He had a special team. He is no longer a special coach. Since leaving Athens his late February/March record is average at best.

March 10, 2022

MAC Quarterfinals

Akron 70
Buffalo 68

*Groce is still dangerous in March.

*Freeman and Ali Ali are players. Freeman is the new Devin Davis of the MAC.

*Still can't believe how badly Buffalo effed up with the hiring of Whitesell. What a waste of two years with Williams, Segu and Mballa. Buffalo will have 750 people going to games next year with those three gone.

March 11, 2022

MAC Semifinals

Akron 70
Toledo 62

*Groce is still dangerous in March.

*Freeman and Ali Ali are players. Freeman is the new Devin Davis of the MAC.

*Toledo quit in the final 30 seconds. If they didn't win the MAC last year or this year, then when?

March 12, 2022

MAC Final

Akron 75
Kent. 55

*Groce is still dangerous in March.

*Freeman and Ali Ali are players. Freeman is the new Devin Davis of the MAC.

*Figures Sincere plays the worst game of his career tonight and not last night against Ohio.

*Those who have been foolishly stating that Groce got lucky a few times at Ohio in March and isn't "special" must also think Jim Christian is a good coach. Groce has now taken three different teams to the NCAA tournament. That’s not “luck” folks. Will never understand Ohio fans who can't appreciate what Groce brought to this program. Hopefully Boals can add a Freeman/Ali type player because our current roster doesn't have it. #DontFlinch

Have been a Groce fan since he first came to OU. He bought into Athens from the get-go. Ate at every restaurant uptown to get to know the people, had a big time recruit in town and still managed to bring his staff to play 9 holes in the annual Green and White Club scramble (and apologized when Holtman drove one over our heads on four when we were already across the ditch), and has a wife who entered the annual Chili Bowl cookout each fall with her family's recipe. Good people.

And if OU can't win the MAC, Akron is my second rooting choice having grown up there and played many a pickup game in the old Memorial Hall. The D tonight they played against Kent is something I'd love to see in the Convo.

Man....your hate for Groce runs deep. Did he beat you in a game of horse and take all of your money?

I'd love to know how he was on the hot seat entering this season? T3 in conference last season and year before (Covid year) he won the East with 24 victories. That was his third season when he was getting his own players into the program. But continue to spin how bad of a coach Groce is and how he can't win in March. Spin away. Instead of being bitter, be thankful for the banners and March runs he gave us.

Always liked Groce and Dustin. Riding that fine line and straying outside it now and again.

Didn’t flinch tonight. Hope they win a few more.

That guy can coach and recruit. And man is he still intense, coaches hard to the final horn. The Zips flat kicked Kent’s -ss and took their lunch money.

I’m all in for Coach Groce. I hope he gets to play the Illini in the first round.

Is it that obvious - lol. Yup, not a fan. Not because he left here for Illinois - smart and right move professionally and personally. Issue is he came back to Akron. To me, in basketball, Akron is more of a rival thanks to Miami sucking so bad over the years and Dambrot making Akron so good and so easy to hate in his time there.

Didn't realize Groce had signed an extension last year, thought I had heard he was on hot seat - probably more "Groce Goggles" on my part than reality - though can't just dismiss (until now) that he has not shined in February/March since leaving here - Since Groce left Athens his teams are 46-41 (.529) in February/March (including 8-1 in 2020 at Akron when he had them rolling - but also means he's 38-40 in other years), and 7-7 in conference tournaments. Made it happen this year and deserves the credit - hopefully not returning to his old Athens ways.

Take solace, I'll be rooting for Groce and Akron in tourney as I always pull for MAC representative in the Dance. Then I'll root for he and Akron to flame out next year in regular season (unless he moves on in which case I'll only be rooting for Akron to suck). Yes I know Squared, I'm suppose to be rooting for all MAC teams to continue to rise - just can't do it with Akron...sorry.
