I liked the state outline also, but this new one looks good to me.

I think it looks fantastic.  I like the state outline as well, but if you looked closely, the state was all messed up anyway.  I think the MAC logos are a league mandated thing, seems like I've seen them on other courts.  It'd be nice to maybe have the Convo logos on the hash marks on both sides of the court, but that might get too busy with the gigantic logo.  I love the darker green too.

Personally, I liked the state outline alot. As someone who cannot stand the big nuts, and gets sick of hearing "oh so you are a buckeye" when I tell people I go to Ohio, I wish we would have kept it. I don't know why but I just liked that we had the state of Ohio on our court. Showing that WE are the real O-H-I-O and they are not.

Well said 32, I too liked the message we were sending with the state outline. There is a part of me that wishes it was still there. However, the new look is great. Simply add some Convo logos and and let's get ready for some OHIO hoops!!

If the new logo means TFree's 3-ball pctge is at 49.4 whereas it woulda been 51.7 without any change, then I am going to be NOT HAPPY.

NOT HAPPY is a registered, legally protected, often asserted trademark of certain Attackers.

Ah, the State outline...gone, I believe, like the State outline on the football helmets in the late 60's and early 70's!  It is a message but the Attack Cat with the OHIO logo probably is more effective in showing OUr brand.

The logo is too big. I think it actually takes away from the game when it's that big. Another post said it best: too needy. Look at the Walter Lucket SI cover and see how big that Bobcat was. That's all you need.

I agree that it might be too big, we'll have to wait and see it how it plays. Looks like I'm in the minority though in thinking that the state outline made it look like a 1970s community college gymnasium. good riddance.

Any one got any paint thinner?  I need to make an update.  Just kidding, it will stay as is - the best beer pong table ever.  FYI this is accurate for the 08-09 year, before the MAC logos were relocated and replaced the "The convo" logos.

We have something exactly like that in our house. My dad bought up some of the old Convo floor when they replaced it not all that long ago and painted up a replica of the court on the Convo wood. It's hanging on our wall in our basement.

I'd set my bowl of mashed potatoes where Jaivon Harris knocked down that long three from the wing.

On top of that, the football field is screaming for some fresh color. Looking badly worn and faded as of last year. Is it almost time to replace the field turf? What's the lifespan of the modern plastic rug?

Field Turf has an 8 year manufacturer's waranty.
When we design a synthetic grass field for high school football  (including practice) we figure a 10 -12 year "usuable" life, depending on weather and how well the field is maintained.
I agree the field looks worn, which is odd.Normally green turf holds color real well.

FYI, even though its not that old,Peden's turf  is outdated by at least 2 generations.The current top of the line Field Turf is unreal.

Yes, we are Ohio. That is why having the state of Ohio outline at midcourt was a perfect idea. It was an excellent marketing statement.

My line of thinking here is that most people outside of the Ohio family would see OHIO and the state outline and automatically think Ohio State.  With the way it is now there's no doubt.  We are Ohio, with the attack cat front and center.  It also cleans things up a bit.  I didn't mind the state outline, but the design looks cleaner without it.

St. John Arena in Columbus had an outline of the state of Ohio. I always thought it looked like we were copying the Nutheads having the state on the Convo floor. But I'm not sure who had the state outline first, to be honest.

I'll miss the state outline. In my O Zone years I would walk out after the last game and kiss the approx location of Athens. Mmmmmm... sneaker rubber!

I would dare to say that large center court logos are all the rage these days.
(check out this floor design blog for pics: http://bbcourts.blogspot.com/2009/02/huge-center-court-lo...)

Honestly, I think it pops pretty nice visually. I've been resistant to some of the "new school" changes the past few years (uniforms, play style, promotions, ect) but after the inital shock I've enjoyed the fresher experience. (Speaking of fresher experiences- I hope to start a thread about how Athletics can make the game a more interesting experience for TODAY'S student because I think that is the next important step for this program; getting more of the student body to games.)

Any updates on the baselines or sidelines?

BGW:  I'm all for working on stuff to market games to the students...but I think in the end, the ath dept is best served by trying to appeal to several different demographics...no one group is going to get everything they want.

Ultimately, if students or any other group don't like basketball, it's a struggle to get them into the Convo and/or retain their attendance if they try us once.  No amount of non-basketball entertainment is going to counter that.

I think as Ohio wins and word gets out that we're a good program with exciting players, that will take care of a lot of promotions.  For those of us who are basketball junkies, it's a no brainer to be in the Convo and at road games every time the ball goes up.  For those who are ambivalent about hoops, not so.

Should just put  WE ARE OHIO -  NOT OHIO STATE on the court.  That would clear things up.

As for campus, regional, national recognition and fan interest, we probably should stop caring about what's painted on the court and concentrate more on making a habit of blowing out #3 seeds in the NCAA tournament.

Cool video.

The decision to make the logo that big might have been influenced by cost.  The video shows them painting directly over the old logo and if you notice, the new one was just the right size to cover up the old logo, and still have it centered.

My bet is it was A LOT cheaper than completely refinishing the entire floor, which would probably have been needed to remove the old logo and replace it with a new one the same size or even slightly larger.
