It's a shame Devaughn doesn't get to play against Delaware, he's put on some great performances against them the past two seasons.

Without Washington for this game makes this game a tougher game. CAA teams are always tough. We have lost to Delaware before, so this isn't a n easy with.  Any team from CAA is a tough matchup. This will be like playing a MAC team.  Will be a close one and a good early test of where are young team is. Our overall youth may be a concern. We are gonna have to play a lot of freshman and sophmores. More experienced teams will have a bit of advantage on us early.  So far Ohio hasn't looked that great in the two exhibition games.  Not sure if we are ready for a CAA team yet.  They will be much better opponnet than the Ohio Valley cupcake we started with last year.

The Blue Hens were picked 9th in the CAA. If you consider that the CAA and the MAC are roughly similar then I would hope the Bobcats can trounce Delaware. If we couldn't beat the 9th team in the MAC easily--even without Devaughn--I'd be worried that this won't be such a successful year.

Delaware returns their entire team from an injury plagued season...whether this means more wins is anyones guess.

I had this game penciled in as a double digit loss for the hens when the schedule came out....but losing Basset, Coleman and with Washington suspended...the Hens may be able to steal a win.

Starting lineup

5'10 Carter  pg  sr   18ppg/5apg
6'2 Saddler  sg   fr(will be impact player)
6'6 Hawkins  sf   so. (suprise start over 1000 pt scorer Dawson)
6'8 Hagins    pf   so.   5ppg/5rpg/30blocks
6'8 McCullar  c    so.  5ppg/3.5rpg

Bench(all with significant experience)
6'4 Dawson   sg  (see above)  12ppg/6rpg
6'7 McNeil      sf    6ppg/6rpg
6'6 Brinkley   pf     5ppg/3rpg
6'5 Boney     sf     5.7ppg

Wish I could be there as I would like to see the Carter/DJ matchup....good luck to you guys the rest of the year.

10pts sounds about right. Sagarin's odds are not up yet, but I would suspect them to be about the same.
Good to see that the game is available on line for free.

GO BOBCATS

I just noticed that Kent is @ Bryant today. I live 10 minutes away...do I go and if so do I wear my OHIO garb?

If you go, you should wear nothing but your Ohio gear.  Ask Timmy how life on the road is.

Ugly first half so far with a LOT of fouls. OUr bigs are looking pretty solid so far, the guard play looks like it needs some work however.

That game was actually in Cleveland (tournament at the CSU Convocation Center), so if you live 10 minutes from Bryant, I hope you decided against it .

How about that second half, though?

First half was close like I had feared as we needed time to adjust with the new players, but the second half was the superior talent of Ohio hit Delaware and they had no answer for Cooper, Keely and Baltic.  Better shot selection in early second half was they key.  We took it to Delaware inside where Keely and Baltic dominated.

Not a bad first game especially playing without Washington.  Groce gave lot a minutes to Tungi and the freshmen in this game.  Kellogg, Johnson and Hall made some key contributions. Playing the freshmen early might really pay off come MAC play as we will have a stronger bench behind a strong starting lineup.  Baltic and Keely looked great today. That is a big takeaway from today is the improvement in those two players.  They both stepped up and delivered without Washington.  Really got like are chances when you add Washington to the mix. Also liked Groce use of Kellogg and Johnson at the 2 guard.  Getting them both playing time will really improve us later in the year.  Free throws the one thing we have to really work on.  We left points on the table, otherwise we would have  had 100 on the Hens.

Attendance?  We'll win a lot of games in which we have only 10 turnovers, steal it 9 times and outrebound 'em by 13..  Only 4-15 on three-balls and 14-26 from the line.

The good: the improved play from Keely and Ivo, who showed a nice fadeaway jumper as well as an up-and-under, left-handed finger roll; the all-around play of Cooper, easily the best player on the floor despite being one of the smallest, if not smallest. Can't wait to see Cooper leading the fast break with Washington and Baltic filling the lanes, waiting for the alley-oop; and after hearing TOS and Groce tease us every October about a more running style only to watch the team slow it down once the rotation was pared down, it finally looks to me like this year's team might actually have the numbers and athletes to play more of a fullcourt, up-and-down game.

The bad: I missed the second basket of the second half, an Ivo bucket off a feed from Coop (I believe) because the kids around me were scrambling for one of the coupons drifting from the catwalk. After all the commotion, my wife shows me a Rocky Boots coupon with an expiration date of June, 2010; the continued request from PA announcer for fans to remain standing until opponent's first basket (I noticed Jeff and Steve participating obediently).

The ugly: the entire staff at The Pub wearing an o$u shirts.

My brief observations from the opener:
  • SOPHOMORES!  Man did those 3 look good today.  Scary to say DJ looked even better than last year.  Silky smooth and amazing court vision...What more can you say?  Ivo looked fantastic, attacking the basket with authority and looked very quick.  Based on today, he could very quickly become a HUGE part of this team.  He and Reggie both played with a lot of swagger today and finished strong.
  • Although Reggie & Ivo looked great, Devaughn is a key part of the team that was missed.  The development of Reggie & Ivo can only help Devo.
  • Things I am not worried about at all - Tommy Freeman's 3 pointers and the team's free throw shooting.
  • Rebounding was great and the key to our victory, but against a pretty weak front court.  It will be interesting to see how the big men stack up against Oakland.
  • I was happy to get a chance to see a lot of the freshmen.  They all looked talented but raw.  I think this will turn out to be a great class, but still too early to assess much on them.  I do think a few of them need to not shoot so quickly and launch it when its a good look.
  • The Refs were WAYYY too whistle happy.  It got real annoying.
  • Autograph session after the game was great.  The guys were all very nice to my 2 young sons.  Its a shame DJ & Reggie wernt around (I assume due to radio interviews).
  • About 4,000 sounds about right.  A decent crowd for a weak opponent early...But I still dont understand why there wasn't more on the heals of the March run.  A great team and a beautiful day to start the year and we can't even fill up the Ozone?
  • Why didn't they drop the 2010 MAC Champs and NCAA Tournament banners?  When do they plan to do that?
  • Excited for the Oakland game!

And who's going to tell AP that it was Armon Bassett, not Bennett?
