Officially in portal. No surprise. Wish him much success moving forward. A swing and miss for Boals and staff.
Swing and a miss being used to describe recruiting 18 year old kids has always felt harsh to me. Recruiting out of high school at the mid-major level is about as inexact of a science as there might be short of forecasting the weather. It's actually why I've become a fan of balancing classes with at least one transfer that's shown to be game ready every year. Honestly, it's why Kent, Akron, and Toledo might have been better this year. Unfortunately (to me), it's the new reality of college hoops. It's unfortunate to me because one of the things I like best about college hoops is watching the progression through the 4-5 years a player is on campus.
Agree.
Agreed. And especially agreed for big men. It's much more common for a mid-major to find a 18 year old guard who can contribute as a freshman than a 18 year old who is 6-8+ and has the coordination and touch with the basketball to really make a big impact immediately.
As stated above, just because a big guy you recruit doesn't have it all together immediately doesn't mean he won't have it down the road. Plenty of big guys end up being very solid players by year four. Dwight Wilson averaged just 9 minutes per game and 3 ppg in 26 games as a freshman at James Madison.

Sorry to hear it… He was literally and figuratively our biggest cheerleader and he brought energy to the bench and to those on the court. I have no doubt he will be a good teammate wherever he goes and will hopefully get a chance to play more and show people what he can do on the floor….

Go Bobcats!
Agreed. Every good team needs a guy like Colin Granger on it. Tremendous for culture and energy. He gave us some really good minutes in the NCAA last year. Really sad and puzzling that it never translated to more minutes or success on the court.
It's interesting because we all saw this coming and while we've had plenty of good dudes transfer, this one feels different. One of my favorite memories from our NCAA run was when BVP hit that second 3 in Hauser's face and Virginia took a timeout and Gus Johnson yells "It feels like some March Madness" and you see Granger sprinting from the bench to celebrate. I wish him nothing but the best and really hope he can get some meaningful minutes and just throw guys around in the post.
Gus Johnson didn't announce our game against UVA and hasn't been on NCAA Tournament broadcasts for several years. Give some respect to Carter Blackburn!

He had 12 DNPs last year. He averaged more fouls per minute (.24) than points (.22). I don't see the infatuation by folks with this guy. His role on this team was to bang bodies in practice and be head cheer leader on the bench. He does seem like a good kid and hopefully he finds a good fit at his next stop. If he decides to stay that's fine also, but let's not be surprised with his lack of plying time.

Thank you....I don't see why it's so hard for others to figure it out as well. Wishing him well to go get minutes at a smaller school.

Wow you're absolutely right. Me describing him as "not completely inept" meant he's an All MAC player with Bota NBA skills. My bad.

Just because he's in the transfer protal doesn't mean it is a done deal. If we don't get a couple of notable pickups, esepcially with the absense of BVP, who knows he may come back. I know it is a long shot, but few saw Ben entering the transfer portal. Maybe Colin and Coach Boals reasses the situation?

I'm thinking this could be a possibility now BVP is in the portal and could potentially leave. But, you never know.
