Too much dribbling and one V1 play. No teamwork here.

Looks like they’re gonna try to make my comment about three point shots wrong.

Now that we’ve had 6 quarters to digest, how we feeling about the new floor?

I thought I would hate the dark / light changes within the 3 point area, but I think I kinda like it…? Or am indifferent cause it’s fine… I like the paw and the wood grain green. I would’ve just kept that.
I love it on tv but haven’t seen it in person yet. I’ll fall into the “fan” category
If they kept the wood grain tonal green and used that for the paw. With maybe a wood grain white OHIO… (remove the dark wood entirely) that would’ve been fire.

More pick and rolls.

Has Sheldon come out tonight? I feel like he’s on his way to lead us in minutes.

Rinse + Repeat.

Go back to the scrimmage threads and last game. I complain about our offense every game. Cause there isn’t one. Someone else mentioned Boals has said before that’s his philosophical choice - letting the players run around and play… which ends up being 4 guys standing around watching the person with the ball.

Nice little 11-0 run there. That helps.

This team is bipolar. We’ll look really good and then hit a really bad stretch

Imagine if we could make threes and free throws. We could be alright.

That pick and roll with Pavs and Simmons and Pavs and Breath created a ton of problems for Illinois State. I figured that the Pavs/Simmons pnr would be our number one action, but didn't expect the Pavs/Breath combo to be so effective, too.

This would make sense given the roster build. Pick and roll/drive and dish can be our best friend this year. Beats a team that just hoists up too many 3’s. We still need to figure out the latter, but perhaps drawing up some plays specifically for Conners and Sheldon would help. Wild to get this win going 1/8.

Great to see more minutes from Kelly and Kuany. I think their athleticism raises the floor for us come MAC play, so long as they each continue to get worked into the rotation.

I’m also glad Simmons and Breath are Bobcats. Fun win against a tough team.

Liked a lot of what I watched tonight. FT problems have to change. It's like not having a reliable FG Kicker.

+1 on Kelly and Kuany. Rare to have 2 freshmen that seem ready athletically and from a defensive IQ standpoint. May be overreacting to one game, but I would get Kelly into the starting lineup for Sheldon as soon as next game.

Agreed. A lot of good things but the free throw shooting kept this a tighter game than it should have been.

Kelly came out of nowhere for that big block late in the game. Kid has some serious athletic ability.

Nice game. Those pick and rolls were things of beauty. Kuany looked like the real deal. Kind of reminded me a little of Flomo. Seems we have more strength inside this year, but our free throw shooting is going to kill us in some games if we can't be more consistent at the line. It seemed to me the they played more team ball tonight than on Tuesday, and had more chemistry. Also, we must remember that ISU was playing its first game, so that it may have helped us that we had one game under our belts and they didn't.

Can anyone explain to me the challenge that resulted in an overturned call? I thought I had an excellent view of the play and it appeared that the ISU player simply dribbled the ball off of his foot out of bounds. One of our guys was making some contact with him at that time, but they can't go back and call a foul they didn't call in real time. Perhaps, someone else on here had a different angle that showed something different, but I'm still scratching my head over that one.

ball clearly was dribbled off of an Ohio player's foot

I guess angles can be deceiving. As I said, that's not how it looked from my seat, and I had an unobstructed view. Thanks for your input. I believe you. I just wish I could have seen the replay from another angle. I mean if Jeff Boals had seen it from my angle, he'd have been T'd up after the reversal! It appeared that clearly off the ISU's guys foot.

I'm happily eating my words on Kuany and Kelly! Their length and athleticism changed the game last night. Both were extremely active and made a huge difference. There were multiple defensive possessions with them on the floor at the same time that ISU just couldn't quite make the final pass to get a good look because these two were rotating all over the place to get in passing lanes, closeout hard, and just bother people with their length. Awesome to watch, and I don't think we've had that ability in a long time.

As much as I love Elliott's athleticism, I think we may end up starting Kelly over him instead of Sheldon, just to keep some shooting on the floor. Kelly gives us a little more wing size, and I think the guard combos of Pav/Sheldon and Elliott/Conners gives us the playmaking and shooting balance we need on the floor at all times. And Kelly probably still won't play 30 minutes every night (unless he starts shooting it well), so that leaves you wiggle room to go with the hot hand or more athleticism depending on the night for the extra minutes between Sheldon, Elliott, Conners. Also wouldn't hate seeing Conners over Sheldon in the starting lineup a little more, but Boals seems bullish on Sheldon so not sure that I see that changing.

Unfortunately couldn't watch the game last night, but I will over the weekend. Huge win and you can tell how important it was in the post-game locker-room celebration. Agree with what everyone is saying here about Kelly. When E2 gets back and hopefully he will for St. Mary's, Kelly has to get at least 15 minutes a game and let that take minutes away from Sheldon please. We have to get Sheldon down to 20-22. Sheldon playing 30-35 minutes per game is not sustainable.
