.

No matter what happens, you are stuck with him. No getting rid of an alum.

Missed the first few minutes of the second half -- watched Jeopardy at half. What happened to Simmons?

Now he's back. Foul trouble?

OCF, I agree with you! That guy was even on the front cover of sports illustrated. Go Walter Lucket from Connecticut!
Sheldon back to his own self. Falling down on a shot… I never saw that out of Walter

And, Larry Slappy and Ulice Payne weren't chopped liver, either. They did have ratings back then, though not as institutionalized as today. They were both top 25 recruits.

After really looking at the Toledo roster and ours, I’m convinced our problem is recruiting. That is totally on a coaching staff!
What have we been out scored by 30 points since the first six minutes?

Not winning enough "wars" ;-)

At the beginning of the game they looked very much helter skelter and weren't playing as team. This half it's reversed. What happened?

Our defense is certainly lacking, but props to Toledo for not missing for 20 minutes straight.

Toledo can’t miss 12ft jump shots when they’re wide open or fully covered.

They are hitting so many shots because there’s so much quicker than we are. They can always get to the spot they wanna get to.

The best "athlete" ever at OHIO might actually have been from before both of our times -- Frank Baumholtz, who was MVP of the NIT and played MLB for a number of seasons. He also played a few seasons of professional basketball in the precursor league to the NBA.

I have seen every team since Walter Luckett, never got to see him play, but Yes, Gary Trent is the best basketball athlete ever to play at Ohio, hands down.

3 time MAC Player of the Year. Leading scorer at Ohio per game (3rd in scoring and rebounding overall, in only 3 years)

Is Parks really that bad? When he was in the portal, people here acted like the guy was a total scrub. That he wasn't good enough to play for us. As if we are the John Wooden era UCLA.

The guy hasn't missed from the field or the free throw line. 13 points in 18 minutes. 5-5 and 3-3. Sometimes I wonder why some of the people on here think our program is on par with UConn and Duke re: players who are "not good enough."

Trent was damn good, but "best" is a subjective judgement. See my post about Baumholtz. Also, all of the players on OHIO's only Elite 8 team were very good athletes. If you'd seen Don Hilt dunk you might not be quite so awestuck with those of Trent. I'm taking nothing away from Trent. He was very, very good, but when like on the Elite 8 team every player is excellent, you spread the honors around and don't have the individual stats that a super player on a team with others of less talent can rack up. Trent is certainly on the list of all-time OHIO greats, no doubt about that, but you need a little context when deciding on the greatest of all time.
