All the mentions of Chicago kinda makes me wonder what the odds are that the former Illinois staff (current Akron staff) could get caught up in this...
Haven't seen any corroboration, but the interwebs were buzzing that Kansas' AD was raided and documents removed. I think Self has maintained a pretty good Chicago Public League pipeline since his days at U of I.

Anyone who follows recruiting knows Chicago is the most crooked city of them all. There's a reason why those kids don't stay home often and I will give you a hint, it starts with the Benjamin's......

And as to the post above mine, Self has those connections because of the money that has flown around there. Ask the Illini alumni, they will tell you.

Kansas basketball offices were raided today, seizing computers, and Nike Youth Sports has been served subpoenas for financial records. This shoe has yet to fully drop.

As for the NCAA, incoming athletes will fall under their influence, but lots of this involves players who entered the draft after playing.
And Kansas just signed a $191 million contract with Adidas last Friday. What a coincidence.

Alabama's Kobie Baker, a men's basketball administrator, resigned from his position. He used to be employed in basketball enforcement when he worked for the NCAA.

I don't know a lot about a lot, but I have to believe that Adidas is not the only shoe company doing this. No way that if Adidas is doing it that Nike and most likely Under Armor are not. They just got to Adidas first.

There's no way it's only Adidas. Keeping up with the Jones' if anything. As BTC said, this is far from over. Once one person spills the beans if questioned by the Feds, that's gonna stoke the fire.

Five demerits and one-day suspension from BA for mentioning that dude and bringing back collective nightmares to a bunch of us old farts who have been trying to repress that memory for years! ;-)

The great AC might be one of my all time top five hoopsters - up there with Adrian Dantley and Gary Trent - despite what he did against our Bobcats. As a color commentator on Cleveland Cavaliers games, AC is among my bottom 5.

Speaking of Dantley. He was a freshman when I saw the Irish win at OSU. Dantley almost cost the heavily favored Irish the game when he got T'd up for a dunk when dunking was not allowed.

Speculation here, and I've seen it elsewhere, too, that Louisville's men's basketball program will get the death penalty. What you folks think?

I wonder if Nike or Under Armor dropped a dime on Adidas, Adidas was steadily rising and signing the most new affinity deals.

If you give Louisville the death penalty you have to give it to other schools then too right? This is bigger than just one school. This could...and theoretically should...lead to reform among the entire NCAA. Frankly, the NCAA looks like a bunch of fools compared to what the FBI was able to do.

And I'm still curious about that Alabama administrator who left his post. He used to work for the NCAA and then got a job at Alabama. It's almost like the NCAA knew some of this stuff was going on and put their own people out in the field to keep it under wraps.

This is big. We're at the tip of the iceberg here.

There was a news story last year about the NCAA and D1 basketball.

The conclusion was that, with the amount of money the NCAA makes on March Madness, they aren't going to do anything anything to kill the goose that laid the Golden Egg.

Looks like the FBI may force the NCAA's hand.

I'm not saying that the NCAA does great work, but the subpoena power that the FBI has makes a bunch of difference in what can be uncovered. The risk of federal prosecution also tends to make a difference as well.

I tend to disagree. Louisville we already know is egregious and was doing this after their probation. As such, they already qualify for the death penalty. Will be interesting to see if they enforce this.

Stephen A. Smith's quote from the other day on Rick Pitino applies well to Bruce Pearl, as well:

"If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it ain't a *darned* mongoose."

Trouble follows Bruce Pearl like flies to fecal matter.

I think that kind of goes without saying. Of course the FBI, a government entity, is going to have more ability to uncover stuff. I'm just pointing out that the NCAA's "enforcement" isn't what some think it is.

You have to wonder how soon Kelvin Sampson's name will pop up in this.

Will be interesting to see what the coaching (head and assistants) landscape looks like a year from now.

No kidding, the NCAA has ZERO legal power in its investigations, to even hint at comparing their investigations with an organization like the FBI is laughable

That's right, that's why people knocking what the NCAA has done in regards to investigations is laughable. See the bunch of fools comment above.

Its true that the NCAA does not have the ability to conduct a criminal investigation like the FBI.

It don't think anyone would compare the two.

That being said, even when the NCAA does uncover violations that warrant severe penalties,in many cases they don't enforce them since that will affect their bottom line.

Before March Madness last year WFAN had several sports pundits on talking about the fact that, just based on what had been made public,Louisville should get the "death penalty".But,they said having them out of March Madness for an extended period would be bad for the tournament,so it wasn't ever going to happen.

Their position was that,as far as the NCAA is concerned, certain programs are above the rules.
