Interesting that the #1 seeds aren't getting far into tourneys played on neutral floors.

MVC final in St. Louis was between #3 Drake and #4 Loyola. If Loyola hadn't won, MVC would like have had two bids to the Dance (Loyola has a 25 NET).

In the Horizon at Indy, #1 Cleve St is down by 15 to #4 Wright St with five minutes to go. The winner faces either #2 IPFW or #3 NKU. Horizon is a one-bid league this year; Oakland has the best NET at 174, NKU is 201, Wright is at 203, IPFW 224.
CAA #1 seed Towson loses in the semifinals to #5 seed Delaware tonight as well
Sun Belt (Pensacola, FL) -- #3 GaSt won the championship tonight. The #1 seed TxSt went down Saturday in the quarterfinals.

Been a really good week so far. Relying on Kenpom projections and numbers has not replaced actually playing the games but it has been exciting.

Interesting the attention and exposure the mids are getting by playing a week early. Good move by their conference even if it means some downtime for the teams who actually might benefit from the rest with their thin rosters.

SEC games last night were interesting even as their tourney runs 9-13. This week has been great for hoopheads. Great thread to have and read. Seeing true hoopheads watching many others is nice.

This conference tourneys scheduling is changing from the early 2000s and adds a nice element to end of season.

If anyone has the time and desire I would take the time to watch the History of the ACC tourney multi part series. That was the advent of the conference tourneys but has a ton of basketball history in it. Everett Case and Frank McGuire in the early sessions are fascinating and well researched. Early pioneers that changed the landscape of college ball.

Interesting scenario in today's Atlantic Sun final. It's Jacksonville vs Bellarmine, but Bellarmine is still in a D1 transition period and not yet eligible for the tournament. If they win, the regular season champion, Jacksonville STATE goes dancing.

Would be really interesting if Jacksonville had won the regular season. The semifinal game would have been a de facto championship and the final would just be a formality.

I think something more or less like that happened last season. "Liberty" played North Alabama in the tourney title game and UNA was not full-fledged D-1 yet, they were still in that limbo period of moving up from D-2.

JAX,,,,,Not sure if anyone noticed. Jordan Mincy on the fast Coaching track From Kent as a player graduating in 2009 to South Carolina, Kent State, College of Charleston, Toledo and Louisiana Tech,to FLA to JAX. He was described in his presser as a "world class developer of talent" Kudos to him on his accomplishments.

Bryant, damn, opened a can on Wagner in the NEC final. Alley ooping, step back threes, it's all falling in a packed elbow to elbow gym. What a scene.

Wright State, down 16 in the second half, completes the comeback to punch the Horizon ticket.

Uh oh, fight in the stands at Bryant/Wagner. Looks like a big chunk of Wagner fans have been escorted out, players off the floor. About 20 cops on the floor. Yeesh.

This all in a game where Bryant has a 30+ point lead and four and a half minutes left.

Nice to see the foundations that TOS built are still moving forward

I watched JAX win but I am puzzled why ESPN keeps running the graphic saying "Jacksonville State" as the rep for the ASUN. Had to go back and recheck it to make sure as it created doubt after seeing it several times

Yep, the old congratulations you get an NCAA bid even though you lost and didn't even play today gig. Pretty slick if you can swing it.

How hard was JSU rooting for Bellarmine in that one?

Colgate and Navy up tomorrow as second wave of tourneys get going in full swing.

Bryant was 3-28 in O'Shea's last year (2017-18). You want to call that a "foundation"?

Beacuse Jax STATE gets the bid as regular season champion if I understand correctly. Weird result for sure, why does NCAA have the rule to punish an overachiever like Bellarmine?

Bonehead play by Paul Scruggs in the X Butler game. Up two with only seconds remaining, he misses a free throw and then fouls Butler's best free throw shooter in the back court. He buries both, game goes to OT, and now it's all Butler.

I definitely need to watch that ESPN documentary on the ACC tournament. Like many on this board, I grew up watching the ACC tournament when it was the only one. And Everett Case at NCSU but had Indiana roots. I remember seeing his display at the hall of fame in New Castle that you directed me to, bornacatfan.

Can the Orange hold on against the Dukies!? And without Buddy and so far only playing 6? Banchero is going to have to get more touches. Duke crushed Syracuse in 2 regular season meetings, Orange up 4 at half.

Banchero flirts with a triple-double but Williams was the difference. Great game though, final score not indicative to how close the orange were to the win.

Two more 1s go down -- Illinois and Auburn. Just gives them an extra couple days to prep for the Dance.

Cincy has a seven-pt lead over #1Houston with 17 mins to go in the AAC tourney.

So far they've been joined by Northern Iowa, Cleveland St, Towson, Texas St, Iona, North Texas and Nicholls.

Did anybody else see the triple-OT game between UAB and MTSU? UAB finally took a decent lead late in the 3rd OT with guys fouling out and cramping up all over the place...and two of their players get technical fouls for taunting with the game almost over, to let MTSU back in the game with technical free throws.

Andy Kennedy. What a guy. (not in a good way)

Very happy for Virginia Tech. Those P6 level tournaments aren't all that interesting unless a win or go home team goes on a run, like the Hokies or Oregon State last year.

Texas AM-CC, who has appeared in the Convo, is in from the Southland. Wanna know something wild? 11 of the last 13 Southland champions are no longer in that conference.

Anybody else watch Arizona-UCLA last night? Goodness that Zona team is huge. Tall, long, and athletic. They’ll be a tough out for anyone.

I can see your point about the VT situation in their conference tournament but if they get in that probably means a deserving “mid” is left out. I still believe prior to the conference tournaments the NCAA should determine how many teams from each conference will get into the tournament. If a team ranked outside those numbers win the conference tournament, a team at the bottom of this “secret list” gets bumped out. Having said this I realize “it ain’t happenin’ “ because it would somewhat weaken the grip the major conferences have.

Isn't this precisely what they do already? The committee doesn't just get together on Sunday and pick em. They've been meeting for over a week. So you'd have to think they basically have their 68 going into the conference tourneys and as teams outside win, they replace the team from the bottom and so on. Once they're confident with the 68 on Sunday they work on details like seedings, matchups and placements. Certainly not saying a team or two might get added or removed through discussions during the process but that the bulk of the bracket is likely already working exactly like you described.
