Sheldon has been benched on paper this season 100 times on this board already. He is a good ball handler and defender. He isn't bad at having a knack for long range rebounds too. I'm as disappointed in his three point shooting as anyone, but the potential is there and the other components of his game are solid.
What you're describing is a guy who should be getting 15 minutes a game, not 30. He made an absolutely atrocious turnover last night on a lazy drive and lazy kick out to the top of the key, something I couldn't believe when he actually did it. Some people on here like to rip Pavs for getting into the lane and throwing up wild shots, did you see what Sheldon did last night?
If he can uptick his three point shooting, I'm fine giving him minutes because that's what he's out there for. And I could absolutely see subbing him in for defense, because Connors got torched and had terrible positioning multiple times last night. But I think he has a slight offensive advantage over Sheldon.
I liked the rotations last night, especially bringining in Kelly and Kuany as much as Boals did. But with E2 out and expected back at some point, someone's minutes have to come down. I don't think we can sacrifice the athleticism that E2, Kelly and Kuany bring just because Sheldon might get a couple steals.
Exactly. Why are we talking about POTENTIAL? Buddy is a senior. He's not improved, he's gotten worse and inexplicably his shooting volume has increased.
He does play tough defense, as tough as someone 6'0" 185 pounds can play, and he does come down with an occasional rebound, but acting like a 6'6" JJ Kelly can't do all that and more... because POTENTIAL is indeed there for him.
Dior is playing better, as well. Burris got off the bench briefly in the first half.
Sheldon should be getting 15 minutes at most, IF his shot is falling. His defense isn't good enough to justify a full load of starters minutes. Not when we do have potential sitting on the bench needing those minutes.
PG: Jack
SG: I like Dior, but I think I want to see more JJ Kelly. He didn't take many shots, but he was active. He's big. He's long. I think he can create a lot of challenges for dudes trying to run up and hit quick 3's. Elliott is also a good player, but I think first or second off the bench is good for him.
SF: Breath is too good to not have on the floor at the start of games.
PF: Hadaway
C: Simmons
We have talent and depth, and haven't quite figured out the rotation. Trim Sheldon's minutes back and spread it around.
Like I put in my predictions, I think we're only a few games away from your starting 4 being Kuany. And likely Breath shifting back into a 25 min 6th man role. Simmons could come off the bench, but we really lack that big body down low.
6 - Elliott
7 - Dior
8 - Breath
9 - Kuany
Boals would rather eat a scorpion on live TV than use a 10 man rotation, but depending on the day, we NEED Evans to step up. His size and athleticism... even in warm-ups watching him I'm baffled he can't get 10 mins to run up and down and block shots. Boals has played so many bad bigs, I find it hard to believe he is that far into the dog house. Burris is gonna find himself that odd man out in a guard heavy rotation, but there will be nights when we need his 3 ball.
I salivate at the size potential, we just seem to be hellbent on playing small ball when that only works when you're hitting 3-pointers.
