Here's the deal: Win the next two and we're a top-three seed, playing a team that hasn't beaten us this season (we're 11-0 against the bottom seven in the MAC, 3-4 vs top-five teams). Win the quarter-final game, and we probably play a team that we've beaten this year (Toledo is the only MAC team that skunked us). We have some issues to address but there's no need for gloom-and-doom.

Several on here mistake reality for doom-and-gloom.

I'm not doom and gloom and BG is bad, but we NEVER win in BG. Like, ever. This one is far from a certainty and I'd have said that if we were undefeated.

Zero gimmes this week. Not with the way this team is limping down the stretch.

For the first time in history (yesterday) the top 6 teams in the nation all lost.

(plus another in the top 10)

Good luck with your brackets in a few weeks.

No gimmees? Correct. Murray sandwiched the blowout win vs Belmont with a couple of struggles to win vs ut-Martin (8-22) and SEMO (13-17)

Reading the BG board throughout the season,I get the feeling their locker room is in disarray. Pretty sure their big man Reece has separated from the team. They need to clean house one way or another in the off-season. Let's clown this clown team in their own building.

I checked out their web site and discovered that 2 of their double digit scores are off the team after playing in their 23 game.
Since that time BG has lost all 6 games.
This is quite interesting.

BG players appear to me to have quit on their coach in recent weeks.

I'm not just saying this because of what I watched in the Convo on Friday, but we have lost a lot of games in that building at BG. It's a game we should win, but as others have said, nothing in the Stroh Center is a lock.

Joe Reece and Myron Gordon have both been dismissed from the BG roster for failure to uphold program standards. They've both been gone a couple weeks. Gordon had 18 points in our first meeting.

I love that most of the focus of this thread is who "isn't" playing for BG. We got creamed by an Akron team that was missing Trimble and never had Walton. Let's not worry about the other team's personnel and perhaps worry more about who won't show up for OUr team in this game.

Would not be shocked by a 30 point win or a 10 point loss. No idea what to expect but hope we play the way we are capable and comfortably cruise.

Not so much "who" as "what" -- defense. Akron hit us for 66% from the field and a 42-28 edge in pts in the paint. Kent got 52% from the field, including 47% from three, and 28-14 in the paint. Add that we were outrebounded badly in both games (39-28 by Kent, 33-23 by Akron) and it shows we have an energy problem. It would be good to see us come out with a pressure defense, which usually helps raise the energy level.

I've got a question for those on this board with a basketball IQ higher than mine (which is at least 50 percent of regular posters). Is the high shooting percentage of our recent foes due mainly to players who got extremely hot in their shooting that is something out of our control or is it mainly due to crappy defense on our part, which theoretically we could take steps to improve going forward.

We are currently 7.5 point favorites.
BG has lost their last 6 games after dismissing 2 double digit scorers. They are not going to Cleveland, therefor do not have much to play for. If the reports are accurate and the coach has lost the team the players will not be very motivated for their last 2 games of the season.
Our usual response after a loss is a WIN. I don't look for a 30 point blow out but rather an 8-12 point win. We may start out slow, as usual, keep it close at the half then pull away. This seems to be our MO.

For what its worth, I asked a juco basketball coach watching the Akron game this question and he said Akron was just shooting lights out. Also said we get are not great inside on D and rebounding. And can't have both happening.

Bowling Green actually is just one game back of Miami for 8th place in the MAC. Of course, their last two games are vs. Ohio and at Toledo, so I don't think their chances are very realistic, especially given their current state.

BG situation getting juicy (From the BG board):
__________________________________________________________________________

What I got from Mr. Reece (dismissed player's father) is that he agrees with us all that Huger cannot coach/draw up anything in any situations.
Had a conversation they had with Moosebrugger left them thinking he's a joke.
Mr. Reece told me his son had several offers this offseason and he chose BG largely because he was aware of the tournament drought and wanted to end it.
He feels, and says that the other guys on the team as well, that Joe & Myron are being scape-goated in an effort by Huger to save his job/save face even though he is a defeated coach.
Also points out (correctly) that as rough as the year has been we're still in contention to earn a MAC tournament berth with a big game coming up Saturday and just jettisoned 2 key rotation pieces. Feels like if they end up losing Huger will use the fact that he had to jettison 2 guys late in the year as an excuse why they couldn't make the tournament.

Below is a direct paste of his comments to me...I cannot paraphrase this...again, it's all posted with his permission since he cannot get approved to use his own voice on here:
James Reece (Joe's Dad) wrote:
And let them know that the reason “straight from the coaches mouth,” was he didn’t like their attitude… mind you.. Joe was never late for practice, never any altercations on or off the court! 3. Something GPA never cursed out a coach .. but his body language was poor and his “energy” .. I’m still like HUH !! I guess I didn’t know that you were supposed to be a I guess happy when you are losing games… especially the ones that you know you could have won!

Not sure what to make of this, but if I had to guess I'd say he's back for at least one more year. He's a BGSU graduate and before the pandemic he had two 20-win seasons. Though, it does sound like the wheels are coming off this season.

BRod is just horrendous and it can’t be sugar-coated. Zero confidence and hurting the team on both ends. Should not play another minute in this game.

Update: Hope reverse jinx is working. He’s scored 5 points since this post.

Is it an energy problem (fatigue maybe a bit) or is it the fact that 3/5 of our rotation is now under 6'1? Defense and rebounding matter and it's hard to do when you're giving up 3-5 inches and 25-30 lbs.

Or option C) where we give up too many easy buckets inside, offensive rebounds and guys who get good looks because they can just shoot over the top of us?
