the LOVE smells something cookin' via the twitterverse.......nothing 100% substantive, but definitely something up...

If he's out, that's a big hit to the backcourt this year. Actually, has a team ever seen a backcourt become completely dismantled like this?

PG = Cooper (No backup ballhandler)
SG = Tommy, Nick  Kellogg, and maybe Rico Johnson

Gone = Bassett, Coleman, and Kinney
For practice = Offutt (who knows)

At least the frontcourt is ok. Just unbelievable.

What?

I'm sure All=Ohio point guard Nic Kellogg loves to hear this.

He plays point and shooting guard Love.

Some of your darts hit the target.....but sometimes you're so full of $*&% that you're eyes are brown

Doc, whoever runs the recruiting board of this site must have $&*% in their eyes as well b/c they don't have Nick listed as a Point Guard OR Ball Handler...he is listed as an off guard.

You stand corrected.

Easy gentlemen.  No need for insults.  Kellogg the young is also characterized as a 3 star shooting guard by Rivals.  But he also played point for 3 out of the four years in high school.  Nick when interviewed in April says he prefers the point, but is flexible:  "NK: I’ve been playing point guard all through high school expect for my freshman year. I’m comfortabe with the position and I perfer the one, but I can also play the two. Maybe I could play some at both like I did this past year with Adam Griffin (the son of two-time Heisman Trophy winner Archie Griffin) or I could play a combo guard. I can bring it up or play off the ball."    http://www.collegesportsfeed.com/question-and-answer-with-future-bobcat-nick-kellogg/  Nick is a clearly able and talented at the point.  He can be a great option for resting D.J.

But let's not get ahead of ourselves.  It does appear from Tweets that Mr. Coleman is not in Athens or participating in the two a days.  Maybe others know the whole story, and hopefully it is only that he just failed to get his act together to get to Athens in time for the scheduled practices -- not a wise choice but hopefully nothing academically or legally improper occurred.  The other guys appeared to be expecting him.  Just speculating, but my guess is that he called the coach and told him he would not make it on time and had  no good excuse.  Coach says if cannot make it on time do not bother showing up and no Bahamas trip for you.  But what do I know?  But speculating on a loss for the season is way too premature.  Frankly, I am tired of all the drama.  If worse comes to worst we will survive.  We will have a lot of talent out there, either way.

I went to practice tonight and come to think of it--I do NOT recall seeing Coleman.  I spent most of the night trying to figure out who everyone was (obviously no programs for practice and actually only 10 people in the crowd).  Figured out who Ricardo was, saw Ethan, saw Nick & Alex and TJ.  Saw a couple other guys on the sidelines, but didn't know who they were.  Appeared to be injured guys.  But you're correct, no Steven from what I recall and I know who he is and would've picked him out.

Don't have time to give an update, but I'm glad I went.

No Love you stand corrected....a direct quote from NK:

I’ve been playing point guard all through high school except for my freshman year.

Doc, Love is simply going off the chart on the recuriting board, not reading his life story. I swear some of you read things and let your disdain of the poster hinder your ability to comprehend. Do you realize you are arguing over how to say Tomato?

I have zero disdain for Love....actually hear he's a nice guy.....but it's not like comparing how you say tomato when you say someone can't or may not do something that he probably can or will.....it's more like saying tomato sounds like rhubarb.

Seems to me this this thread is drifting from the stated topic on whether a guy who could be a key for us is still with the program or not.

That often happens and is what many long time posters find to be the beauty of this site.

Not taking sides or arguing with anyone, but Coleman is listed on the recruiting board as a shooting gaurd. Regardless, I do believe either Ricardo or Nick will be perfectly capable of spelling DJ for a few minutes each game.

Finally can post the real reason behind Coleman leaving the program. Legal trouble? Nope. Academic trouble? Nope. Doesn't feel like being on the team anymore so that he can pursue a career with a much greater chance of success...the music business. I'm sure he'll be highly successful with his diverse musical stylings.

Ohio Hoops update...Soph. guard Steven Coleman has left the program. Reason? To pursue hip-hop career apparently

EDIT: More updates from Arkley

Re: Coleman. His debut mixtape dropped on the internet on Aug. 8. Training camp, in Athens, started Aug. 16. He simply never showed up.

Ohio hoops coach John Groce confirmed Coleman is gone from the program this afternoon.

And the best of the best...

Something always rubbed me the wrong way about Steven. I don't know what it was, but I always had a feeling that Steven might leave early. Maybe it was a matter of time before he got in trouble for more of the same...one of his songs talks about how he "always keeps one rolled up."

From what I've been able to gather about practice reports, Rico and Nick were going to play no matter what. I think we start DJ, Tommy, and Rico. Nick can be a Bassett-type (not saying he will produce Bassett numbers) where he can either play the point or two guard. Basically I think we have three of DJ, Tommy, Nick, and Rico on the floor at all times. I don't know enough about TJ to guess if he can contribute this year.

I swear I checked the date 4 times to see if it was April Fools... Nope middle of August. I can't even come up with the words to react to this. Unreal.

We might of lost Stevie "Fresh",  But WOTS  says,  we are getting back Asown Sayles to take Colemans place,  Steven Coleman leaving is no big surprise to me, he would of probably been lucky to make it through the season anyway, trouble seems to find this kid, So good luck to Stevie Fresh and welcome home Asown Sayles.

All I can say is that when he played, he was one of the smoothest, efficient players I've ever seen on a basketball court. He glowed with talent, amazing he didn't get picked up by a bigger school I think.

But besides that, good luck in the music business I hope you find what you're looking for.

Ahhhhhh......

Doc, that is what Love was talking about and you go calling him out.  The guy made a reference to his source and still called him on it.  Oh well, can't be too hard on you since we went to school together ;)

And the circle is complete...no idea the circumstances surrounding Asown's return...but that is called rewarding your student-athletes. Should never have gotten to this point. Asown brings game experience back for his 5th. I love how this is shaking out.

Now I'm confused....of course we went to school together.....this is an Ohio forum isn't it or have I entered some Hot Tub Time Machine.....or maybe it was Portsmouth Clay?  Nah.  OUP?......maybe.
