The basketball program has taken on a Bermuda Triangle feel. Once you enter you have no idea what your going to find there. Last year with the suspensions and Horne's defection now Coleman and Kellogg. The AB one and done did not suprise me one bit as I was more shocked he actually stayed and stayed eligible for the year.  What once looked as a strength has turned into a weakness before the first official ball bounced. Hope those freshman recruits are quick learners. This turn of events has left my head spinning. Wow!!

If we would have beaten Tennessee, AB was ineligible for the next round, as grades were posted and the new quarter was starting.

That's not true, due to the way grades can be appealed and everything else, AB would have been able to play that next weekend. Not sure about what would have happened if we made the Final Four though.

You can never have too many big men. Really counting on his defense and rebounding. Good luck Alex, hope things work out.

Especially a 6'8", 240lb big man in the MAC.

My reading:  There are two types of "personal reasons" that could be responsible for this mind numbing decision:

1. A legitimate personal, family or school-related matter.  Personally, I'm wondering if he has grade problems and needs to concentrate on his studies.  The way he said he wouldn't be playing for Ohio this year seemed to imply he might be at some time in the future.

2. Some totally bogus reason that would make us all want to puke if we knew what it was.  In such a case what does every scoundrel do?  Cover the problem with that favorite excuse of politicians, sports figures or entertainers gone bad, "I'm resigning, quitting, going home, taking a leave, separating, etc.  for (usually unspecified) personal or family reasons."

I have no idea whether we are dealing with a type 1 problem or a type 2 problem.  I certainly hope it's former and not the latter.  Nonetheless, this is a big blow to our program and does leave one wondering what shoe is going to drop next.

It looks bad to see a player leave like this but in A. Kellogg's case he never played a game in a Bobcat uniform. We've lost Bassett, Coleman, Horne, Kinney, and Kellogg over the last year if I'm correct? Only Bassett was part of the MAC and NCAA run. Bassett as we know had a tendency to take nights off during regular season play and often the cats looked better without him. Ohio still has the franchise player (DJ Cooper). The trifecta of Cooper-Freeman-Washington is going to be tough to stop in a down year for the MAC. We aren't going to have an NCAA at-large resume type of team but a smooth 13-3 in the MAC with a high seed should happen. The odds then would be almost 50% for Ohio to win the MAC tournament and make it back to the dance. Ohio is in good shape, the defections will allow Groce to sign a larger freshman class for next year and finally balance out the experience on the roster. I would like to see us sign some big athletic guards and shift them over to the 3 for matchup problems. Interestingly, both Taylor and N.Kellogg (soon to be known on the board as just Kellogg) both had offers from Miami so it shows we are doing something right by beating out Oxford's old man.

One hand: I talked to a number of PC fans in March and not a single one had anything good to say about AK as a player.

The other hand: I have full confidence in this staff when it comes to developing big men.

I suppose we'll never know.

Regarding these "fans of PC", who cares what they say? You must conclude that he was a little over his head in the Big East. Most of the schools that were recruiting him were MAC schools plus Butler. Maybe it's as simple as he's tired of basketball and hearing about what a great player his old man was and knows he can't live up to it.
