Well... this one was a stinger.
Was in the O-Zone for all of tonight and I have to say it was the loudest I've heard the Convo in my time on campus. But we got straight out played tonight. Clayton out extremely hurt us. Ezuma - meh game tonight. Potential is there but just couldn't finish the deal. Knew they were going to crowd Sears at the start.
Not an excuse, but does that bald ref always have a problem with us? Called some soft fouls away from offensive play then misses blatant ones on Toledo? Screw off!
I hope Carter is ok, didn't look very good - not a doctor but looked like minimal severe cramp worst case torn Achilles. I hope he's ok.
Also, I'm going to take blame for jinxing the boys tonight... Wrote "AP RANK US" on my poster.
Only other positive thing - BVP noticed my "ONE MORE YEAR?" sign and smiled. Hope he liked it.
It sounded really loud on TV. It has been awhile since we have had a student turnout like that... well done!
I hope the loss doesn't dampen enthusiasm, but honestly a good enemy is as great of a motivator as any!
...
That first possession of the game set the tone for me. We played great defense for the entire shot clock (nearly forcing a turnover at one point) then as the shot clock was about to expire Toledo hit a 3 with hands in their face. Nothing you can do about that, and that was the story for much of the game (including multiple times as we made a run and seemed to have momentum)
On the positive side, it was good to see us mount a comeback in the 2nd half. We came out of the half firing and playing aggressive defense which was great to see. At times it felt to me like we were forcing 3's a bit but Toledo deserves credit for shutting down Sears ability to drive to the basket. The and-one Sears' had on the fastbreak as he was literally triple teamed is SportsCenter Top 10 material if we had actually pulled of the comeback. No clue how he finished that. Wish he could have drawn some more fouls driving the basket late in the game to get to the line.
The air definitely came out of the building when Carter got hurt. I hope that Arkley is correct and it was a bad cramp and not something structural. He was definitely in pain.
Crazy we see these guys again in 2.5 weeks. I'm now trying to talk myself into a Tuesday trek to Toledo (things no one says)
