Jeff Boals is lost in the coaching box right now.
Probably because his 30 year old player is making freshman decisions

Can Jason Carter pass the basketball? He is beyond predictable.
Nobody on this team passes the ball well except BVP.

For as good as Sears is, it's been my knock on him all year. Just not a PG who facilitates and gets other guys involved. We devolve into a lot of 1 vs. the team.

Our rebounding (or lack thereof) is frustrating.
Agreed. We've been weak/tentative in this regard all year. Remember the rebounding disparity at UK?

Schmock and Brown just too small.

Roderick and Clayton are laughably terrible at rebounding.

It's our big 3 and Ezuma and that's about it on the boards.

Magically BVP just deciding to drive the ball and get down low and we immediately cut lead from 27-17 to 27-23.

If Tommy isn’t going to constantly hit shots, take him out. He’s too short for offense and defense

Sendy sounding like an 8th grade coach at half shows that it is all about athletes. Sendy is an AWFUL coach but has players. Boals can be friggin Pop but he is gonna lose everytime when Malique J plays Brod.

Roderick invisible
Sears invisible
Carter invisible

Rinse
Repeat

In just about every big game this year.

Keys to tonight IMO

1) Defense and Rebounding
These two aspects always travel well in March, on short rest, even if/when the offense isn't great. We guarded Balls well for the most part last night. Need another effort like that tonight. Can't allow Kant to shoot over 50% or it's over.

2) Get bigs involved in the offense
Our offense is SO much better when Carter (or BVP) are getting touches and scoring from the interior. Sears is going to get his points from the line, driving and maybe some 3s like last night. We're going to shoot 3s (making them is a different story) - that 3rd aspect of interior scoring is what truly makes our offense balanced and difficult to guard. Shots start opening up etc.

3) Stay out of foul trouble
We aren't deep enough to absorb it. Plus we need our bigs on the floor for rebounding (see #1) and scoring (see #2). Exception is IJ Ezuma - play the man and fouls be darned. We need his energy for defense and rebounding (see #1) and keep Carter fresh for scoring (see #2).

4) Somebody has to knock down 3s
Honestly doesn't matter who. Could be BRod (wishful thinking) could be Miles (he hit a couple last night), could be Tommy off the bench, or could be Sears and BVP like last night. Point being we shoot so many 3s, so some better go in or we're toast. A 3-19 night from 3 will result in a 20 point beatdown. Have to make shots. Hopefully an effective inside game (#2) makes these shots more open and therefore more successful.

5) Our Big 3 have to play like Big 3
Sears, BVP and Carter have generally been pretty steady as our 3-headed monster all season and it served us well. When one of them isn't clicking (see Carter during our skid) we just don't have enough depth and talent to make up for it against quality opponents.
So let's see - where we at with these at the half?

1) Defense - check. Rebounding? Pathetic.
2) Sporadic. We had a stretch around the 14-10 minute mark and again at end of half where we went inside with great success. Rest of half not so much, and we didn't fare very well.
3) Carter with 2.
4) It sure isn't BRod or Tommy. Miles hot early - would like to see us get him some more shots. Gonna need BVP and Sears to knock some down - 33% from the field at the half isn't going to cut it.
5) Been the Big 1. BVP productive. Carter and Sears non-existent. Just not good enough for that to continue.

We're 1.5 out of 5 by my score. And we're down 8. Sounds about right.

Gonna need to reverse these trends in the 2nd half to extend our season beyond tonight.

If we’re gonna win, we need to make shots and hope Kent just starts missing some how

My spicy take...

Sears does not have that killer instinct. Great players step up in big time games. Unfortunately hasn't happened yet. There's a reason Sincere Carry is MAC player of the year. Don't get me wrong, statistically Sears has had a great year but there's more than meets the eye.

Well there's a shot clock. Eventually we have to do SOMETHING.

This is a result of not working the ball inside, not reversing the basketball around the perimeter, and not driving and kicking to guys in space.

Dribble dribble dribble dribble...pass....dribble dribble dribble dribble...pass back out.

If that's the offense you're gonna chuck a lot of 3s.

I hear you. Kent is getting the ball to, or near, the block on about 80% of their possessions, mostly because of Carry's driving ability. We're more like 20%, if that. Not hard to defense a team that just wants to pass it around 35 feet from the rim.

10-49 in the 1st half vs Kent past 2 games. 3 assists total. 3-28 from 3. Brutal.

Out-rebounded 21-13 at half.

Ohio 5-11 from 2 and 3-13 from 3 (4-7 from FT).
Kent 10-21 from 2, 3-7 from 3 and 2-3 from FT.

Getting killed in the paint and on the boards.

Carter just looks awkward out there. Some sloppy passes and odd looking shots. Not sure how we get Sears loose. Need to stop chucking the 3s unless very late in shot clock. Woeful shooting overall, although better than 8% like previous first half against Kent.

A lot of complaints about Carter, but it's entirely unclear to me who else those shots are going to go to.

Sears isn't creating looks, BVP has been bottled up.

At least Carter is playing hard and trying to make something happen.

Sears cannot get loose until he has running mates who draw attention. AJB and EJ3 will be that.

Again, ZERO imagination from the guy in the coaches box and his staff on offense.

You can't win the MAC with a 6 man rotation.

Some bad luck with Wilson and McDay, but need to start hitting on recruits more frequently. Too many folks on the bench who can't break a 6 man rotation.
