Pavs playing very well. 17 on 7 FGA. 3-3 from 3, including one off the dribble. He's playing with a ton of confidence.

Pavs is a stud.
Conners asserting himself.
Evans active.
Kelly is a future star.

Lots of positives.

Frustrations:
Hadaway stop shooting so many 3s
Sheldon hustle is good..no offense if not wide open
Kuany looks lost
Simmons will either dominate or kill us with his attitude

Overall good fight against what will be a top 5 team.

I think Evans should get more minutes. He’s active and long. We need that

Simmons needs a reality check: you're not elite. Work harder. That last breakaway miss was lazy as Heck. Should be benched rest of game. He has been a huge disappointment. Really wish we had Breath and Elliott. Their hustle and athleticim is next level. I am sure OUr guys are tired. Still fighting.

I agree. And I am sure that is affecting Simmons and Captain Chaos. Elliott and Breath absence is only known by us diehards.

Final score won’t reflect it but this is the first solid game of the year

Felt like they battled and kept themselves in it, just didn't have the gas or the horses to keep up with a team like that. Much better than the St. Mary's game though so take some positives with that.

Kelly, Connors, Kuany and Sheldon combined for 33 points, which if this roster was full, would be a great group to bring off the bench. But depending on what E2 looks like when he comes back, I think Boals has to take a serious look at Kelly starting. It's a small sample size, but my lineup so far would be:

Pav
Hadaway
E2
Kelly
Simmons

Connors and Breath the first off the bench, with Kuany, Sheldon and Evans going 10 deep if needed. Boals has never shown he'll go 10 deep on a nightly basis, so someone's minutes are definitely getting cut.

Starting both Sheldon and Pav is a detriment to the team because I don't think anyone has asked this question: who is Ohio's backup PG? If it's Sheldon, bring him off the bench for a defensive spark, and possible 3pt shooting. Pav can't play 40 min a night, man. Kelly so far is bringing everything to the table that Sheldon brings, he's just doing it in a much bigger body. Let's start him again when E2 comes back and see how he does.

That was the best game we've played to date.

This team misses Breath. My early observation is he might be our best big.

Pavs, if he's gonna go 3-4 from 3, and 9-10 from the FT line....and score 28. Give him the keys to the car (Boals already has). This is more me proving I don't hate the kid. If he plays like THAT, he's a stud.

Simmons is over-rated. We need him to be successful, but I'd cut his minutes. Ayden Evans is still super raw, but you see the potential. He needs 4-8 minutes a night to develop.

Hadaway is our Mr do everything. Similar to having no real backup PG to Pavs (though it should be Sheldon), we have no other player on our team with Hadaway's skill set with length that can rebound, score and defend but also can play on the wing/corner. Agree I'd like to see him take less 3s as well, but sadly he may need to shoot a couple more than even he wants just to keep the D honest.

JJ Kelly has looked the part. He's got everything we lack. Size, length, speed, athleticism, can shoot, can drive, can rebound. His 3pt release is slow - and he's still a little tentative - so he still looks like a freshman at times, but man keep giving that kid minutes and he's going to blossom before our eyes.

Conners may be our best, most reliable, 3pt shooter this season. He can also drive and score a bit. To me, he should be our starting SG. I hate that it means Elliott might go to the bench but he's a better 3pt shooter than Elliott. And Kelly is longer than Elliott at the 3. Elliott is a PG. And while I harped for it last season, like I said at the top of this post, if Pavs is going to play like that then Elliott isn't playing over him either. Conners or Elliott and Simmons could create an amazing 1-2 "instant offense" duo off the bench IMO.

Sheldon. Mr. Hustle. Mr. loose ball rebound. Mr. loose ball steal. Mr. Still Can't Shoot. Mr. Still too small. Mr. needs to be our backup PG and then stays on the floor for crucial defensive possessions (though he still gets beat off the dribble) or when he's hitting from deep.

Then there's Kuany. Mr. Energy. He's super long. Super athletic. Super clumsy. He's a walking foul. He can also jump out the gym. Give him mop-up minutes and tell him to just dunk/rebound until he can figure out how to play D without fouling so much.

Starting 5: Pavs/Conners/Kelly/Hadaway/Breath
First 2 off bench: Elliott/Simmons
8th man/D guy/backup PG: Sheldon
Spot Minutes: Evans
Mop-Up Minutes: Kuany

They toyed with us - could've won by 40. Simmons was terrible. Hadaway was immature (again). Sheldon is an unbelievable liability.

Program is a mess.

looking at these last two games i see that we did better against louisville than St. marys. we scored 20 more points and had two balanced halves in scoring. 44 in the first and 37 in the second. obviously we don,t have the horses to beat a team like louisville especially on their court.

17 turnovers, 12 assists and giving up 88 points a game. Barring a volleyball turn around, this is going to be a longggg season.

4 games in, with a tough schedule. Think folks are overreacting quite a bit. I've seen plenty that makes me think this team's more talented than last year's.

Certainly some shortcomings, but the MAC is the MAC and we should have a puncher's chance.

These games mean little to nothing, obviously we aren't going to match up with a national contender like Louisville. I feel a little better after today than I did after St. Mary's. Pavs looks like he's ready to take it to another level, he's going to do some great things in MAC play.

My overly simplistic analysis: Against St. Mary's we didn't have a pulse. Against Louisville, a faint pulse with some arrhythmia detectable.

This is where I’m at. A lot of these takes are overly dramatic. We’ve faced two mid-major preseason conference favorites and two teams with a Round of 32 floor.

We’re much more talented than last year and will be fine in MAC play. A 6-6 non-conference record to me was always a success, given the schedule.

Sheldon’s minutes are the main nuance to me, much like others. That’s Boals issue at this point and not a depiction of the talent we have.

Isn't there a BA poster always getting on Boals for not playing a non-conference schedule similar to the football team's? Something about the basketball team never facing the likes of Rutgers, OSU, WVU at the beginning of the season? I would say these 4 games to start the season is not unlike what the football team faced.
