It seems like Mark really didn't care a whole lot about Ohio University. Really seems like he had an exit plan for awhile.

I feel somewhat bad for him though, must have been tough to keep all of that internalized during the season.
Maybe he didn’t keep it internalized and that contributed to our bad finish.
If you put any stock in body language I’m not sure it was being internalized. One Boals’ coaching moment stands out in particular for me.

If those comments are true, he tells you exactly what he thought of his teammates and their abilities compared to his.

Mr. "I Took Over for an NBA Point Guard and Folded Like a Chair When it Counted".

Good luck collecting dust while setting on your ass at a high major.

Mark should be looking at the likes of Miles College or Spring Hill College.
Both close to home and competition that is on par with his abilities.

One of my sons told me and his brother that Alabama has the number one rated freshman PG coming?….Gulp.

I was thinking (sarcastically) Chicago: Baby what a big surprise, right before our very eyes.

Will be watching to see if he can beat him out for the job. If not, woof.

You are right, he will know right away whether he has pro potential. Alabama has the best high school point guard coming in. I don’t know if he will be able to shoot 40% from three. I am sure that Nate oats and the program probably got him an NIL deal to commit that quick. I hope he beats this guy out.

I could see Bama playing them both together with Sears as off-guard...

Why not be the shooting guard there. Doesn’t need to beat out that guy.

Don't you think this is part of the new normal in college basketball? Individualism. Everyone in it for themselves, from coaches on down through players. I'd think most of Ohio's upper niche recruits from now on are going to think the same way. Time for us fans to adjust.

If we are going to have sour grapes every time a kid transfers up from
Ohio, we'd better keep a wheelbarrow full of grapes in the back yard from now on.

I hope he does well at Alabama. SEC and close to his home so his family can easily get to games.

Now we just need to hit the portal and do the same thing Alabama did to us.

Agreed. Generally, it's good for our basketball program when good players and good coaches play here, even if they don't stay forever. It's much better for Ohio Basketball if Sears goes to Alabama and is great then if he can't hang. Why anybody is rooting for an outcome where the disparity between a first team all MAC guard and the SEC is so big that he can't see the court is beyond me.

We want recruits to feel like the line between us and the SEC is thin.

And the adjustment might very well be, subscribe to ESPN+ and watch from home if there is nothing better on.

Also, although I think some kids might be discouraged from attending games next year if BVP also decides to leave, I'm so up for the challenge to lead the O-Zone next year.

To paraphrase one of the MASH medics (was it Hawkeye? Trapper John?): "There's not a word in the English language to describe my indifference to how things go for Mark Sears at Alabama."

There are tons of players from the SEC in the portal.

One just transferred from Ole Miss to Southern Miss...mids have have a chance at this. And that kid had offers out of high school also from Gonzaga, Memphis, Vandy (if you were wondering about his grades), Miss. St., Maryland, etc.

So the SEC poached one of our guys? Take some of theirs. Oquendo from Georgia is pretty good. Juwan Gary from Bama is in the portal and that guy also had offers from UConn, Maryland, NC State, VaTech, etc. Keon Ambrose-Hylton from Bama in the portal was offered out of h.s. by Arkansas, Dayton, NC State, Florida, Illinois, Vandy (if you are worried about grades, don't). The portal can give as well as take away. You can bet mids like MTSU, UAB, Chattanooga and WKU will be offering those guys. Go head to head and beat them out.

A key to student interest and attendance from now on is to recognize that popular players will leave the program. It's important to win early in the season to get students thinking that it's a product worth getting interested in. Then the social media people in the athletic dept need to promote following of other/new players.

+10000. I've shouted out the new guys as well on O-Zone social media and all of them now follow the O-Zone account. They love it and are super excited about the student involvement here. Last thing I want to do is have a disappointing product.

That's all great, Jeff and Chase. But getting invested in a 4- or 5-year player v. a 1- or 2-year player is not the same. That began to happen in pro leagues about 30 or 40 years ago and has now entered college football and basketball.

As an example, my 15-year-old son has been a Reds fan for the last 10 years, a difficult relationship. He hears me talking all the time about the Big Red Machine, a team I grew up with. That team, with some exceptions, was made up of homegrown players who were part of the Reds for years. Bench and Concepcion each played nearly 20 years, all with the Reds. My son recognizes the differences and tells me how lucky I was to grow up in that era v. the current era.

I understand these changes, so no need for an education, BLSS. Doesn't mean I have to like it.

And you can add Jacksonville State and Georgia State to that... once those regional mid-majors get a taste of the big dance, they will want to keep it up.

You have a good point. Good game last night by the way for the Reds!

Who knew OHIO would be dealing with a Kentucky problem? Our good players may now be One-And-Done players.
