At this point in the season is appears that Coach has admitted making a mistake in the recruiting of Jacobs. Come conference time he will get less time than he already has received, which is none. I doubt if he will even red-shirt him. It will be interesting to see if he stays with him for another year or helps him decide to transfer.
We need to get 2 bigs for next year and I'm not talking about the 6-6 to 6-8 kind. We need 2  6-10 to 7-0 guys. The 5 position is our weakest at this point and with Washington graduating it will be weaker next year if we don't do something about it now.
We seem to be pretty solid at the point right now but our #5 position is weak, very weak, HELP.

I think you're jumping the gun. There have been plenty of successful NCAA D1 basketball players (let alone Ohio players) who didn't play much their first year (or even first two years).

I personally thought Groce and Dustin did a really good job improving KVK in the 2 years they had him. I feel pretty good that if Ethan works hard and listens to the staff, he'll come along in a similar fashion. Not all that worried about him.

Dear Administrators:

Can someone please revoke OCF's posting privileges for a few months?  My 8 year old has a better handle on what is going on in the Convo.  I kick myself every time I open one of these threads because the next 30 seconds of my life is about to be a miserable fail.  I know there is a train wreck inside and cannot just go around.  I need Ryan to set up a block to protect me from myself.

Nothing much has changed with you I see -- you were a jerk last year and an ignorant one to boot -- and you're still an ignorant jerk now -- may God bless and have mercy on your son and all of your children if you do have more than one.

Catfan clearly said he had not followed the team for quite some time and he came to a very fine website to get re-acquainted and educated about a team and program he obviously loves.  For all we know he might have been gone defending our country so ignorant jerks like you can run your mouth without having been provoked about revoking his posting privileges. I would imagine this is your attempt at humor but it was an embarrassingly poor attempt.

If reading his or anyone's thread causes you such displeasure then most brains would simply stop coming to website. (we can always hope)

Gosh, how stupid would you be had you NOT gone to college?

Catfan I apologize for lowering the level of decorum in regard to your thread but I felt it needed to be said.

I would like to know how I am the ignorant one.  I attend every game and know who is eligible to play and who is not.  I would attest that is the exact opposite of ignorant.

OCF was not defending our country.  He was on a boat posting to this site nonstop for two weeks, with the execption of a 5K walk/race that he got screwed out of the title.

I do enjoy this website and the many friends I have made as a result of it.  I read most threads to see if there is anything interesting.  Thanks for calling me stupid.  You have a mastery of the English language.

BTW, if you are going back to last year, what exactly is the record you hold for Wilson Hall?  I would love to see who beat the ones I was a part of in 1992-1993.

I may not be right, but I think he can be redshirted this year , (Jacobs)   It may go on only playing a certain % of minutes of  the scheduled games.  Heard that sonewhere.  Hence why he is only been playing a few minutes when he gets in.

This is a common misconception. Once a player plays for any amount of time in any game he can no longer redshirt that season.

(Note: It's still possible to get a medical hardship waiver, often called an "injury redshirt" if a player suffers a serious injury and plays somewhere around less than 30% of games. I think that's what you're thinking of.)

I think we may be a little spoiled with how well DJ did his freshman year

Looking back in the archives on Ohibobcats.com it looks as if a succession of freshmen have not only played but started at Ohio. Williams, Tillman, Freeman.and to some extent Coleman have been strong from the first day.DJ certailnly set the bar a bit higher but you guys have had mighty good freshmen for a log time.

I don't disagree, that Ohio has had freshman play, and start, and do well. But what I was getting at is a coach would rather be playing a junior/senior Freeman/WIlliams/Tillman/Troutman/Coleman than those guys as first year players. Then have them gain more and more minutes as they learn skills/system/plays/etc. Have them learn from the upperclassmen, etc.

Because of the high attrition rate at Ohio (for the past 15 years or so), coaches have been leaning on underclassmen more than I think they'd like to. So until Ohio can keep more kids in the program 4 years, it's not even an option.

I really thought that that was showing not real good sportsmanship as well as missing an opportunity for Jacobs, Offutt and Smith to develop.

Your 6 weeks of consecutive posting must be a record.  No wait, 695 has been here since '04.

Definitely jumping the gun.  I think Groce new going in that Jacobs wasn't going to play much this year because of his size; he's about 30 pounds lighter than KVK was his senior year and they'll need a year or more to bulk him up.  He was getting pushed around pretty good by NSU's bigs last night.

I never heard the coach admit anything of the sort. It doesn't appear to me that recruiting Jacobs was a mistake. He is a freshman, give the coach a chance to work with him. He's got the height you say we need. The coach will get him where he needs to be. Washington is a great player but nothing that Jacobs can't replace.

I had not heard Coach Groce say that in any of the post or pre game shows nor read it in the press. With regard to Washington Ethan brings a different set of skills to the table. No more than KVK and Washington are similar nor are Jacobs and Wasington. On the other side of the equation, not to be crass or unfeeling but Ethan is an honor roll student and will not lose any weeks to disciplinary actions. Regardless of where he is and where he goes, he should be someone the fans can look at with great pride much in the same vein as Van Kempen.

Getting real tiresome to read posts stating that other posters should be banned due to their lack of content or allegedly unacceptable points of view.

Of course, those who put up those thoughts are masters of exactly what they declaim against.

I repeat a basic for those of you in this boat:  It's okay to be an arse, so long as you have a sense of humor about it and acknowledge it.  Otherwise, not.

No, we don't need to discuss further whether it's a boat or a ship or other type of vessel.
