Wheeew! It didn't seem that long ago when our Cats play a P4 university we actually expected wins 20-25% of time. Now we are trying to stay within 30. Off the cliff man.
I feel your pain, man! When I was student at OHIO we reqularly played top 20 teams, and beat them a fair amount of the time. We played defending national champion Loyola at home and knocked Kentucky out of the NCAA tournament with a resounding 85-69 beat down. When I was in graduate school we beat four of the five Big Ten teams we played that year, including a home victory over Purdue with their big star Rick Mount, who I think was the leading scorer in the nation at the time.
And, in the more recent past we've beaten the likes of Georgetown, Virginia (twice), Michigan, etc.
Our basketball program is going to hell in a handbasket, and it's painful to see the slow decline into basketball obvilion. Some will blame the whole thing on NIL and revenue sharing, and that's certainly part of the issue, but I think the problem is more systemic than that. Even by MAC standards, we are sinking to a lower level each year.
I hope that I have come back at the end of the year and eat a full course of crow, as we take the MACC and get to the Sweet 16. But, right now, I think we are headed to a season that will be only eclipsed by the Wilderness Campaign of the Hunter Era.
